It was Liwei… the little disciple who had found me first.
She rushed forward, standing beside me. She was probably eavesdropping earlier. “He’s injured! In fact he’s barely alive. Not only have you not treated him, now you want to send him away, sect master. Why would you send away someone who hasn’t harmed us?” Xuan Baoyang looked at her coldly then he went on to say. “You think mercy is free, child? I have led this sect for many years, and I know what must be cut out before it becomes a blade of destruction.” “But! Sect Leader.” “Enough. Go back to your quarters now.” His voice silenced her remaining words. But Liwei did not move. She stood by me, fists clenched, tears threatening to pour down her eyes. She reminded me of Xiao Lan with how protective she was of me. My chest felt very uncomfortable.. I subconsciously rubbed it. “Then let me take responsibility,” she said. “If he ends up harming the sect, punish me instead.” I blinked in Surprise at how far she was willing to go for me. Xuan Bao Yang's gaze narrowed. “Bold words for a girl who hasn’t even formed her golden core.” “Bold enough,” she whispered, “to believe not all broken things are dangerous.” “I too will vouch for him,” Senior Brother Huo said suddenly. I believe he wouldn’t bring danger to the sect. We shouldn’t turn a man in need away because of a fear of the unknown.” Sect Leader Xuan Baoyang turned his gaze to him, sharp as a sword unsheathed. “You would stake the lives of everyone on this stranger?” “I don’t think that’s what I’m doing,” Huo said calmly. Before the sect leader could respond, I spoke out, my voice low but steady. “I’m only a victim of a battle. I’m not a threat to your sect.” His eyes narrowed. “Let us test your truth.” And without warning… he struck. A golden palm of compressed qi surged forward, laced with Heaven-Searing energy. It roared through the chamber like a divine blade and aimed straight for my heart. “Sect Leader, please wait—!” “No!” Liwei’s scream echoed. I didn’t move… I couldn’t. My qi was crippled, my meridians damaged beyond repair. My body had no strength to defend, no power to resist. Did he intend to kill me… But just as death approached.. BOOM! A lunar shield erupted from my chest in a blinding burst of silver-blue light. The impact rang out like thunder cracking through the heavens. Golden force met silver moonlight and shattered in every direction, hurling scrolls off shelves and sending a ripple through the mountain itself. The force knocked me back onto one knee, panting. The shield shimmered once more before fading into the air like nothing just happened. The hall fell utterly silent. Sect Leader Xuan lowered his hand, his eyes blazing. “…That qi,” he said coldly. “That seal…” He stepped closer, each footfall like the toll of a war drum. Then he said waringly. “Who are you?” I raised my head slowly, blood trickling from the corner of my mouth. Who are you?” He asked again. Sect Leader Xuan’s voice resonated heavily through the hall, filled with qi, command, and killing intent. I opened my mouth. But before I could speak— Darkness swallowed me whole. The physical world vanished. I was falling again drawn into the shadowy core of my soul. The void. And at its center, flickering like a dying flame, was the wounded figure of Moonfang, he was still chained and ragged. “Moonfang… why did you suddenly draw me in?” The great wolf lifted its head weakly. Its eyes glinted faintly in the murk. “You felt it, didn’t you?” it rasped. “The first fragment… it’s near.” I stiffened. “In the sect?” Moonfang nodded slowly. “Somewhere within Tianxuan’s borders… it’s hidden and sealed. The moment the Sect Leader struck, I was able to borrow its power just a little and then send the lunar shield to protect you. I can’t pinpoint it exactly… your body is still too weak but it’s here.” I clenched my fists. “Then I’ll find it right now. I’ll reclaim what’s mine.” The wolf growled slowly. “Not yet. Do not expose yourself.” “What?” “The Sect Leader is no fool. He suspects too much already. If you admit who you are now… you won’t live long enough to touch that fragment.” “But then what do I—” “You have to think of what to say. Lie and bend if you have to. I might not be able to borrow it’s powers again until you recover a little more.” He emphasized on his remaining words. “Buy yourself time, Kaien. Say anything—anything that lets you stay here longer. This place may be a cage for now… but it is also the key to getting the first fragment.” I gritted my teeth. The void slowly faded again. “Find the fragment,” Moonfang whispered. “As soon as possible, I don’t know how much longer I can hold on..” I regained my consciousness again. Sect Leader Xuan still stood before me, eyes narrowed, obviously burning with suspicion. Liwei and Senior Brother Huo looked frozen behind me, waiting for my reply. I swallowed the truth. And replaced it with something else. “I’m… a former disciple of Cloudveil Temple,” I said slowly, voice weak. “It was destroyed during the last demonic incursion.” I took a deep breath. “I’ve been wandering ever since. I had no sect, no master. I don’t seek trouble. I only sought shelter.” Xuan’s gaze sharpened like a blade. “Cloudveil Temple was erased six years ago. You expect me to believe a crippled stray survived its fall?” I bowed my head. “Recently, a powerful cultivator mistook me for someone else. That’s why I’m like this. I wasn’t injured last six years ago. But believe what you will. I have no strength left to prove otherwise. So if you want to kill me then you can.” I was betting that he would have a bit of a conscience and that my lie was very believable. He stared at me for a long moment. “Tch.” He turned away. “You will remain under observation. I will also find a way to confirm what you just said. If I find out that you were lying to me… I will finish what I started.”Latest Chapter
Chapter Twenty-Nine: Ferocious Beast
