The frantic crowd of students filled the library of Domain University and a thin-looking face with a resilient smile sat all alone at the desk, which housed a huge cake and a box of gift. He was Ethan Moneyfield. He had come to read a few books before going on his last errands for the day.
Ethan, the campus errand boy as popularly called, was a die-hard boy who had devoted his time to running errands for the rich chaps in their school just to earn a living. But however, most times it had gotten him into the net of bullies, who mistook his determination for weakness.
Ambitious to foot his bills, he rotated part time jobs and coupled with the peanuts he earned off errands, he could pay his school fees.
While he fixed his eyes on the book, he often consulted his watch, just to avoid being late for his last errand. Tonight was the engagement party of Jack, the richest student on campus. He had confided in Ethan and gave him the cake and the box of gift which he would give to his girlfriend at the engagement.
“Hey, dude.”
That was the voice of a tall, short-haired, guy with a conical face. He was Manuel, one of Ethan’s best pals.
They shook hands and he had a seat beside Ethan. “Have you heard about Jack’s engagement party?” he queried, his cheek curved in smiles.
“Are you still asking me that?” Ethan retorted and sighed, “It is already making the news,” he chirped and tossed his head, “He gave me this cake and box of gift to give his girlfriend tonight, I just can’t wait to get to the party.”
“I have already put on my dancing shoes,” Manuel shuffled his sneakers and Ethan smiled at him and shrugged, “I can’t wait to see who he is going to engage. You know Jack is the richest guy on campus so all the girls crave him.”
“Hey, except my girlfriend,” Ethan cautioned him, “Ella will never do such thing. She is not cheap and not easily moved by luxuries. The very reason I mad over her.”
“Oh is that what you think?” Manuel doubted and leaned to have a look at the box of gift. “Anyways, everyone knows Jack is in the eyes of every girl. They crave him for his money. Wow!” his eyes widened in shock. “This box of gift is worth $20000. Can you imagine that? Just a gift for a girl, hmmm?”
Ethan curved his lips considerably. “I know Jack is very rich. When I passed the continental hall I saw how decorated it was for the party.” A hush of silence hung over Ethan, “I pray someday I will make so much money to make Ella happy.”
While they chatted, a fat kid with long brown hair barged into the library and once he caught sight of them he rushed to their desk, “Hey, guys what’s up,” he shook hands with them and leveled his eyes on the cake and gift.
He was Allen, one of Ethan’s pals too, who was from the middle class but not as poor as Ethan. He shook hands with them and sat down pretty damn quick. “Hey guys have you heard?” he leaned forward.
“What?” Ethan widened his gaze at him, “Is it about tonight’s party?”
Allen clicked his fingers, “Definitely, So much love in the air.” he concurred and added, “How did you guys know about it? The engagement party is going to be lit. I also heard he is featuring a popular guest artist. Although, I don’t know him by name but there is going to be lot of fun.”
“Yeah,” Manuel shrugged, “That is the news making the round now, and we are already set for the party. As you can see Ethan has been hired by Jack to deliver some precious gift to his new girlfriend and sweet heart.”
“Hmm, he is not called the campus errand boy for nothing,” Allen chirped and they burst into a loud laugh.
Ethan winked once he cast a striking glance at his wrist watch, he affirmed, “Hey guys, is it not better we get down on time. The party starts at seven, and this is almost seven, and you know I have got a job to do so I must get down on time.”
Suddenly, Allen sized Ethan from head to toe, his broken shoes and torn T-shirt didn’t just fit the occasion and he was forced to ask. “Ethan, don’t tell me this is what you are going to wear to the party.”
Ethan grinned, excitement flashing across his face, as he sat down on the chair, exhaustion and frustration piling into his head.
“Come on, is anything wrong with what I am wearing?” he asked softly and stared at himself before snorting heavily, “This is what I can afford. And since it is a night party no one would notice it.”
Manuel tossed his head in pity. He knew how poor Ethan was and if he really had better cloths he would wear them rather than wear ill-fit ones. He patted Ethan on the shoulder. “Come on guys let’s go. I don’t want to be late. I really can’t wait to see the fortunate pretty girl.
They chirped and left the library.
Once they got to the party ground, the loud chants of; “Go baby! Go baby! Welcomed them and they hastened up to get into the hall. The chant thickened and got louder as they neared the entrance and the crowd of students and guests couldn’t even let them see what was ongoing in the middle.
Burrowing through the crowd, Ethan found his way in and was shocked to see Ella, being smooched and kissed by Jack while the crowd chanted on.
For a moment, his lips couldn’t even open to scream, his body shook, hands trembled with nervousness.
He gaped at them.
“Ella!” he yelled and the cake and gift left his hand and dashed on the floor,
The cord had stopped chanting and Ella and Jack had flinched from each other.
“What are you doing?” he fumed, “My girlfriend? Ella? Am I dreaming?” he rubbed his face.
“What the fuck are you asking, boy?” Jack snapped at him, “This is my girlfriend. Are you naught?”
“You know this is my girlfriend and you are proposing to her, huh!”
“Oh, keep shut and listen, you rotten maggot!"
Ethan lost his temper; he pounced on Jack like a cat.
“Pa! Po! Pa!”
He punched him and Jack staggered to the floor.

You have every right to remain silent else whatever you do or say will be used against you in the court of law!” the senior police took out a piece of handcuff and wanted to grip on his wrist.“I beg your pardon!” Jack stood in their way, stopping them from making any further move. “You can’t just barge into our mansion and place an arrest on my father. What did he do? I guess you know whose house you are in. This is Rex Arthur and I am his son…”“We know you, Jack. Your father has a question to answer to some allegations leveled against him. If you want to know his offense you may have to come with us to the station!” The senior police snapped. “I guess you don’t want to resist arrest, so lea

“I can’t believe you are here for another loan, Jack. What do you need 3 million dollars for? You are yet to pay up the ones you collected and you are demanding another.”The bank manager of Fortune Bank reprimanded Jack as he sat across the desk. After thinking out of the box, Jack’s thought fell back on Fortune Bank, where he had been accessing cheque to fund his luxurious lifestyle.“I have told you there is no cause for alarm and besides, you still have the documents to my forty acres of land. And did you just ask me what I need the money for?” Jack tossed his head, “I don’t need to give you updates about my status. You should know me. I spend more than 3 million in a few weeks. I have tasted money so you shouldn’t be asking me that.”“If you are just going to waste it, then there is no need giving you because it is baseless. Competing With Ethan
“Thank you so much Jack for your benevolence to the widow of Max,” Dr. Greg appreciated Jack while they sat in his office. “You and Ethan have been supporting the school and penning our name in a good light. We can’t thank you enough.”Jack let a weird smile. “As you can see I gave more money than him so there is no comparison. I made money before Ethan, and I supported and have supported the school more than him, so giving is no big deal to me. I will even do more. It is quite a pity that Mr. Max had to die untimely. It is not late to round up the serial killer, and I will see to it.” he tossed his head. “What a wicked world we live in.”Greg tossed his head, “Yeah I heard about your promise of 3 million to the police department if they should impound the culprit.” The VC stretched to have a warm handshake with him, “This is superb. Domain University has never stopped boasting of our two illustrious students, you and Ethan.”Jack had his shoulders in the sky; his head swelled with pr
