The System had just activated the trial period for the Appraiser's Eye Skill tonight. Now, Barra's vision functioned like a high-tier price scanner.
Every time he looked at a passing woman, a row of blue holographic numbers floated steadily above her head. He stared at a cafe waitress throwing away trash. The number 72 floated up. He passed a heavily made-up woman under a streetlight. The number 78 appeared briefly. "Seventy-eight?" Barra clicked his tongue. For a full hour he roamed the Western District. The highest charm score he found stopped at 81. It belonged to a college student waiting for a taxi at a bus stop. Barra lit a cigarette. He blew the smoke into the night air. "System," Barra called out cynically, "what is the standard for a ninety charm score?" "The evaluation is based on physical aesthetics, genetic harmony, and innate allure," the mechanical voice responded. Barra snorted roughly. "Don't make it complicated. Speak normally." "Absolute parameters include perfect facial symmetry, precise waist-to-hip ratio, and flawless skin." "So you only measure their breasts and asses?" Barra stepped on his cigarette butt. "Body proportions account for forty percent of the total overall score." Barra rubbed his stiff neck. "With that kind of scoring, a ninety is equal to world-class supermodel standards. How could a woman like that be roaming the slum streets of the Western District?" The timer showed less than thirty minutes left. His search distance had almost reached the maximum two-kilometer limit from his boarding house. "Damn it! Am I going to die tonight?" he grumbled inwardly. Barra's footsteps brought him into a dark parking lot behind a middle-tier nightclub. The muffled thumping of bass music could be heard through the thick concrete walls. Crash! The sound of a hard impact suddenly came from a narrow alley. Barra stopped walking. He sneaked closer and hid his body behind a brick wall. His sharp eyes peeked into the dimly lit alley. A woman was trapped there. Her back had just hit the wall. She was panting heavily, clutching a leather bag to her chest. Her white work shirt was dirty and dusty. The fabric on her left shoulder was torn open, revealing a dark bra strap. Two large men in black suits cornered her. They blocked the exit of the dead-end alley. The red holographic screen suddenly blinked in front of Barra's eyes. A sharp warning rang loudly. [Primary Target Found. Charm Score: 96.] [Target Condition: Sedative poisoning. Decreasing consciousness detected.] Barra stared at the large number. "Ninety-six," he muttered. No wonder her score was that high. Even with a dirty shirt and messy long hair, the woman possessed an aura of high-class elegance. Her face was a perfect oval with a sharp nose and naturally red, full lips. Her body was slender at the waist, yet her chest was full. Even in a state of panic, her allure could not be hidden. "Come with us right now!" the man said, his voice hoarse. The woman struggled with all her might. She hit the man's face with her leather bag, but her strength was too weak. Barra stepped out from behind the wall. He kicked an empty rusty soda can. Clang! The can hit the back of the second suited man. Both men turned and glared at Barra. "Who are you? Get out of here right now or you will regret it!" the first man threatened, releasing his grip on the woman. Barra casually put both hands in his pockets. He walked calmly toward the two thugs. "Let her go," Barra said dryly. The second man pulled out a folding knife. "We are working. You don't need to interfere if you don't want to die!" "I am working too," Barra replied flatly, pointing at the woman. "I am looking for a tenant for my boarding house, and I just found one." The first man lost his patience. "Ah, so noisy! I'll beat you up!" He lunged forward to close the distance, throwing a straight punch at Barra's jaw. Barra did not back down at all. Growing up and surviving on the harsh streets of Neva City's Northern District had forced him to learn mixed martial arts since middle school. Combined with his trained reflexes from underground boxing rings, this thug's movement felt slow to him. He tilted his head slightly to the left. Barra's left hand then moved incredibly fast, slipping under the opponent's defense. He heavily deflected the man's arm, then forcibly twisted his elbow joint upward. Crack! "Aaa..." The suited man screamed in pain. His large body immediately bent over because his arm was deadlocked. Barra pulled the man's suit collar downward. His right knee shot up mercilessly, hitting the opponent's solar plexus extremely hard. Thud! The man choked violently from a lack of oxygen. He vomited fresh blood mixed with saliva onto the asphalt. He collapsed instantly, his body convulsing before staying completely still. Barra shook his left hand to brush off the dirt. He stared straight at the second man who was frozen in shock. The second suited man stepped back slowly. The knife in his hand trembled. Seeing his partner fall in a matter of seconds made his courage shrink. He swallowed hard. "Our big boss won't let you off. Just get ready to die!" the man threatened as he prepared to run. The man ran headlong out of the dead-end alley toward the main road. Barra let him go. He did not care at all about the lackey's threat. He walked closer to the woman who was sitting weakly on the wet ground. The woman's back leaned helplessly against the cold brick wall. Her breathing sounded increasingly heavy and irregular. Barra stopped walking right in front of his target. His eyes stared flatly at the woman's pitiful condition. The woman looked up slowly. Her glazed look indicated the sedative effect was beginning to take over her brain nerves. She tried to slide her body backward, but was blocked by the wall. Her right hand blindly rummaged through her leather bag. "Don't you dare come closer," the woman hissed hoarsely, "or I will make sure this weapon kills you." Barra remained standing silently to observe. He did not see any shape of a weapon in the woman's weak hand. He bent his knees and squatted calmly in front of the woman. His rough hand reached out forward. "No need to threaten me," Barra said casually. "You were almost raped and killed in this dead-end alley." The woman stared at Barra's hand with her remaining consciousness. Doubt clearly covered her beautiful face. "Come with me if you still want to live," Barra continued convincingly. He threw a cynical smile. "But you have to pay rent. The f*e is three hundred dollars a month. You pay in full upfront." The woman's eyelids closed as she lost focus. She mustered her remaining strength just to reach Barra's rough hand. Their skin touched. The surface of the woman's hand felt cold. The System in Barra's head suddenly emitted a loud buzzing sound. [Critical Warning. Target consciousness level is dropping drastically and reaching the danger limit.] The woman lost consciousness and fainted forward.Latest Chapter

