The evening sun spilled warm gold across the palace gardens. Jay and Luther had spent the day in a quiet rhythm training, reading, and teasing but as night crept in, an unspoken tension settled like a soft, heavy blanket between them.

Jay stretched lazily on a chaise in his chambers, watching the shadows deepen. The library and training yard had been exhausting, but in the best way. His hair stuck to his forehead from exertion, and his heart still thudded from laughter, arguments, and those lingering touches from earlier.

A soft knock came at the door.

“Your Highness?” Luther’s voice drifted in, gentle, cautious. “May I… come in?”

Jay smiled faintly. “I was hoping you would.”

Luther entered, careful as ever, though his presence seemed to take up the entire room. He carried nothing but a small tray of tea and a soft, earnest expression. The silver in his eyes reflected the dim candlelight, and Jay felt the familiar pull in his chest-Omega warmth mixed with possessive devotion.

“You should rest,” Luther murmured, setting the tea beside the bed. “The day has been… taxing.”

“I know,” Jay said, stretching again. “I’m just… not ready to sleep yet.”

Luther’s gaze softened. “Then stay awake with me?”

The words were so simple, but the weight behind them made Jay’s heart flutter. He nodded, patting the space beside him on the chaise. Luther’s eyes widened for just a heartbeat before he approached, sitting carefully. Their knees brushed, then thighs, sending a spark through both of them.

“You’ve been avoiding… too much,” Luther whispered, voice low. “Not just today… but the past week. I… I want to be close to you, Jay.”

Jay’s fingers brushed Luther’s. “Close how?” he asked, teasing, though his pulse betrayed his curiosity.

Luther’s breath hitched. “Like… this,” he murmured, his hands hovering just above Jay’s waist. “I want to feel you, not just guard you. Not just teach or protect. I want…”

Jay leaned forward impulsively, letting his lips brush the corner of Luther’s jaw. The contact was feather-light but enough to make Luther shiver. “You mean… sleep?”

Luther swallowed. “If you want. Only if you want. But… I can’t stop wanting.”

Jay’s heart thrummed. The words were permission. Not command. Not a lecture. Pure, raw desire tempered by trust. He shifted closer, letting their shoulders brush, then their knees, and finally-finally-their bodies aligned side by side.

“You… you’re warm,” Jay said softly. His Versa nature was alive, pulsing with awareness of Luther’s Omega heat, the comforting scent of his hair and skin.

“You’re… warmer,” Luther admitted, voice trembling slightly. His tail of embarrassment-or was it anticipation?-flicked across his expression. “And… you smell like… roses from the gardens. Tea. Sweat… and…” He trailed off, throat tightening.

Jay grinned. “And?”

“And… you. Only you.”

Time seemed to pause. Their gazes locked. Luther’s hand brushed Jay’s, lingering, palm warm and steady. Jay’s fingers responded, curling slightly over Luther’s in unspoken acknowledgment. The connection was electric-delicate yet charged with tension neither had fully faced before.

“Do you… want me to… stay?” Luther asked quietly, voice almost a whisper, lips just grazing Jay’s temple as he spoke.

“Yes,” Jay breathed. “I want you close. I… I want to see if we can…” He left the thought unfinished, letting the silence hang heavy, thick with possibility.

Luther shifted, his body aligning more completely with Jay’s. Heat pooled where their thighs pressed together, the subtle rise and fall of breaths mingling. He whispered, “I don’t want to hurt you… or make you uncomfortable.”

Jay shook his head slightly. “You won’t. I trust you. You’re… you.”

The Omega warmth from Luther pressed against Jay’s side, rising in intensity. It made Jay aware of his own Versa instincts-the ability to resonate with Luther, to balance, to mirror, to adapt. A shiver ran down his spine, half delight, half anticipation.

“Then we’ll try,” Luther murmured, closing the distance just enough for Jay to feel his breath against his neck. “Together.”

Jay’s heart hammered. His hand moved instinctively, brushing along Luther’s arm, feeling muscle and warmth, the subtle pulse of blood beneath skin. Their closeness, the way Luther’s body molded to his, made every nerve in his body tingle with a delicious kind of tension.

Outside, the palace was quiet. Inside, it was electric.

“You smell… even better up close,” Luther whispered, voice low, eyes locked on Jay’s.

Jay laughed softly, a warm, breathy sound. “You’re ridiculous. You’re always ridiculous.”

“I’m serious,” Luther said, though his lips curved slightly. “You’re… perfect. And I… I want this. Not just a week. Not just a day. I want…”

“You want me,” Jay finished, teasing lightly, though his pulse betrayed his sincerity. “I know.”

They shifted again, this time sitting side by side on the chaise, knees touching, shoulders brushing. Luther’s hand found Jay’s again, this time more boldly, cupping his waist, fingers splayed against silk and skin. Jay leaned into the warmth, closing his eyes for a moment, letting himself absorb the sensation.

“Feels… right,” Jay murmured. “Being like this with you.”

“It does,” Luther whispered back, voice trembling slightly. “I… I’ve never… felt this way before.”

Jay opened one eye, smirking faintly. “You mean with me?”

“Yes,” Luther said, almost desperately. “Only you.”

Jay reached up, brushing a strand of hair from Luther’s face, letting his fingers linger. “Then stay. Don’t leave my side tonight.”

“I won’t,” Luther promised. He shifted closer, letting his head rest gently against Jay’s shoulder. The warmth from Luther’s Omega body seeped into Jay, wrapping around him like a living, breathing blanket.

They remained that way for a long while, quiet but connected, hearts syncing in subtle rhythm. Jay’s hand rested lightly over Luther’s, fingers twining unconsciously. The world outside faded-the palace, the siblings, the distant news of candidates and political gossip-all of it melted into insignificance.

“You know,” Jay murmured, voice low, teasing but tender, “this… isn’t exactly what Brother Lucien had in mind for training.”

Luther chuckled softly, a rare, intimate sound that made Jay’s chest tighten. “No. Not at all. But… perhaps this… is better.”

Jay’s lips curved into a genuine smile, leaning slightly into Luther’s chest. “Yes. Much better.”

And for that night, neither cared about etiquette, training, or duties. There was only warmth, trust, and the delicate, simmering promise of something deeper.

Somewhere in the back of his mind, Jay knew this was just the beginning. The week of closeness had brought them to a threshold, a boundary neither dared cross fully-but tonight, side by side, they had taken the first step.

And as he drifted toward sleep, Jay realized that despite his crown, his duties, and the chaos of his life, he had finally found a constant. Not a protector, not a servant, not a tutor.

But a partner.
