Nathan was sprawled on his dorm bed, with his back rested on the headboard. He had his laptop on the bed just right before him. He had put it there in order to watch a movie, since after the movie night with Rene, it's been on his mind to watch a movie on his own since he had not done so for many years.

The room was quiet. He made sure to install noise cancelling pads on the wall, to block out the noise that could come from the other boys outside. The only noise he heard was the low hum of the

The volunteer orientation meeting ended with polite applause from the volunteers and every other person around. It was follower by the quiet shuffle of chairs as they were being pushed back by the workers. Most people lingered back, just looking aroud the place and spying from the top Cloven tower, at the test of the city, which spread marvelously below it.Some of them waited to shake Nathan’s hand, others waiter to sign up for specific committees. But Nathan stayed near the podium, his eyes scanning the room until they landed on Jude Fuller.Jude was already standing, adjusting his cufflinks, and preparing to leave. Nathan could not take it anymore, and so he decides to walk over to the man before he could slip away.“Jude," he said, standing just right behind him.Jude turned with an almost expectant expression on his face. “Mr. Rhodes.”Nathan was just a respectful distance away. He folded his arms across his chest and stood in a little bit of a standoffish posture.“What game

The conference room at Cloven Tower had been rearranged for the occasion. The long executive table was pushed to one side, and replaced by rows of simple chairs facing a low podium. A projector screen displayed the Project Kickstart logo. The logo was a stylized open hand reaching upward, with an open palm and its fingers gently curled. The room smelled faintly of fresh coffee and new carpet. The volunteers filled the seats. There were about thirty people in total. Some were students, some were professionals, a few were retirees. Among them sat Ava Cranks and Bella Moody side by side, both were dressed simple, with their eyes facing forward to the projector in front of them. Lila Chen, a beautiful and gracious businesswoman, the owner of Chen's Choices, sat a row behind, legs crossed, with a notebook on her lap. John Knowles and Albert Greene who were two of some of the first volunteers, sat near the back. Every one of the seven beautiful women was present: Chloe, Bella, Rene, Golden

The next morning Nathan sat in the executive conference room with David Brune and his assistant Sandra Ryan in Cloven Tower. A coffee sat by him, untouched, with his tablet open to a spreadsheet of volunteer applications for Project Kickstart. David Brune stood at the head of the table, reading aloud from the master list while Sandra Ryan who was Brune’s executive secretary, marked names on a digital board behind him.Sandra’s voice was professional as she mentioned the names of the volunteers. “…Lila Chen, Ava Cranks, Bella Moody, John Knowles, Genevieve Ruiz, and… Jude Fuller.”Nathan’s head snapped up immediately, almost as though he had just heard the name of the devil being mentioned. "What?"Brune and Sandra stared at him, motionless for a second."Repeat that last name you mentioned," he said.Sandra glanced at her tablet, then back at him.“Jude Fuller," he said. "He submitted his application yesterday evening. His identity is verified , and his background check is cleared

Jude Fuller’s office occupied the top floor of a limestone building on the Upper East Side of New York that was made before the First World War. Inside of it were dark oak panelings, and book shelves that stood from floor to ceiling packed with leather-bound law reports, and a a single tall window overlooking the street. The man like his room looking simple. The room smelled faintly of old paper and cedar. Jude sat behind a massive partner’s desk, reviewing a brief, when his secretary’s voice came through the intercom.“Mr. Fuller? You have a visitor. His name is Michael Lee. He says it’s urgent.”Jude’s pen paused as he was making his signature in ink. He recognized the name immediately. He was one those new money, young and loud, Lee siblings who had been making noise lately. He remembered that one of them sent him an invite once on some strange group. He pressed the button. “Send him in. I'll see him."The door opened a moment later. Michael stepped inside wearing a tailored

The lecture hall for Economics 402 was already half-full when Nathan walked in. He took his usual seat near the back, a third row from the window, with his hoodie up, and his notebook open but blank. The professor had announced that there would be a guest lecturer scheduled for today’s session on “The History of Economic Thought,” but the syllabus hadn’t named who it would be.Nathan stared around the place. He had created time out of his day to actually come here. He did not want it to be a mere waste of his time and effort. The door at the front opened up, and Jude Fuller stepped in.Nathan blinked. He wore a charcoal three-piece suit, with a pocket square perfectly folded, and cufflinks that made him look exactly like what one would imagine an aristocrat would look like. His posture was straight-backed, aristocratic, the kind of confidence that came from generations of inherited wealth and certainty. The room went immediately electric as the students all chimed in awe, bringing

Nathan was in the middle of a late morning workout in the townhouse gym when his phone buzzed on the bench. The place was a moderately large work out station designed to cater to the needs of physical wellbeing so one had all they needed there without going any place else.He was doing pull ups on the bar, with sweat dropping from his forehead to his clothe. He dropped down and wiped his face with a towel, and glanced at the screen. The call was from Glasgow Diner which was now his. It was the Manager, Mia. The one he had put there himself. He wondered why she was calling and picked up immediately.“Mr. Rhodes,” Mia’s voice came through, tense and shy. She had always been a meek girl. “Sorry to bother you, but here’s someone here. He wants to buy the diner, and he says his name is Jude Fuller. He’s… insistent.”Nathan grabbed his water bottle. “Jude Fuller?”“Yeah. He brought paperwork. There is a lot of Family history on it, which says his great-grandfather owned the original build
