Chapter 92

"Maybe," Kael cautioned. "This could be a trap. They know we'll be looking. This could be bait to draw us in."

"Then we spring the trap," Rafael said coldly. "How many men do we have available?"

"Fifty," Miguel said. "Maybe sixty if we pull from the estate security."

"Not enough," Kael said. "Not if they're as organized as they appear to be."

Rafael's phone buzzed. He glanced at the screen, a message from an unknown number with a British country code.

Dogs deployed. ETA: 45 minutes.

  • FIGHTING HIS OWN DESIRES

CHAPTER 140Isabella's hand gripped Adrian's arm tightly as they ran, her breathing ragged, her eyes still wide with shock.Behind them, Le Château Laurier continued to burn, flames reaching toward the sky, smoke billowing in thick black clouds that could probably be seen from across the city.Emergency vehicles were converging on the scene, fire trucks, ambulances, police cars, their sirens creating a cacophony that made Adrian's sensitive hearing ache."Your car," Isabella gasped as they reached the SUV. "Where did you park?""Across the street," Adrian said, already moving in that direction. They reached the vehicle, and Adrian practically threw open the passenger door, ushering Isabella inside before running around to the driver's side.He slid behind the wheel, his hands shaking slightly from adrenaline as he started the engine."Wait," Isabella said, her hand on his arm stopping him from putting the car in drive. "We can't go back to your estate."Adrian frowned beneath his mask

  • NO WHERE WAS SAFE ANYMORE

CHAPTER 139They settled into the private seating area, and a server appeared almost immediately, a young woman with impeccable posture who took their drink orders without a trace of the judgment Adrian had encountered downstairs."Whiskey, neat," Adrian said. "Whatever your best single malt is.""The same," Isabella added. "And please, we'd like privacy. No interruptions unless we call for you.""Of course, Miss Moreau," the server said with a respectful bow, then disappeared.Silence settled over them, awkward, heavy with unspoken words.Adrian studied Isabella's face, noting the slight shadows under her eyes that suggested she hadn't slept well. The way her hands fidgeted with the edge of her jacket. The careful way she was sitting, not quite relaxed, as if movement caused discomfort."Are you still in pain?" Adrian asked quietly, the question escaping before he could stop it.Isabella's eyes widened slightly. "What?""Down there," Adrian said, feeling his face heat despite the ma

  • I GUESS I'M ABOUT TO FIND OUT

CHAPTER 138Adrian sat in the driver's seat of a sleek black SUV, parked across the street from one of Ottawa's most prestigious hotels, Le Château Laurier. The building was magnificent, a limestone masterpiece of Gothic Revival architecture that had stood as a symbol of luxury and exclusivity since 1912.It towered over the surrounding area, all turrets and copper roofs, looking more like a French castle than a hotel. This was where the elite came to stay. Where prime ministers conducted private meetings.Where international business deals worth billions were negotiated over champagne and caviar. And it was where Adrian had scheduled to meet Isabella. He'd sent her a message that morning, brief, carefully worded, trying to sound casual despite the weight of what he was planning to do."Can we talk? I know yesterday was... complicated. But I'd like to explain. Le Château Laurier, 2 PM? The private lounge on the fifth floor."She'd responded after an hour that felt like an eternity: "F

  • A PREDATOR WEARING A MASK

CHAPTER 137:Adrian sat on the edge of his bed, staring at his hands. They were steady. Completely steady. No trembling. No petrification creeping across his skin. No gray stone spreading from his fingertips like it had been doing for weeks.Just... normal hands.Human hands.Except I'm not human, Adrian thought bitterly. I'm a monster pretending to be human. A predator wearing a mask. The discussion about Isabella had left him feeling profoundly unsettled, like the ground beneath his feet had turned to quicksand. He didn't know what to believe anymore. Was Isabella truly what she seemed, a kind, compassionate woman who had helped him out of genuine concern? Or was she oblivious to who and what she really was, unknowingly carrying supernatural markers in her blood that made her compatible with a Primal Vampire? If she was oblivious, that was understandable. Forgivable, even. But if she knew what she was, if she'd been pretending this whole time, playing some role for reasons Adrian c

  • WHO TRUELY IS ISABELLA MOREAU ?

Chapter 136Adrian was quiet, realizing with uncomfortable clarity that he knew almost nothing."She's a model," Adrian said weakly. "She does photoshoots for fashion brands. Her father is Jean-Baptiste Moreau, a successful businessman who..."He stopped, remembering Jean-Baptiste's reaction at the factory. The terror in the man's eyes when he'd seen Adrian's Primal form."Who knows about the supernatural world," Rafael finished. "We've established that. Jean-Baptiste clearly has knowledge of vampires, of supernatural politics, of power structures that normal humans shouldn't know about.""Which raises the question," Fabian said, "of how he knows. And why. And what connection his family—Isabella's family—has to the supernatural community."Adrian stood abruptly, beginning to pace. "So what, you think Isabella has been lying to me? Hiding something?""Not necessarily lying," Fabian said carefully. "She might not even know herself. If her supernatural heritage has been hidden or suppres

  • WHO IS REALLY ISABELLA

CHAPTER 135The black armored SUV pulled up to the Valerio estate just as dusk was settling over Ottawa, painting the sky in shades of deep purple and gold. The engine cut off, and for a moment, everyone inside the vehicle just sat there, exhausted, overwhelmed, processing the events of the past twenty-four hours. Then Rafael opened his door. "Let's go inside. We all need rest. And food. And probably several stiff drinks."One by one, they climbed out.Adrian emerged last, moving slowly, his body language screaming exhaustion. His suit was rumpled from the long day, his white hair disheveled, and there were dark circles under his eyes that spoke of too little sleep and too much stress.Miguel and Kael headed immediately toward the security wing to coordinate with the teams monitoring the estate's perimeter, the threat of the Cazadores de la Noche still looming over them like a sword hanging by a thread. But Adrian, Rafael, and Fabian walked together toward the main entrance, their foo