Third POVShe didn’t seem to want to say much after that, and Kaien didn’t push it either. The words she had spoken lingered in his mind for a while. Waking up after death… appearing in the Wuyin Domain and then being captured almost immediately—it didn’t sit right. It seemed as though someone was manipulating things from behind the scenes. But this wasn’t the time to dig into it.Kaien’s gaze lowered slightly, his expression remaining calm even as his thoughts were redirected, moving past the conversation and toward something far more pressing.Retrieving the third fragment was the main priority. Slowly, Kaien began to map out his next move, his mind working through every possible angle, every risk, every path he could take without exposing himself. The estate was heavily guarded. He had already confirmed that much earlier. The number of soldiers stationed around the place alone made any reckless attempt pointless. If he moved carelessly, everything would fall apart. And he couldn
Chapter Twenty-Eight: Found Her
Third POV After a while, they came to call everyone inside the room to work.Kaien was dawdling a little bit, trying to look for Li Wei, when a loud voice called out to him. “You. Move.”He paused slightly before turning and walking toward him without saying anything.Up close, his expression was even worse, cold and impatient, like Kaien was nothing more than something inconvenient standing in his way.“Stop standing around and make yourself useful,” he said as he shoved a bucket into Kaien’s hands. “Go clean the outer halls and make sure you don’t take all day doing it.”The force of the bucket hitting his palm made his fingers tighten around it immediately, but he didn’t react beyond that.He lowered his head slightly, forcing his voice to stay calm.“Alright.”He didn’t even bother responding properly, only scoffing before waving him off. Kaien turned and walked away, the bucket hanging from his hand as he moved to the outer hall to clean it up.His eyes stayed lowered most of th
Chapter Twenty- Seven: That Dimwit..
Third POV Lan Su stayed silent for a while. She leaned against the broken wall, her arms loosely crossed, her gaze half-lidded as if she was resting. But Kaien could tell she wasn’t fully relaxed. Her awareness still stretched outward. After some time, she opened her eyes.“I’m going to check the situation,” she said, pushing herself off the wall. Her tone was casual, but there was seriousness beneath it.Kaien looked at her and gave a small nod.“Alright.”Lan Su didn’t say anything else. She turned and walked away, her figure disappearing quickly. Kaien remained where he was for a moment, his thoughts still unsettled, still circling around the same thing.Li Wei.His jaw tightened slightly. Then his gaze shifted and something caught his attention. On the ground, not too far from where Lan Su had been standing, a few of her belongings were left behind carelessly. Nothing too important at first glance. But one thing stood out.A mask.Kaien’s brows drew together slightly as he stepp
Chapter Twenty-Six: Chiyaan Soldiers
Third POV They continued their journey through the thick fog, their steps steady as they moved side by side. The deeper they went, the quieter everything became. The usual shifting sounds of the domain had faded, leaving behind an unsettling stillness that pressed heavily against their senses. Even the fog itself seemed calmer here, no longer twisting wildly around them like before.Kaien’s eyes stayed fixed ahead as he walked. The silence gave him too much room to think about how easily he had fallen for the illusions. The thought still left a bitter taste in his mouth. He tightened his jaw slightly and pushed the thought away. There was no point dwelling on it now.Beside him, Lan Su remained calm, her posture straight, her hand resting lightly near the dagger at her waist as her eyes scanned the path ahead. After a while, the fog finally began to thin. And then—They saw a bridge stretched before them, long and narrow, suspended over a dark hollow that disappeared into endless mis
Chapter Twenty-Five: Rescued
Third POV A dagger sliced cleanly through the thick fog, embedding itself into the trunk of a dead tree several feet ahead. The woman lowered her hand slowly, her fingers flexing slightly as she continued walking down the narrow fog-covered road. Her brows were drawn together tightly, a faint irritation settling across her face.Of all places she could have ended up, it had to be here. The Wuyin Domain.Just thinking about it made her jaw tighten. Her grip around the second dagger resting at her side tightened slightly as her thoughts drifted back to everything that had happened since she was dragged into this cursed place. The illusions. Those persistent, pathetic things that had followed her through the endless white fog, trying over and over to break through her mind. They had shown her familiar faces.Dragged out memories she had buried long ago and whispered things into her ears with voices so real that for a moment, even she had paused. But that was all they could do.A faint s
Chapter Twenty-Four: Disappearance
Li Kaien My fingers shifted slightly against my knee as I finally lifted my gaze from the fire to meet hers. “Um, I came through a spatial rift,” I said, my voice steady, though my mind was already weighing how much I should actually say. “And?” she pressed immediately, leaning forward just a little, clearly not satisfied with such a simple answer. Before I could respond— “Yu Yan.” A voice called out from the side, firm but not harsh. “Leave him alone. Stop bothering him.” She turned almost instantly, her expression changing as she frowned slightly. “Big brother, I’m not,” she said quickly, a small huff escaping her as she pushed herself up to her feet. “Hmph.” She walked over to his side without another word, though I could still feel her lingering curiosity even from where I sat. I let out a low breath I didn’t realize I had been holding. My gaze dropped back to the fire, the warmth brushing lightly against my face as the tension in my shoulders eased just a l
