Sierra nodded, fresh tears slipping down her face. "He did slap me… countless times," she whispered, her voice shaking.

She sniffled, gripping Elijah’s shirt as she continued, “It wasn’t my fault, Elijah. He—he lied to me. He told me he was FlibbityBoo, that’s why I went out with him last time and lied. I just… I just didn’t want you to feel bad.”

Her sobs grew heavier, her small frame trembling in his hold. "Forgive me," she pleaded.

Elijah pulled her into his arms, holding her tightly. “I know it’s not your fault,” he said firmly. “Betty already told me.”

Sierra blinked through her tears, looking up at him. “Betty? You met her?”

Elijah nodded. “Yeah. She told me you went out with Chris, and after that, I figured everything out. I tracked him down and called him on purpose—to distract him.”

Chris, still standing across the room with Felix’s gun aimed at him, felt his heart sink. His breath hitched, and realization dawned on him.

The damn phone calls… They were all Elijah’s doing.

Now look where we are!”“Shut the fuck up!” Chris barked, his face red with frustration and fear.“Nah, you shut the fuck up!” one of them shot back. “Because of you, one of us is already dead upstairs, and now we’re about to join him!”Chris gritted his teeth, glancing back at Elijah, whose face remained cold and unbothered.Elijah tilted his head. “This is interesting,” he mused. “Your own men turning against you. Outside, the night air was cool, a stark contrast to the heavy scent of blood inside. He reached the car and opened the door, his gaze immediately softening as he saw Sierra resting in the front seat, the seat extended back for comfort. Her breathing was steady, though she still looked exhausted.Elijah slid into the driver’s seat and reached out, brushing his fingers lightly over her hand. “I’m back,” he murmured, his voice gentler now. “You’ll be fine. I promise.”Sierra stirred slightly as she felt Elijah’s warmth beside her. Slowly, she extended her hand, slipping it into his. She pulled out a stethoscope, placing it neatly on the nightstand before reaching for a small flashlight, which she tested before setting it beside the stethoscope.Next, she brought out a digital blood pressure monitor, unrolling the cuff carefully. She placed a pulse oximeter on the bedside table, followed by a small case of syringes and vials—most likely antidotes or treatments for drug intoxication. A thermometer, antiseptic wipes, and a small notepad were next, each placed in an orderly fashion as she prepared to assess Sierra properly. She also retrieved a portable IV drip stand, adjusting its height before hanging a bag of saline solution on it. As she carefully prepared the tubing, she glanced at Sierra, her expression calm and reassur

"A thief?" Elijah asked, tilting his head slightly, amusement flickering in his eyes."Give me your phone," the man said more firmly, stepping closer. "And your car key. Every dollar you have, too."Elijah chuckled, shaking his head. "First of all, thinking you'll get my phone is a joke. Secondly, asking for my car keys?" He let out another laugh. "Now that’s even funnier."The thief scowled, gripping the knife tighter."You know what? I'm in a hurry." Elijah reached into his pocket and pulled out a thick stack of hundred-dollar bills. "Here," he said, holding them up. "This is $5,000… or more, I think. Have it and just leave.”The thief hesitated, his eyes widening as he snatched the cash. He quickly counted through it, his fingers shaking slightly. His breathing hitched when he realized it was actually $7,100.But greed had already taken hold."Drop your car key and the phone too," he demanded, his knife still pointed at Elijah. His confidence grew as he saw how easily Elijah had ha

Nathaniel’s father frowned, his sharp eyes narrowing. “What do you mean by some guy shut down the proposal?”Nathaniel exhaled through his nose, still feeling the sting of the interaction. “I mean exactly that. I approached Celestine Valencia, but instead of responding to me, she let some man sitting beside her take charge. He questioned everything—picked apart our security protocols, pointed out flaws, and made it seem like working with us was a risk instead of an opportunity. By the time he was done talking, Celestine had lost interest, and I had no way to counter him.”His father’s expression darkened with anger. “And you just let that happen?” He scoffed, shaking his head in disappointment. “You let some nobody dismiss years of our research and development like it was nothing?” He stood up abruptly, his hands tightening into fists at his sides.Nathaniel clenched his jaw. “I—”“I might have been wrong handing Mercer Innovations over to you,” his father interrupted, his tone sharp

Elijah leaned slightly against the wall, his expression calm. “It’s a thank-you tip.”Celeste let out a soft chuckle and shook her head. “Thank you, but I can’t accept it. You’ve already paid for everything. There’s no need to give me anything extra. It’s my duty.”Elijah shook his head. “Have it. Moreover, I love how you work. I’ll take your contact and call you directly next time when there’s an issue.”Celeste hesitated for a moment before finally taking the money. “Alright. Thank you.”She then took his phone from the table, quickly typed in her number, and saved it. Handing it back to him, she said, “Now you can reach me whenever.”Elijah nodded. “Thank you, Celeste. It’s really late—are you sure you can leave safely?”Celeste smiled and waved off his concern. “Oh yes, I brought the hospital car, so that’s not a problem. I’m heading back to the hospital.”Elijah gave a small nod and walked her to the door. He watched as she got into the car and drove off before locking the main g
