The forest was cold. Trees stood tall and still, like quiet guards watching from the dark. Fog crawled between their roots.

Oliver ran through it. Mud clung to his boots. Leaves scratched his arms and face. But he didn’t stop. He held Emery tightly, her breathing shallow, her skin burning with fever.

His heart pounded hard. Not from fear, but from the memory of Wren.

Wren, who had stayed behind. Wren, who had screamed. Wren, who had fought the monsters so they could escape.

And now she was gone.

“Just a little more,” Oliver whispered to Emery. “We’re almost safe.”

But even he didn’t believe that.

Behind them, the forest growled.

Branches snapped.

Something was coming.

Then, the air changed. A soft light blinked behind Oliver’s eyes. Like a spark in the dark. A voice, not loud, not soft, spoke deep inside him.

System awakening...

Oliver walked alone. His boots hit the cold stone floor with soft thuds. The hallway was dark and quiet, but not in a peaceful way. The ground felt wet, like it had been crying. Every step left a faint echo, as if the past was whispering behind him.He stopped. The light around him dimmed, like the world itself was holding its breath. Then came the words, soft, but deep, as if spoken by the air itself.“Harmony Trial Four Initiated: Grief.”“Guardian: The Mourning Choir.”“Format: Multiphase Encounter Internal Fragmentation.”“Objective: Reclaim all pieces of self.”Oliver blinked. Suddenly, he was no longer in the stone hallway. He stood inside a long, white corridor. It stretched out in every direction, left, right, forward, backward, with no end, no corners, no doors except for the ones right beside him. Each door had a name on it. Each name was his. He stepped closer.OLIVER. The One Who QuitOLIVER. The One Who FailedOLIVER. The One Who Survived AloneHis hands trembled as he

Fragments of the old System, born from its collapse. Each one had claimed part of the world, molding it to their own rules. The entrance wasn’t marked. No gates. No path. No sign. Only a note.It drifted on the wind, faint, raw, aching. A single pitch that resonated not in the ear, but deep inside the bones. Oliver heard it in his chest. So did Mina.“This is it,” he whispered.“The song that never ends,” she said.Together, they followed it. The moment Mason crossed the gates of Argent Academy, something felt… wrong. The air was too still. Not quiet, Argent was never quiet, but stiff, like the grounds themselves were holding their breath. Students bustled between classes, robes fluttering, wands at their hips, laughter echoing in the courtyards. It looked normal. But Mason could feel it. Underneath the surface. Something had shifted.Norra walked beside him, her hood low. She hadn’t said much since they left Virell’s Hollow, and Mason hadn’t pushed. Whatever she faced during her trial had left a scar he couldn’t yet see. John had returned to his family estate under a secrecy pact. He didn’t want his bloodline tied to Vazquez publicly.Mason understood. He didn’t want his name tied to the suit either. They passed the east tower, where duels were held. A small crowd was gathered around a chalk-drawn ring. Two second-years were sparring, their magic crackling in the air.Mason glanced over, and froze. Standing just beyond t
