Fred stared at the photographs for nearly three minutes without moving.

The anonymous message had arrived at exactly 6:12 AM.

No sender, no explanation, just four pictures attached beneath the same sentence from the previous night.

Your wife deserves better than you.

The first image showed Daniella laughing across the restaurant table, the second captured Tony leaning toward her while she smiled, and the third was worse. Tony’s hand rested lightly over hers.

And the fourth—The fourth looked intimate enough to destroy a marriage.

Fred sat alone in the dark living room while dawn slowly crept through the penthouse windows. The untouched whiskey glass remained beside him from hours earlier.

He had not slept, not even for a minute, yet strangely, the pain was not explosive; it was quieter than that.

The kind of pain that settled deep inside a person and stayed there.

Fred enlarged the final photo slowly. Daniella’s face looked alive. Bright and Happy, he could not remember the last time she looked at him that way.

The realization hollowed something inside his chest. A soft sound interrupted the silence upstairs.

Daniella was awake.

Fred locked the phone immediately before leaning back against the couch.

A few moments later, she descended the staircase wearing one of his oversized shirts, her hair still messy from sleep. “Why are you awake so early?” she asked while walking toward the kitchen.

“I never slept.”

Daniella paused slightly at that. “Why?”

Fred looked at her for a long moment because part of him wanted to ask directly Did you enjoy being with him more than being with me?

But another part of him feared the answer too much. “Work,” he said finally.

Daniella relaxed slightly before opening the fridge. “You should stop stressing yourself over small things.”

Fred almost smiled at the irony. Small things, like watching your wife slowly emotionally drift toward another man, his gaze dropped briefly toward her phone resting beside the counter.

The screen lit up suddenly. Tony.

Daniella grabbed it too quickly, “I need to take this,” she said before walking toward the balcony.

Fred remained silent, but his silence felt heavier now, far heavier than usual.

Outside, Daniella lowered her voice immediately. “Why are you calling this early?”

Tony laughed softly through the phone. “Good morning to you, too.”

“You know Fred is home.”

“And?”

Daniella glanced nervously through the glass doors. “Tony.”

“What?” he asked smoothly. “I wanted to hear your voice.”

Her heartbeat betrayed her instantly. She hated that.

Hated how easily he still affected her. “You’re making this complicated.”

“No,” Tony murmured. “Your marriage already did that.”

Daniella closed her eyes briefly. Every conversation with him felt dangerous now, yet she still did not end the call.

Inside the penthouse, Fred watched her through the glass. He watched the faint smile she tried to hide. He watched her unconsciously play with her hair while listening. He watched the emotional intimacy growing right in front of him.

And for the first time in years, Fred felt genuinely helpless. He said nothing and went upstairs.

By afternoon, rumors had already begun spreading throughout Daniella’s company. Tony made sure of it.

He sat inside his luxury office suite downtown while a nervous junior employee from Daniella’s finance department sat across from him.

The young man swallowed hard. “I don’t understand what exactly you want me to say.”

Tony slid an envelope across the desk calmly. Inside sat more money than the employee earned in an entire year. “I’m simply asking for honesty.”

The employee hesitated.

Tony smiled patiently.

“People already notice things. Daniella carries the company alone while her husband contributes nothing. It’s obvious.”

The employee looked uncertain. “Mr. Morgan seems like a decent man.

“Decent?” Tony chuckled softly. “Decent doesn’t build empires.

His voice lowered slightly. “A woman like Daniella needs someone ambitious beside her. Someone powerful.”

He leaned forward. “So help people notice the truth.”

The employee stared at the money again, and slowly, his resistance disappeared.

Later that afternoon, Fred sat inside a quiet private lounge overlooking Victoria Island while Chris paced angrily nearby. “You’re still defending her?” Chris snapped.

Fred calmly stirred untouched coffee. “I’m not defending anyone.”

“Then explain why you look like a man waiting to be executed.”

Fred remained silent.

Chris cursed under his breath before dropping into the chair opposite him. “She’s hiding things from you, Fred.”

“I know.”

“She’s emotionally involved with another man.”

Fred’s jaw tightened almost invisibly.

Chris leaned forward. “And you’re still sitting here pretending patience will save your marriage.”

Fred finally looked up. “What do you want me to do?”

“Wake up.”

The words landed sharply.

Chris exhaled heavily before continuing more quietly. “You’re losing yourself trying to protect someone who doesn’t value you anymore.”

Fred looked away toward the ocean skyline because deep down, that was exactly what terrified him, not losing Daniella.

