613. The Flipside
Leaving their familiar world behind, Xander and Priscilla stepped under the archway and entered the smoky rift.The next steps that they took sent them flying across a space of nebulous nothingness, blurring everything around them.Red lightning crackled around them as the winds wailed in their faces.They fell through the interdimensional crack and were sucked into the parallel plane on the other side.After a hellish fall that seemed to have lasted several hours, Xander and Priscilla crashed into a field of red dandelions.Xander was the first to get up and reach for his sister.“Priscilla, are you alright? Xander and Priscilla followed the markings on the wall, and the golden crosses carved into the pillars guided them to the back door, which led to a narrow garden path flanked by shriveled hedges.The chapel stood on the other side, overgrown with dark red vines and cobwebs.As soon as Xander set foot upon the marble steps, his whole body shuddered, and he felt a powerful vibration run down his spine.Even Priscilla felt a tremor within as she sensed a strange energy coming from inside the chapel.Xander pushed the old wooden doors open and stepped inside, taking measured and cautious steps.The chapel had been abandoned almost 20 years ago, but there was still the scent of incense in the air, and the golden cross stood at the far end, untouched by the damage and decay around it.“This is it, sister. “Did you hear that?” Xander asked, his gaze fixated on the gilded door of the throne room up ahead.“I sure did,” Priscilla replied, her voice feeble and her nerves shaky. “But I thought everyone in Zarturia had been killed decades ago.
