Nothing Adds Up

I hope I’m wrong, Dane thought. But what if they were kidnapped?

The house was too still. Too staged. Nothing looked ransacked. Even the cracked door—it didn’t fit. Like someone had tried to make it look like no one had been here… but missed the details.

Did the kidnappers clean up after themselves?

He moved through the open door in the hallway, the one the wounded dog had been guarding. Another door stood at the end—closed, quiet. He stepped toward it and pushed it open.

A bedroom.

Everything was in place. The bed was made. A folded hoodie lay at the foot. No signs of a struggle.

Too perfect.

He backed out slowly and returned to the living room. Something still felt off.

He turned toward the kitchen, just a few steps away. Inside, it was clean—but not spotless. The air held the faint, stale scent of food long untouched.

He walked to the fridge and opened it. Inside, a pack of frozen chicken breasts and a few half-full bottles of drinks. He crouched and touched the freezer lining. Sti

Thirty minutes into the drive.Carlos noticed it first.Jane spotted it a second later.Motorcycles—twenty-five of them—weaving through the empty street, heading straight toward the convoy. No doubt about it—Richard was in that vehicle. The road ahead was narrowing. Both convoys had spotted each other.Carlos signaled. The buses halted first, lining the road like a barricade. At the same time, the bikes skidded to a stop. From the buses, ten men per vehicle spilled out—one hundred thugs total, armed and alert. The bikers dismounted, drawing their weapons. In the silence, the two sides stared each other down, guns aimed, fingers twitching. One wrong move—one flinch—and it would all go up in smoke. From behind the tinted window of the bulletproof Toyota, the door clicked open. The first thing to appear was a black leather shoe. Then the man hi

As the car rolled out, Butcher sat in the back seat of the Rolls-Royce, Carlos following close behind with his fleet of thugs. Everything was in motion.Suddenly, Butcher’s phone vibrated. He checked the screen—one of his spies. The one tailing Richard. He answered.“Sir,” the spy said, urgency in his voice, “something’s happening. Richard… he’s not at the mansion. He’s already on the move. It looks like he’s preparing to attack you.”“What?” Butcher said, eyes narrowing. “What are you talking about? Slow down. Speak clearly.”“Sorry, sir,” the spy said. “We thought we were going to catch him off guard. But now it looks like he’s trying to end this too. He’s headed toward the port. Toward the ship.”There was a pause.“You might run into each other on the road.”Butcher hung up.This isn’t good.Jane glanced at him through the rearview mirror. “What’s going on?”“Nothing,” Butcher said calmly. “Just keep driving.”He turned and looked out the back window, then raised his eyes to the s

  • Black Convoy

The following day, 8:00 a.m. sharp.Carlos arrived in a black Mercedes, the car gliding to a stop outside the dock. The driver stepped out, opened the door, and Carlos stepped into the early morning light.Behind him, a convoy of ten black buses rumbled in. One after another, they pulled up along the street. Crowds parted as the tension thickened in the air. Each bus door opened in sync, and from every one, ten armed men stepped out—Carlos’s thugs. Rough, battle-hardened, and ready. Guns in hand. Eyes sharp. Controlled chaos.Carlos didn’t speak. He simply adjusted his collar and walked toward the ship. He climbed aboard, boots hitting metal, and moved like a man on a mission.Once on deck, he went straight to Butcher’s office. He knocked once.“Come in,” Butcher called from inside.Carlos stepped in. The office was dim, quiet. Butcher sat with his back to him, facing the window, the ocean beyond it still and gray.“Have you come?” Butcher asked, without turning.“Is it all set?”Butc

  • Drive Me There

Butcher stood from his chair and walked out of his office. Every man in the hallway lowered their heads as he passed—out of fear, out of respect. No one spoke. No one dared to.He moved with purpose, heading straight to Jane’s room. When he reached her door, he knocked once.“Jane,” he said calmly, “I want to talk to you.”She opened the door quickly, surprised. “Sir… please, come in.”Butcher stepped inside.“Sit,” she said, gesturing toward the chair in front of her.He sat down slowly. “I came to speak with you,” he said.“I figured,” she replied, smiling gently. “I’m glad. It’s been a long time since we’ve had a normal conversation. We’ve both been so busy…”Butcher nodded. “You’re right. We haven’t talked much—just missions, orders, chaos. This is an opportunity.”She leaned forward slightly. “So… what is it?”He took a breath. “Tomorrow… I’m going after Richard.”Jane’s face went still. “For real?”“Yes. I’ve held back long enough. Two people attacking us—even separately—is too

  • This Time, I Finish It

Butcher sat alone in his office, arms folded, his suit crisp, his eyes hard with thought.Since Dane left, things had gone downhill. Richard had been relentless—attacking his headquarters, stealing cargo, burning down shipments… even going after his ship. What should I do? he thought. How do I stop this?It wasn’t just Richard. Leo had made his move too. His thugs were targeting Butcher’s men—isolating them, jumping them when they were alone.Leo’s pushing too. I can’t fight two enemies at once.Butcher clenched his jaw. I was hoping this could end peacefully… Richard was once my brother. We grew up together, even if we had different last names. We were separated when we were kids. And Leo… Leo is my adopted son.He looked down at his desk, then at the glass in his hand. He took a slow sip, his fingers tapping the wood as his thoughts spiraled.Who do I take out? Before he could finish that thought—Knock knock.“Yes?” Butcher called.“It’s me—Jane,” came the voice.“Come in.”Jane st

  • This Is… Amazing

“You broke the door,” Ella said. “That’s not the problem—at least you were trying to save us.” She stepped closer and added, “But… I think I’m just going to go to the bank and buy another house. That’s it.” Dane blinked. “Wait, what?” “That’s not really a problem for us,” she said casually. “I don’t have my phone, which means I don’t have access to most of my cash. But once I get it back, we’ll just buy a new place.” Dane stood there, stunned. So it’s true, he thought. They really are millionaires. Gina, still by the front door, turned to look at them. “What are you two waiting for? Come in.” Ella and Dane followed her into the house, the dog trotting happily behind them. “it’s so good to be back home,” Ella said as she stepped inside. Dane followed her in, breathing in the quiet calm of the house. He walked over to the living room and sank into a chair, finally letting his body relax. Ella disappeared down the hall to her room. “I’m going to take a quick bath,” she called
