Orion froze on the spot, watching the huge beast down on all its four limbs right in front of him. It looked shorter than the others; after lying down, it was barely half his height, but its eyes were staring straight at him, making all the hairs on his body stand on end.
'What on Earth is that? Orion, move, we need to get out of here,' he thought to himself, then looked behind him to see the four wolves had surrounded him and were staring at him with deep amber eyes. The fifth one was already far gone, and it seemed it would take a while for it to be back on its feet. "Fighting them is pointless, they have all the advantage. I just need an opening, then I'm leaving this godforsaken place," Orion muttered, then clenched his muscles while rushing towards the wolf on his right. The thought of fighting the crouching wolf didn't occur to him. There was something about those eyes that remained glued to him, giving him chills all over his body. It gave him an oppressive feeling, like a predator watching its prey play around right in its trap. "I'll just make for it here at full speed; I don't believe it can catch up." He threw his fist directly at the wolf, but the wolf simply dodged to the side and swiped at him, while the others also rushed over and made a new circle round him. 'They're fast! I can barely see them moving,' he thought, then looked at the amber eyes in the distance, which remained in the same position, unmoving and unbothered. Orion could swear he felt mockery and scorn from those eyes, like it was daring him to run. "Fine then, if I can't outrun them, I'll wreck my way out," he said, then clenched his fists while raising them out. At the same time, the wolves pounced at him all together. 'I can't take on all of them together. I'll just take them down one after the other; a wound won't kill me anyway,' he thought, then ignored all the others and threw a punch at the huge wolf pouncing at him. The wolf was thrown far away into the dark forest, but the other wolves pounced on him, ripping his clothes and tearing huge gashes on his body. If his body weren't stronger than normal, he would've been ripped apart in an instant. He looked at the three wolves now surrounding him and didn't wait for them to attack again before clenching his fists and throwing another full-powered punch at the wolf, which was totally off mark and missed. 'Fuck.' He had no choice but to bear the retaliation of the wolves as they pounced on him again, ripping his flesh. "Okay, that's enough!" Orion screamed out while gritting his teeth. "You asked for this, we'll die here together then," with a mad look on his face, then raised his right arm and focused on the blue cell, then transformed. Three men were walking across the forest, without any sign of fear despite the dark and silent forest all around them. "I felt a tier-2 beast around here just now, but it just vanished from my perception," Aeric said. "Someone must've killed it then, let's go check," Damion said, while Vinscent followed behind as silent as ever without saying a word. "Five tier-1 and one tier-2 just vanished without a trace. A normal mutant can't achieve this, but I felt nothing from the human there; it was more like he was just a normal human." "Wait till we get there first before jumping to conclusions," Damion replied, then was about to sprint over when Aeric stopped him. "There's no need to rush, he's long gone and the beasts are also dead." Getting to the site, the three found five dead wolves, all of them with scorch wounds on their bodies and a few twisted body parts. "Looks like they encountered a tough opponent," Aeric said while watching in amusement. "No, it's more than that. I can see electricity marks all over, but I can't see traces of them struggling, meaning they were defeated without resisting," Damion said after checking the corpses and looked at Aeric. "They were totally overpowered, and that wolf," Damion said, then pointed at the alpha that had been reduced to a grotesque figure and couldn't be recognized again. It was missing its right hind leg and left foreleg, with its skin totally charred to black and huge gashes on its body. "I don't think anyone able to do this was recorded in Cyberis. Overpowering five tier-1 mutant wolves and a tier-2 to this point is something only those from the first surge can do. There's none in Cyberis, if I can recall," Aeric said while looking at the site for any sort of information, then he pulled out a satellite phone and dialed a number. After a while, he heard a voice across the phone. "Aeric, it's been long, how was your findings in the Silvermist Mountains??" "The Silvermist Mountains is a whole different matter, I'll explain everything when I'm back. I found trails of a first-grade mutant in Cyberis, so I'll be staying here for a while." "A first grade?" a surprised voice came from the other side of the call. "I'm as surprised also, I'll just deal with this real quick, then we'll be back." "You've been out for long already, Aeric, you and Vincent." "Just a few days, I'll be back soon," Aeric said, then cut the line. Aeric looked at Cyberis City, brimming with life in the distance, and said, "Let's go, Damion take care of this mess." Damion raised a hand and pointed it towards one of the corpses, which exploded with a huge bang, lighting up the dark forest. Listening to the consecutive bangs, Aeric muttered, "A new first-grade mutant after so long, this is interesting."Latest Chapter
Ambush?
