"A pillar? Wait a minute, doesn't this look like hell's mandate erected in the capital, right above the primordial infernal realm? I've only seen it once when I went there to make a report but I definitely can't forget it!" The male asked the leader who closed the scroll, rolled it up and returned it to the pouch.

"Hell's mandate? You surely jest, looks like you don't know it's significance, if hell's mandate ever falls or leaves the primordial infernal realm that means it's the end for the infernal realm. It could be a mockery of it, who knows, just do your job and get the pay, whatever it is or what they need it for isn't our business to meddle in."

Bennett clenched tight onto his sword, a serious expression on his face, he had forgotten all about his previous words and his 30 seconds defence stand, the pressure he felt from Yan Ming in his current state was enough to threaten even him.

He took a huge leap towards Yan Ming, thrusting towards his arm, he still didn't intend to harm this precious student of his, setting aside the fact that it would be a waste of his potential to die here, the Frostmoon family definitely won't let him go easily.

Yan Ming retaliated with a wild and brutal swing aiming towards his upper torso, the two swords clashed, the impact creating a slight gust of wind. Bennett stepped back a few meters, his hands slightly sore while Yan Ming was nearly hurled against the villa's fence, his hands were visibly trembling but he regained control in an instant, it felt like nothing was wrong but such a detail couldn't escape from Bennett's eyes.

'I can't believe it, he's trading blows with me on almost equal grounds, even though I can't use my techniques to avoid damaging the capital this is still insane!!'

Yan Ming gripped onto the sword, darting towards Bennett for another swing, this action brought a smile to Bennett's lips, an even more terrifying aura spread from his body, his hairs turned purple, his eyes had sparks of lightning crackling through them.

"Lightning Tribulation Art!!" He screamed out, his force increasing several times over once again, with a light steps he darted forward to meet Yan Ming midway, the two clashing once again, this time Bennett stood in the same spot while Yan Ming was blown far away, crashing into the fence breaking it apart.

Bennett stood on the same spot surrounded by thunder like a deity, he was born with a natural Heavenly Thunder body that gave him a very high affinity with the thunder element and made learning techniques related to it easier to learn, aside from that it gave him a special elemental force, partial control over yang, one of the founding elements of the universe.

The rubble split apart, revealing Yan Ming who stood without a scratch on him, it felt like the hit didn't affect him the slightest bit.

"You really are interesting, I'll give you that, time to go all out." he said, stretched out his left hand creating another sword, spears appeared in the space surrounding him, their tips pointed towards Bennett, a raging torrent of flames spread towards Bennett, the whole courtyard was blazing with fire, spreading all through it's nooks and crannies.

Bennett's eyes opened wide, he didn't expect the so called elemental possession to be this absurd, creating over thirty treasures at once, even the whole empire might not have up to this amount.

Yan Ming darted forward once again, the flames formed an armor on his body, a light wheel appeared on his feet, enabling him to dive and turn mid-air, following right behind him were the spears forged from flames all targeted towards Bennett, spreading out in a formation to attack him from all sides.

"Lightning Viagra!" Bennett screamed out then swung his sword in a wide arc, generating a mini storm made of thunder, dissipating the flames and the spears locked at him, Yan Ming merely docked to dodge it then continued his assault, creating even more spears, hurling them at Bennett.

Bennett raised his sword to block him, an ominous feeling welling up in his chest as he watched Yan Ming who was approaching with a smile.

"It's been long I've felt this thrill, how long has it been." he muttered, raised his sword then gathered a surge of Qi towards it's edge, fused the two swords together changing the shape into a wide broadsword, swinging it down, propelled by the force of Qi gathered at it's edge.

Bennett took the swing head on and was forced back, his hands shaking violently, his gaze turned solemn, his sword had tiny cracks on it already.

'Isn't there a limit to the amount of Qi he can gather? Isn't there a limit to the duration? Every passing second his energy level keeps increasing and it feels like he's forging that sword into something beyond divine treasures, he fused two sword into one and created this, I need to end this quickly.' Bennett thought, his eyes suddenly pulsed, an invincible force spreading out with him at the center, the moment this force appeared everyone in the imperial palace was alarmed.

"Soul Manifestation, a pretty descent one." Yan Ming said with a slight nod, he didn't seem perturbed by Bennett's new power spike.

"Keep them coming, I hope you give me a good time." he added with a smile, raised his broadsword and placed it on his shoulder, a calm expression on his face.

Bennett raised his sword, an endless surge of thunder swirling round it's edge "you'd better watch out now, I might actually accidentally kill you."

"Don't bother, you should be the one to watch out for yourself, trust me."

