Chapter Thirty-nine

Charlie’s heart hit her mouth at the same time as her body stiffened and sent her stomach plummeting to the dirt below her feet. She had been panicking when Sarah had pulled her to a standstill but the sea of calm in her eyes as she spoke, had eased Charlie’s fears and made her think everything was going to be okay. But, it wasn’t. She knew that as soon as her worst nightmare had stepped out from the tree.

“That was a wonderful thing for you to have done. Your words were truly magical and extremely convincing,” Rafael said.