"Josh, behind you!" The sudden alarm made his body tense, adrenaline pulsing through his veins as he performed a swift barrel roll, dodging over to the trees to take cover.~~squeak~~ ~~squeak~~A little rabbit poked it's head out of the dense covers, it's eyes fixated on the soldiers."A rabbit." His tensed body relaxed, the rabbit was barely a feet long it couldn't pose any sort of harm towards the team."Don't move out alone, this forest gives off creepy vibes, any small mistake and we'll be mowed by a truck sized bear.""S-013 vision!""All clear, you can proceed." "Understood, move out." ---"What do you mean all the beasts suddenly vanished?" Alaster asked with a frown on his face."A short while ago the teams reported the same occurrence to the command center 'beasts suddenly vanishing from sight'" "I instructed the team to increase awareness and watch out for potential ambushes but nothing was found, all the beasts in the outer zone vanished." The deputy general said wit
Taking Down The Outer Zone 1
12:00pm Over a thousand soldiers stood upright before the forward base, each of them divided into different units. The light soldiers with assault rifles, sidearms, grenades and other close combat weapons attached, assigned as the Frontline of the charge. The snipers were fewer in numbers but each of them were armed with snipers to take down enemies from hundreds of meters away along with reconnaissance drones for scouting. The third units were called the suppressors, armed with heavy machine guns, their main duty was to be on standby and open fire when ordered to, a combined assault from this unit would wreck down a portion of the mountain itself. The last unit were the heavy long distance support troops, armed with rocket launchers and rocket propelled grenades {RPGs}Alaster stood on a platform hurriedly made by the soldiers, he nodded with a look of satisfaction on his face."Do you all remember my order?!" "Take down the Silvermist mountains within the next 72 hours!!" The sold
The Advance Order
"They don't act like mindless beasts anymore, they have a sense of purpose behind their actions, it's more like they're an entirely new specie, new life forms birthed into existence." "We'll figure everything out as we advance, by tomorrow we'll move." Damion said with a smirk on his face."I am quite curious about what you mentioned also, I'm in." "I never said you had a choice." Aeric had a wide grin on his face as he turned to face Vincent who still remained silent."You're coming with me also."---Two days laterAeric walked across the small camp at the foot of the mountain, watching the soldiers march round the camp filled with endless vigor. The efficiency of the soldiers was really frightening, they managed to set up a suitable forward base within a single day, even cleared out all the tier 1 beasts roaming on the periphery of the mountain."The army lives up to it's name I'll admit, if only the battle wasn't in this dense forest we would win easily." Damion said beside Aeri
The Source
In a village located at the foot of the mountains near Cyberis, Damion stood with arms crossed watching the army organize themselves, creating a temporary base and supply center for the fleet to march into the mountains by the next day.Because of the dense forests even tanks couldn't be used, they had to rely on foot troops armed with guns, rocket launchers and bombs to carry out the siege."If the terrain was a bit more favourable this battle wouldn't be a source of concern, but they have all the advantage in this situation." Damion thought while watching the troops passing by.Vincent stood silently nearby without a word, he only watched the soldiers passing by with an expressionless look on his face.'How do they even expect this operation to work out? Bullets don't work against even tier 1 beasts anymore, only a few would actually be affected by bullets, this doesn't look optimistic to me no matter how much I try to reason with it, it's like throwing away the lives of the soldier
Robert's Despair
"The offensive forces are split into four fleets based on the four closest cities to the mountains, Cyberis in the eastern side, Arizona to the North, Raylen to the West and Godora to the South. After we take control of the outer zone we will set up a temporary camp and advance towards the inner zone where the four forces will link up and take down the core zone." "The president wants the war to end within a week or two at most, this will be a blitz attack and we'll take down the Silvermist mountains as soon as possible." Eric nodded his head with a smile "I trust with your competent capabilities the mission would be completed with a breeze, it can't be that bad it's just a bunch of beasts living up in the mountains right?" "If it were just a "bunch" of beasts we wouldn't be having this meeting, we won't have to organize a fleet to surround the forest on all sides and the government won't get involved in this whole mess, I'll prefer it if you all take this very serious." Eric imm
Relocation To Arizona
Orion gasped for air, taking in short deep breaths, the sudden Influx of information took him by surprise he couldn't react to it at once he almost passed out on the spot."What.. was that?" Even though he tried to peep into it's memories the sudden Influx was enough to drown him in an instant. He stood up with wobbly legs and trogged back to the town leaving behind the dead wolf who lay on the ground with blank eyes.----"Brother!""Brother!!"Orion opened his eyes with a reluctant gaze in his eyes staring at his younger sister who was crouching beside his bed."Kass, what's wrong? I'm still feeling sleepy don't disturb me." Orion said then pulled his blanket over his head without another word."Wake up! Mother's calling you downstairs, you've had enough sleep already." "Fine, I'll come over." "Mother wants to to come over, Now!" Kass said with a quick pull on his cloth."Okay I've heard, I'm up." "Better, I'll be waiting downstairs!" Kass said with her tongue stuck out in jest.