Losing the version of himself that still loved her despite everything

Chris studied him carefully. “You know what your problem is?”

Fred gave a tired smile. “Apparently, everyone does lately.”

“You made her your entire world.”

Chris shook his head slowly, “And people stop appreciating the sun when it shines on them every day.”

Silence followed.

Then Fred spoke softly. “I don’t know how to stop loving her.”

That answer frustrated Chris more than anger ever could because it sounded painfully genuine.

Meanwhile, Daniella sat inside her office with Tina while pretending to focus on paperwork, because her attention kept drifting toward her phone.

Toward Tony, toward the emotional chaos he had dragged back into her life.

Tina smirked knowingly from across the desk. “You’re smiling again.”

“I am not.”

“You absolutely are.”

Daniella sighed. “You’re becoming annoying.”

Tina laughed. “And you’re becoming obvious.”

Before Daniella could respond, two female employees passed outside the office glass walls, whispering to each other. “She deserves someone better, honestly.”

“I heard Fred doesn’t even have real investments.”

“Tony is way more impressive.“

Daniella frowned immediately. “What are they talking about?”

Tina shrugged casually. “People gossip.”

But Daniella’s irritation rose instantly because hearing strangers disrespect Fred unexpectedly bothered her. “He’s not useless,” she said sharply.

Tina raised an eyebrow.

Daniella continued defensively, “Fred has always supported me.”

“How?”

The simple question caught her off guard.

Daniella opened her mouth, then paused, because suddenly she struggled to explain it clearly, not because Fred had done nothing, but because most of what he did happened quietly. Invisible support, Invisible sacrifices, Invisible love. And maybe that was the problem.

Tina leaned back carefully. “See? That’s exactly my point.”

“No.” Daniella shook her head immediately. “You don’t understand him.”

Tina looked genuinely surprised now.

Because Daniella almost sounded emotional defending Fred. “He’s kind,” Daniella continued softly. “He remembers every little detail about me. Even when I forget myself.”

Her expression shifted slightly. “He’s patient in ways most people aren’t.”

Tina studied her closely. “Then why do you look happier around Tony?”

The question hit too directly, Daniella looked away immediately, and for the first time, she truly did not know the answer.

That evening, Tony hosted a private luxury gathering at an upscale rooftop lounge, with executives, Investors, and Media personalities. Exactly the kind of atmosphere Daniella thrived in.

Tony intentionally stayed close to her the entire night, always near enough to create whispers, always attentive enough to create comparisons.

Fred arrived nearly an hour later after Chris convinced him not to isolate himself.

The moment Fred entered the rooftop venue, several eyes turned toward him briefly before quickly losing interest. Simple black suit, Calm expression, and nothing flashy.

Besides Tony’s larger-than-life presence, Fred almost disappeared into the background.

Tony noticed immediately and smiled to himself.

Perfect, Everything was unfolding exactly as planned. Near the open bar, Daniella laughed softly at something Tony whispered.

Then, suddenly, Tony accidentally spilled red wine across the front of her dress.  “Oh damn,” he muttered quickly. “I’m sorry.”

Daniella gasped. “Tony!”

“Come on,” he said smoothly while taking her wrist. “There’s a private restroom upstairs.”

The timing was deliberate and well-calculated.

Tony led her upstairs moments before Fred finally reached the rooftop floor.

Chris immediately sensed something was wrong. “Where’s Daniella?”

Fred scanned the room quietly.

Then he noticed Tina nearby. “She went upstairs with Tony,” Tina answered before realizing how terrible that sounded.

Fred’s expression did not change, but something in the atmosphere shifted instantly, cold and Sharp.

Chris cursed under his breath. “I’ll kill him.”

Fred said nothing. He simply turned and walked toward the private upper floor. Each step felt heavier than the last.

Meanwhile upstairs, Daniella stood near the restroom mirror while Tony handed her napkins. “This is embarrassing,” she muttered while trying to clean the stain.

Tony stepped closer. “Relax. It’s just wine.”

“You planned this, didn’t you?”

His smile widened slightly. “What if I wanted a few minutes alone with you?”

Daniella looked at him through the mirror; the tension between them thickened dangerously.

Tony reached toward her gently and rested his hand against her waist. At that exact moment, the door opened. Fred walked in.

Everything froze.

Daniella’s eyes widened instantly. “Fred—”

She pushed Tony away immediately, but it was already too late because Fred had seen it.

Tony’s hand on her waist, the intimacy, the closeness.
