212 - NO WAY!
Sarah stood in the kitchen of her penthouse, staring at the trays of food on the counter. Cold bagels. Lukewarm coffee. Leftover fruit from yesterday, cut and rearranged on a silver platter. This was not what she wanted. “It’s fine,” she muttered to herself. “They’ll come for me, not the food.” Kara hovered in the corner, clutching a tablet. “Ms. Chen, the catering canceled. The payment didn’t go through.” Sarah’s eyes snapped to her, sharp and cold. “Shut up, Kara. It’s fine.” The penthouse was cold, the giant windows showing the gray city outside. The dining table was set with the best plates she had, but the cheap food looked out of place under the crystal chandelier. She adjusted the flowers in the vase, forcing them to look fuller than they were. Her phone buzzed. Damien’s name. She answered immediately. “Damien. I need you here,” she said quickly, tryin
211 - GROUNDED
Sarah walked through her penthouse, her heels clicking on the cold marble, the lights of the city blinking outside. She hadn’t slept in two days. Her phone was dead somewhere under a couch. She didn’t care.Kara trailed behind her, holding a list. “Ms. Chen, you need to approve the new strategy—”“No,” Sarah snapped. “We’re going to London. Call the jet.”Kara paused. “London?”Sarah turned, her eyes red, her hair messy. “There’s a conference. Deals. Investors. We fix everything.”At the private airport, Sarah stepped out of the black car, wearing dark glasses and a gray trench coat. Her lips were pale, but she lifted her chin as the cameras outside the terminal spotted her.“Sarah, are you fleeing the country?” a reporter shouted.Sarah ignored them, walking toward the private terminal doors as Kara rushed behind her with bags. Inside, the marble floors gleamed, quiet except for the low hum of private jets outside.
210 - PUBLIC HUMILIATION
Sarah stood in the makeup room, staring herself in the bright mirror lights. The artist was finishing the last touch on her eyeliner, her lips painted a perfect red. Her hair was smooth, falling down her shoulders like black silk. “This is it,” Sarah whispered. “Tonight, I fix everything.” Kara stood behind her, holding her phone, checking the schedule. “The host will bring you on in ten minutes.” Sarah nodded, lifting her chin. She had practiced her lines, her fake tears, and the soft smile she would give the camera. She would tell the world about her struggles and how she was rising stronger. The hallway outside was cold, the floors shining under the harsh lights. A producer waved Sarah toward the stage, her heels clicking on the floor as she walked. She held her clutch tightly, ignoring how her palms were sweating. She glanced at h
209 - RUINED GALA
Sarah stood in front of the mirror, adjusting the straps of her silver gown. Her hair was pinned perfectly, and her makeup was flawless, but her eyes looked tired. She forced herself to smile, checking it in the mirror, making sure it looked real. “Tonight is the night,” she whispered to herself. “We fix everything.” Kara peeked in, holding a clipboard. “Ms. Chen, the car is ready.” Sarah nodded, grabbing her clutch. She slipped on her diamond earrings, ignoring the pit in her stomach. She needed this night to go perfectly. --- The hotel lobby was bright, filled with the smell of expensive perfume and soft piano music. Guests in black suits and glittering dresses moved around, laughing and taking pictures. Influencers were already filming themselves in front of the gold Chen Industries banners. Sarah stepped out of the car, smiling as cameras
208 - ANOTHER TASTE OF FAILURE?
Sarah stepped out of the black car, the cold New York air hitting her skin as cameras flashed around her. She lifted her chin, letting her silk coat fall open just enough to show the deep blue designer gown beneath. The marble steps of the auction house glistened under the lights, lined with velvet ropes and eager influencers filming every moment.“Ms. Chen! Over here!” someone shouted.Sarah turned, smiling perfectly as she let them snap photos, her diamond earrings catching the light. Her phone buzzed in her clutch, but she ignored it, stepping forward into the warm glow of the auction hall.Tonight, she would show them. Chen Industries still stood.---Inside, the auction house smelled of polished wood and expensive perfume. Crystal chandeliers glittered above, lighting the rows of seats filled with billionaires, influencers, and art collectors in tailored suits and shimmering gowns.A massive painting stoo
207 - ANOTHER FAILURE
Sarah stood at the edge of the rooftop, looking out over the skyline, the lights blinking like tiny cameras watching her every move. Her black gown shimmered under the strings of gold lights, her makeup perfect, her hair pinned into an elegant twist. She breathed in, ignoring the twisting in her stomach. Tonight would change everything. She turned, scanning the rooftop venue filled with round tables draped in white, each with a single frosted bottle of her new perfume, Phoenix. Influencers moved around with ring lights, giggling, filming, posting stories. Waiters carried trays of champagne, the clinking of glasses mixing with the hum of rooftop heaters. Sarah’s lips curled into a confident smile. This was it. Her comeback. “Sarah, the press is ready,” Kara whispered, holding a clipboard with trembling hands. Sarah didn’t look at her, adjusting the diamond bracele
