Vance stared at the cracked silver blade. The weapon offered no advantage against the thick metal enhancements of his enemy. He tossed the ruined sword aside. The metal clattered against the broken marble floor.

Marco laughed. The dark sound echoed in the ruined penthouse. His purple glowing fists crackled with raw power. He looked like a nightmare forged from steel and neon light.

"You are nothing," the crime boss snarled. He cracked his thick neck. "Just another dead rat in my city."

Vance drew the cheap switchblade from his waistband. The tiny knife felt weightless in his grip. He focused his mind on the stolen combat memories. Fear did not exist in his veins anymore. He felt hungry. He wanted that purple energy.

Marco charged forward. The massive man moved with terrifying momentum. He swung a giant fist aimed at the skull of his opponent.

Vance dodged to the left. The strike missed his head and hit the stone wall behind him. The thick concrete shattered into a million pieces. The shockwave threw Vance off balance, sending him stumbling across the room.

The System interface flashed a bright crimson warning in his vision.

[Hostile Target Energy Output Increasing. Evasion Recommended.]

Vance ignored the warning. He could not run. He needed the energy pulsing inside Marco. He tightened his grip on the switchblade and stepped into the danger zone.

Marco unleashed a fast barrage of devastating punches. Each blow carried enough force to crush a car. Vance used his stolen speed to weave through the attacks. He ducked under a wide hook and parried a jab with the flat side of his tiny knife. The impact sent a jolt of pain up his arm, but he held his ground.

Marco swung his left fist. Vance dropped under the massive arm. He delivered a fast punch to the ribs of the crime boss. The strike felt like hitting solid concrete. Vance felt his own knuckles bruise.

Marco retaliated with a brutal knee strike. Vance crossed his arms to block. The sheer force launched him backward. He crashed into the broken display case. Shards of glass rained down on his shoulders.

The crime boss stepped forward, crushing the broken glass under his boots. He prepared to deliver a finishing blow.

Vance rolled out of the way just in time. The heavy boot of the boss smashed a hole into the marble floor.

Vance kept his eyes focused on the chest of the crime boss. He noticed a pattern. Every time Marco swung his right arm with maximum force, the purple tattoos on his chest dimmed for a fraction of a second. The cybernetic core needed time to recharge after a heavy strike. That tiny window was his one chance.

"Stop dancing and die!" Marco roared in frustration. He grabbed a heavy oak table with both hands and hurled it across the room.

Vance ducked under the airborne furniture. The table crashed out the broken window and fell into the dark city streets below. Vance sprinted forward. He closed the distance before Marco could recover his stance.

Marco raised his guard, expecting an attack to his face. Vance did not aim for the head. He dropped low to the ground and drove a brutal kick into the kneecap of the boss. The joint snapped with a sickening crunch.

The massive man bellowed in pain. His iron guard dropped. The purple glowing core on his chest was exposed.

Vance lunged. He channeled all his stolen strength into his right hand. He thrust the switchblade deep into the center of the metallic tattoos. The blade pierced the metal and hit the power core underneath.

Sparks erupted from the deep wound. Marco gasped. The purple light flickered and died. The massive crime boss collapsed onto the ruined floor, his eyes rolling back in his head.

The blue System screen appeared.

[Target Neutralized. Commencing Extraction Protocol.]

A torrent of purple energy rushed out of Marco and flowed into Vance. It burned with a chaotic fire. It felt like swallowing a storm.

[Extracting Target: Enhanced Crime Boss. Extracting Attribute: Cybernetic Durability. Extracting Skill: Overload Protocol.]

Vance fell to his knees. The new power reshaped his muscles. His skin hardened into a dense armor under his clothes. The pain was intense, but he welcomed it with a grim smile. The System interface chimed with a new notification.

[Main Quest Finished: The Price of Power.]

[Syndicate Debt Cleared.]

[New Area Unlocked: The Inner City Rings.]

Vance stood up. He walked over to the hidden safe in the corner of the room. The memories he stole from Silas provided the exact code. He punched in the numbers. The heavy steel door clicked open.

Inside, he found stacks of untraceable cash and a glowing iron token. The crest of the Iron Fangs sat stamped into the metal. This was proof of Marco and his connection to the true rulers of Veridian.

Vance pocketed the money and the token. He walked to the edge of the broken window and looked down at the neon city below. He owned this sector now. The Iron Fangs would come for him soon, but he was ready. He was the apex predator of the slums.
