Chapter 31

"I trust you," Karvel began, his voice low but firm, "but I can’t just stand here and watch while your family humiliates me. They’ve been doing it since the day we got married, and I’m fed up. I’ve swallowed enough of their insults to last a lifetime." He shook his head, a bitter smile curling at the edge of his lips. "Anyway… let’s talk about something else before I say something we’ll both regret."

Elena stepped closer, searching his face for a crack in his resolve. "I’m sorry if my father got you angry," she said softly, her fingers brushing his arm in an attempt to soothe him. "You don’t have to stress yourself over their words. They don’t define you, Karvel. I can’t—" she hesitated, her voice trembling slightly, "—I can’t divorce you just because they want me to. That’s not how I live my life."

He looked away, jaw tightening, as if bracing himself for the next wave of disapproval from her family.

"I married you," Elena continued, her eyes locking on his with quiet dete

Sarah’s sharp laughter rang out from behind, echoing through the hallway like a mocking bell. Elena stiffened but did not turn immediately. She knew that laugh too well—it always carried spite.Sarah walked closer, her heels clicking loudly against the marble floor, each step deliberate as though she wanted the whole world to hear her arrival. She stopped right in front of Elena, folding her arms with a smug smile plastered on her face."This is very sweet," Sarah sneered, tilting her head. "Did you really think curling up to Grandma would suddenly make her love you? Dream on, my dear cousin. You’ll always be nothing more than the unwanted one in this family. If you know what’s good for you, you’ll hand the company back to Grandma before it’s too late."Elena raised an eyebrow, her lips curving into a small smile though her eyes stayed sharp. "And what exactly would you gain if I returned the company to her? Tell me, Sarah, what’s in it for you?"Sarah’s expression hardened, and she s

The room stayed silent for a long moment. Every pair of eyes was fixed on the flash drive lying in the middle of the polished table. Finally, Robert, cleared his throat."If what he says is true," Lewis muttered, adjusting his glasses, "then we should at least verify it. We can’t risk making decisions based on rumors."Richard narrowed his eyes but snatched the flash drive from the table. He passed it to the company’s IT head, a quiet man who had been sitting at the far end of the boardroom with his laptop. "Check it," Richard ordered coldly. The IT head plugged the flash drive in, his fingers moving quickly across the keyboard. The screen projected onto the wall lit up with the images everyone had already seen online—the pictures of Karvel with another woman, her face close to his, their bodies angled as if caught in an intimate moment. Gasps echoed around the room."See?" Richard said sharply. "This is the disgrace we’re talking about—""Wait," the IT head interrupted, his voice cal

"What are we going to do now, Karvel? I can’t let this ruin my work," Elena said, her voice trembling with frustration as she paced around the office. Her hands were shaking slightly, and she kept glancing at the files scattered across her desk.Suddenly, the office phone rang loudly, cutting through the tension in the room. Elena rushed over and picked it up right away."What happened?" she asked sharply. On the other end, her secretary’s voice came through, a little nervous. "Ma’am, there’s an emergency board meeting scheduled in the next ten minutes."Elena froze, her eyes widening. "What! Who called this board meeting?" she demanded angrily, gripping the phone tighter."I—I don’t know yet, ma’am. But all the directors are already being informed," the secretary replied quickly.Elena ended the call with a deep sigh and dropped the receiver back on the desk. She sank into her chair, resting her forehead on her hand. Her heart was beating fast, and she whispered to herself, "This can

Chapter 47“Then maybe you should ask the person who sent you those photos to explain them to you,” Karvel said bitterly, his tone edged with frustration. His eyes burned with a mixture of anger and pain as he looked at her. “Since you don’t trust me, I guess you’ve already chosen to believe what you see.”Elena’s chest rose and fell rapidly, her voice shaking with fury. “Do you expect me not to believe what’s right in front of my eyes? These pictures don’t lie, Karvel!”Karvel stepped closer, his hands tightening into fists at his side, his voice firm but desperate. “No, Elena. You didn’t see anything with your own eyes you saw what someone wanted you to see. Those pictures are fake. They’re not real. They’re AI-generated images, doctored to look like me. I swear to you, this isn’t me with another woman!”Elena’s laugh was sharp, hollow. She picked up one of the photographs from the desk and waved it in front of him. “This isn’t you? This face, this body, this man who looks exactly l

Chapter 46Elena’s chest tightened as her eyes lingered on the message. The words pierced deeper than she expected, cutting through her composure. For a long moment, she couldn’t breathe. Her gaze shifted slowly to the scattered photos on her desk, each one a silent weapon pointed directly at her.If those images leaked to the board members, everything she had worked for could collapse overnight. She could already imagine the whispers, the questioning looks, the smug satisfaction of those waiting for her downfall. Not only would her reputation shatter, but her authority as a leader would be stripped away piece by piece.“No…” she muttered under her breath, shaking her head fiercely. “I won’t let this happen.”But even as she said it, doubt gnawed at her. The sender wasn’t bluffing—they had planned this carefully, sending the package, the photos, the perfectly timed messages. Whoever it was had studied her, knew her weaknesses, and knew exactly where to strike. Her hands trembled as sh

Elena walked briskly down the hallway, her heels clicking against the polished marble floor, each step echoing her urgency. She didn’t even glance at the employees who politely greeted her as she passed; her mind was too clouded with anticipation. Reaching her secretary’s office, she pushed the door open.“Good day, ma’am,” the secretary greeted quickly, straightening in her seat.Elena gave a brief nod, her tone calm but firm. “Where’s the package?”The secretary, who had clearly been expecting the question, bent down and retrieved a neatly wrapped parcel from the drawer. She handed it over with both hands, almost as though it carried more weight than it seemed.“Thank you,” Elena muttered, her voice low, almost distracted. Her eyes lingered on the plain wrapping for a moment before she took it.Clutching the package tightly, Elena turned and walked swiftly toward her office. She shut the door behind her and dropped into her chair, her fingers brushing along the edges of the package