  • What Remains: End Of Book One

A year later, the coalition that had once formed purely from desperate necessity had settled into something considerably more permanent — a genuine, lasting alliance between eleven territories that continued cooperating on trade, mutual defense, and the ongoing work of ensuring the Concord's dissolved structures never again coalesced into anything resembling their former, coercive unity. Tian Shen, now formally recognized as the alliance's primary coordinating voice, had proven himself as capable a peacetime leader as he'd been a wartime commander, the Tian clan's territory flourishing under his continued, thoughtful governance. Long Xue had settled into a role as the alliance's primary liaison to the void dragon clan's reforming leadership, her own journey from grief-driven hunter to genuine, trusted ally now complete in ways that had transformed her entirely from the cold, calculating figure who'd once ambushed Yan Ming at the Withering Garden's threshold. She vi

  • A Quiet Return

Nearly six months after the convergence's collapse, with the coalition's rebuilding efforts finally settling into sustainable, ongoing rhythm rather than urgent, demanding crisis, Yan Ming and Qing Chun found themselves, for the first time since their tournament victory so long ago, with genuine, unhurried time to simply exist together without the weight of imminent catastrophe pressing against every decision. "Do you remember," Qing Chun said, as they walked together through the same tournament city where their journey had first properly begun, its streets considerably more peaceful now than the chaotic, celebration-filled days following Yan Ming's unexpected victory, "when you told me jade necklaces were useless, and then bought me one anyway?" "I remember," he said, managing a genuine, warm smile at the memory's simplicity, so distant now from everything they'd since endured together. "You still have it?" "Always." She touched the necklace at her throat, the s

  • Rebuilding

The weeks that followed brought the considerable, demanding work of transitioning from war back toward peace, the coalition's eleven territories gradually shifting their focus from coordinated military preparation toward the equally challenging task of helping the Concord's absorbed sects and territories reestablish independent governance, free from the coercive unity Feng Lie Zun's ambition had once imposed upon them. Tian Shen took a leading role in this transition, his diplomatic skill proving as valuable in peace as it had been in building the original alliance, carefully navigating the complicated process of restoring trust and autonomy to territories that had spent years under the Concord's controlling influence. "It's slower work than the battle itself, in some ways," he admitted to Yan Ming, during one of their regular strategy sessions turned peace-building consultations. "Fighting has a clear beginning and end. Rebuilding trust, restoring genuine inde

  • The Warden's Confirmation

Three days after the battle's conclusion, as the coalition's forces settled into the considerable work of managing the Concord's dissolved territory and beginning the delicate process of reintegrating absorbed sects back into independent governance, Yan Ming found himself once more drawn toward quiet solitude, old habit of reflection reasserting itself amid the aftermath's demanding, ongoing activity. He found Qing Chun and Long Xue already waiting near the makeshift camp's quiet edge when a familiar, layered voice broke the evening's stillness. "You've accomplished something remarkable," the Warden said, materializing with the same unhurried, patient grace that had marked his previous appearances, grey robes settling around him as though he'd simply always been present, watching quietly from just beyond ordinary perception. "I confess, even I hadn't fully anticipated this particular resolution." "You knew about Feng Lie Zun's manipulation?" Yan Ming asked, old

  • The Battle

They emerged from the spire's shattered entrance to a scene of considerable, ongoing chaos, the coalition's massive diversionary force still locked in fierce engagement with the Concord's outer defenses, though the battle's character had visibly shifted in the time they'd spent within the spire's confines. Concord soldiers, no longer receiving coordinated command from whatever central authority had directed their earlier, disciplined resistance, fought now with the scattered, uncertain desperation of an army that sensed something fundamental had changed. "The convergence's collapse must be affecting them," Yan Ming observed, studying the battlefield's shifted dynamics with old, tactical assessment despite his considerable exhaustion. "Whatever loyalty bound them to Feng Lie Zun's cause, it's clearly tied at least partially to the array's continued function." "Then let's make sure that collapse continues," Long Xue said, already moving toward the nearest cluster

  • What Remains Between Brothers

They rested amid the chamber's settling wreckage for a long while, exhaustion from the confrontation's staggering demands finally, fully catching up to all four of them. Qing Chun leaned heavily against Yan Ming, her cultivation reserves depleted almost entirely by the containment technique's considerable exertion, though her eyes remained open, alert despite the fatigue. "You're alright?" Yan Ming asked, old concern evident despite his own considerable exhaustion. "I will be," she said, managing a tired but genuine smile. "Tianyi says the depletion is significant but not dangerous. Just needs time to properly recover." Long Xue settled nearby, void-attribute qi finally quieting after the confrontation's demanding exertion, her gaze drifting toward Feng Lie Zun's kneeling, exhausted form with old, complicated wariness that hadn't entirely faded despite his genuine cooperation. "What happens to you now?" Feng Lie Zun looked up slowly, old weariness and somethi
