The Black Citadel trembled.

Dust drifted from the ancient ceiling as another heavy blow echoed from beyond the obsidian gate.

BOOM!

The eight chains binding the gate shone brightly.

Seven crimson.

One black.

The black chain flickered uncertainly.

Emperor Malachar stood alone before the gate.

He slowly removed his black crown and placed it upon the stone floor.

For a moment...

He looked less like an emperor...

And more like a tired man carrying an impossible burden.

“I know you’re awake.”

A deep chuckle echoed from behind the gate.

“Of course I am.”

The voice was calm.

Ancient.

Far more terrifying than Nerath’s.

“You are growing weaker, Malachar.”

The Emperor remained silent.

“Your son has abandoned you.”

Silence.

“The Blood Sovereign has learned your secret.”

Still...

Malachar did not answer.

The voice laughed.

“Tell me...”

“Was it worth sacrificing your own name?”

The Emperor finally spoke.

“If the world survives...”

“Then history can hate me forever.”

The creature behind the gate fell quiet.

Then it whispered,

“You sound exactly like King Aetherion.”

Malachar’s eyes widened.

For the first time in years...

Someone had spoken that forgotten name.

“You have no right to mention him.”

The creature laughed again.

“Your friend would disagree.”

Malachar’s fists clenched.

His friend.

King Aetherion.

The last Blood Sovereign.

Kael’s father.

Far away, the silver eagle flew toward the floating fortress of the Celestial Kingdom.

No one had spoken since reading the Third Sovereign’s letter.

Kael stared at the clouds below.

His thoughts refused to settle.

“If Malachar isn’t the true enemy...”

“Then why did he kill my parents?”

Selene sighed.

“That’s the question we all need answered.”

Prince Kaelor sat alone at the edge of the eagle’s back.

He looked broken.

“My father...”

“He used to tell me stories.”

Everyone looked toward him.

“He said there was once a king who would gladly die for a single stranger.”

“I thought he was talking about himself.”

Kaelor laughed bitterly.

“But now...”

“I think he was talking about your father.”

Kael remained silent.

Caelan crossed his arms.

“Then someone has been lying.”

Elara nodded.

“And whoever it is has manipulated history for nearly twenty years.”

By sunset, the floating fortress came into view.

The Celestial Citadel floated high above the clouds.

Countless waterfalls poured from its edges into the empty sky before vanishing into mist.

Golden bridges connected towering white castles.

Thousands of winged beasts circled peacefully overhead.

Kael stared in amazement.

“I’ve never seen anything like this.”

Selene smiled.

“Welcome...”

“...to Skyhaven.”

As the eagle landed, hundreds of Celestial Knights saluted.

Their commander stepped forward.

An elderly man with snow-white hair bowed respectfully.

“General Selene.”

She returned the bow.

“Marshal Orion.”

The old man’s eyes settled on Kael.

“So...”

“The last Blood Sovereign has finally come home.”

Kael frowned.

“Home?”

Orion nodded.

“There is something your father entrusted to us.”

He turned.

“Follow me.”

Deep beneath the floating city...

Hidden behind twelve enchanted doors...

Lay the Celestial Archive.

Millions of ancient books filled endless shelves.

Crystal orbs floated through the air, illuminating forgotten knowledge.

Orion stopped before a massive stone pedestal.

Upon it rested a long wooden box sealed with crimson wax.

“The day your father visited Skyhaven...”

“He left this behind.”

“He said it must never be opened...”

“...unless his son survived.”

Kael slowly reached toward the seal.

The moment his fingers touched it—

The wax melted.

The lid opened by itself.

Inside lay a magnificent sword.

Its blade was silver.

Its edge glowed crimson.

Unlike the Blood Sovereign Blade...

This weapon had been forged by human hands.

A small parchment rested beneath it.

Kael unfolded it carefully.

It read:

«My son,

If this sword has reached you, then I was unable to keep my promise.

You may one day hear terrible things about me...

...and about Malachar.

Believe neither completely.

Truth has two faces.

This sword is called Dawnbreaker.

It was forged by Malachar and gifted to me on the day we swore brotherhood.

Remember this above all else...

The man you seek to avenge...

...once loved the man you seek to destroy.»

Kael’s hands trembled.

The sword nearly slipped from his grasp.

His father...

And Malachar...

Had once been brothers in all but blood.

Outside the archive, a deafening alarm suddenly echoed across Skyhaven.

WHOOOOOOM!

Red warning crystals lit up across the floating fortress.

A Celestial Knight burst through the doors.

“Marshal Orion!”

“The northern sky has opened!”

“What?”

“A massive Abyss Rift!”

“It’s larger than anything we’ve ever recorded!”

Orion’s expression hardened.

“Where?”

The knight swallowed.

“Directly...”

“...above the Imperial Capital.”

At that same moment, across the continent, every person looked toward the heavens.

The clouds over the Black Citadel split apart.

A colossal black vortex appeared, stretching from the earth into the stars.

And from within the vortex...

A gigantic golden eye slowly opened.

It was not Nerath.

It was not the being behind the Eighth Seal.

It was something far older.

Something that had been watching the world since before history began.

Its gaze settled upon Kael.

Then, for the first time in countless ages...

It smiled.