"Step back and do not leave this kitchen area!" Barra ordered without turning his head back at all.Valerie stopped her movement."You want to go out front alone? What if that gang of men with machetes comes again bringing more troops?" Valerie prevented him with a thick tone of worry."Exactly because of that, you must stay here. Lock the door from the inside and turn off this light," Barra answered."Do not die foolishly out there, Barra," Valerie said softly, half-whispering, squeezing the edge of her shirt."Dying is not part of my plan tonight," the man replied flatly, stepping away. The well-built man stepped quickly down the pitch-black long hallway."System, calculate the number of enemies outside," Barra ordered.[Scanning obstructed by local storm interference. Chapter 13
Barra stared through the panic in the beautiful woman's eyes, confused about what to explain. He took a deep breath. "Do not overthink it. I called a friend earlier to buy this furniture. Those couriers are human, they just work specifically for my friend's store," Barra said, making up a casual excuse.Valerie frowned. "When did you call?""When you were busy grumbling," Barra answered.Valerie scrutinized his expression, looking for a lie. However, Barra's face was entirely unreadable. She looked back at the corner of room number two. The previously dusty, cracked space now looked much better. She stared at Barra with growing awe."You have weird logistics connections for a rundown boarding house owner," Valerie muttered, crossing her arms.Barra did not reply.Valerie approached the dressing table to check its varnish. Suddenly, a transparent blue screen blinked before Barra's eyes.[Emergency Renovation Mission Complete!][Room Number Two Status: Livable Level 1.][Can

Barra wiped the sharp gravel shards from the wall hole's edge with the back of his hand.He shifted his large body closer to the brick wall, blocking Valerie's view as she tried peeking from behind."Go back to painting the wall, Miss Sinclair," Barra scolded, turning his head briefly with a warning look."Do you think I am stupid? You are hiding something in that hole," Valerie retorted suspiciously. The woman crossed her arms, refusing to step back.Barra ignored her protests completely. His focus was entirely on the black steel safe inside the wall. The safe's rust-free surface indicated expensive high-grade steel. The digital keypad on the door blinked slowly with a dim red light."System, help me check this safe," Barra ordered inwardly.A bright blue light shot from his pupils, scanning the dusty metal buttons from close range. A transparent information screen appeared seconds later.Faded reddish fingerprint traces appeared clearly under the invisible light. The finge

Barra stared at the blinking System notification screen. Two choices appeared in his head. He could let his body weaken from blood loss, or obey the System's strange order.Barra made his decision. He pulled Valerie closer in one jerk."Hey! What are you doing?!" Valerie protested, eyes wide. She fell onto Barra's broad chest. The beautiful woman struggled softly, trying to break free. Pressing her elbows into the mattress, Valerie supported her weight to avoid crushing him."Take your hands off my waist right now, Barra!" Valerie raised her voice. "Do not make me scream!""Be quiet and stay still. I just need warmth to stabilize my heartbeat," Barra replied flatly, holding her with his right hand.Valerie's exposed stomach directly touched Barra's abdominal muscles. Warmth flowed constantly between their skin. A thin golden light radiated from their touch, creeping up Barra's ribs and slowly closing the torn flesh on his left shoulder.Valerie's face instantly turned red fro

Barra's calf muscles tensed sharply. He accidentally maximized the twenty percent physical enhancement effect from the System fully across his entire neural network."Talk too much!" Barra cut in flatly with a dismissive look in his eyes.He kicked the half-full paint bucket lying right near the tip of his left knee hard. The thick white liquid flew, hitting the scarred man's face squarely."Argh! My eyes! Damn it!" the man screamed in pain. The scarred man instantly let go of his machete in a panic. He staggered backward hitting his partner while rubbing his face covered in thick paint.Barra did not waste that opportunity. There was an open gap to be exploited. He rolled forward. His right hand picked up the steel machete that just fell near his shoe."Now it is my turn!" Barra said rising on one knee.He swung the machete hard. He slashed the ankles of two other attackers in one full rotation."My leg! Bastard, my leg is cut off!" the stocky attacker screamed hysterical

They entered the boarding house. Their footsteps stomped roughly at the same time along the corridor. They simultaneously raised their steel machetes straight ahead, aiming at Barra's chest without the slightest hesitation."System, can you find the weaknesses of these five bastards?" Barra asked in his head. The holographic blue screen buzzed softly and projected data right in front of his retinas.[Scanning five targets...][Target 1 (Scar): High agility, poor balance on the left leg. Weapon: Carbon Steel Machete.][Target 2: Short body posture, focused attacks from the enemy's blind spot. Swing strength below average.][Target 3: Tanker type. Dense muscle mass, slow movement. Vital point exposed on the right stomach.][Target 4 & 5: Support positions in the back row, low awareness level.]Barra smiled. Now he already pocketed the list of the enemies' weaknesses and strengths. So, there was no reason to be nervous. He stared sharply at them, then slid his right foot backw
