A rush of cold, stale air blew into the pristine vault. Beyond the doors was a dark, square tunnel made of smooth, ancient gray stone. The tunnel was wide enough for a wagon to drive through. It was perfectly straight, sloping gently downward into the pitch-black shadows. "Let's go," Frank said. He stepped over the threshold, walking out of the safe, quiet vault and into the dark tunnel. Elara followed right beside him, holding her chipped dagger. The forty refugees marched closely behind them, their boots echoing loudly against the smooth stone floor. As they walked down the dark tunnel, Frank kept his eyes on the minimap in his vision. The map showed their position as a small, glowing blue dot. The blue dot moved slowly along the bright green path, heading steadily toward the massive vertical tube of the Ascension Shaft. It was peaceful. It was quiet. The tunnel was completely empty. There were no bone-spiders on the ceiling. There were no stone golems waiting in the shadows.
