Chapter 1

ALEJANDRO was very busy looking at his monitor screen. He was busy making a proposal for a new advertisement and he's very keen upon making each detail. He's almost done and almost reaching the peak of his proposal; and very into it when his seatmate Jero makes a loud noise, like he was shocked and he even tries to call his attention. He was startled and took a glance at his co-worker, Jero. His eyebrows meet when he sees Jero's expression.

"What's wrong with you? What happened?" Alejandro asked.

Jero then glided the wheel of his swivel chair to get close to him and he was holding his cellphone.

"Look bro, have you seen this?"Jero said as he showed him his phone.

His eyebrows met again and looked at the screen of his phone. He has seen a live telecast on a famous app called Tok Tok. The videographer shows a luxurious mansion. His eyebrows raised.

"What is that all about? What's the fuss?" he asked then he focused himself looking at the monitor again.

"Don't you use social media bro? It's all over on my feed. The son of our CEO of our advertisement company is going to propose to Helena."

Helena Chen is the most beautiful girl working in their company and he really knows her aside from being their executive director.

Alejandro was very shocked. He was lost for some words and his mind was still processing everything that he had just heard.

Helena is his secret girlfriend. They went to the same college before. They were very much in love with each other. And when he first got a job and joined J & J Corp—one of the largest advertising companies in the world; Helena asked to be with him so they could still see each other every day. So Alejandro decided to help her to get in the company as well. But then when Helena was finally hired to get into the company, she warned him not to tell anyone about their relationship. He was confused why but Helena explained to him that she didn't want any trouble at work and she reasoned out that it's forbidden to have a relationship with a coworker. He was hesitant to agree at first but in the end, he obliged because he loves Helena that much and he can do anything for her. And it didn't stop Alejandro from showing his love despite the secrecy of their relationship. He was saving for their future too and he didn't want to lose his job. He even wanted to propose to Helena, the very soonest.

"Bro, are you alright?"Jero asked him. He didn't answer him but he just slightly nodded his head. Alejandro was still feeling so confused at this moment and his anger is starting to build up in his whole body system.

"You know what Alejandro, this luxurious mansion is superb! This is called EL Paraiso, and this place is very quite expensive. I guess it cost sixty grand just for one night and one meal could cost maybe twenty grand too. Not sure about the exact price though. And Helena might definitely say yes to Mr. Chan. Everyone in this company knows that they really have something between them and this live video tells the truth," Jero said.

Alejandro closed his fists. He feels so worried, confused and angry. His forehead was sweating as cold as ice. He's feeling helpless at this moment but he was firm enough that Helena wouldn't betray him. She loved him but he was afraid if this thing he had seen was true.

He left his proposal and turned to the website Tok Tok. He watched the live video and he saw how luxurious the place was; and the decorations were lavish. He clenched his jaw because of frustrations. He grabbed his phone and was about to call his girlfriend Helena but he was taken aback when he heard Helena voice in the background on the live video. The front camera then turned to Mr. Chan and Helena.

Alejandro saw Helena kiss their CEO, Mr. Chan and that kiss was very passionate and full of love. Alejandro's world turns upside down upon seeing his woman in the video, having an affair with their boss.

"No! It can't be!" Alejandro blurted out. Jero then looks at him with confusion.

"What do you mean it can't be?

"Helena can't marry Mr. Chan!" he firmly said.

"What? Well if you're gonna ask me, I don't see any reason why she can't marry Mr. Chan. She's successful, and obviously Mr. Chan is the most suitable husband for a woman like her," Jero stated.

Alejandro felt like he was punched in his chest. His heart crashed inside and he immediately stood up.

"I need to go," he said as he grabbed his motorbike key.

"Wait! Where are you going?" Jero asked.

"I'm going to that damn place. I'm going to stop them!"Jero's jaw dropped.

"What!? Are you out of your freaking mind?"

Alejandro didn't listen to Jero. He rushed to the elevator. He even heard Jero call his name but he didn't bother to take a glance at his friend.

In an act of exasperation, he pressed the button for the lower floor of the building. When he was at the parking lot, he immediately rode on his motorbike.

While he's on the road. His mind was filled with so many thoughts. He wanted to see Helena at this very moment. He will go to EL Paraiso and to witness for himself that Helena is just kidding. That she will never marry Mr. Chan because he was her real boyfriend. But on the other side of his mind, he wanted her to tell him why she had betrayed him and why she had done that. Why did Helena toss him aside like he was garbage? Is she truly planning to treat him like this? How could she ruin their relationship? How could she throw his love that easily? Is it because he can't provide anything she wants? But he knows Helena very well, she's not a golddigger. He can think straight right now and one sentence is spinning around in his head. What about his love now?

Chapter 24The first time Alejandro saw the new prisoner up close, it was in the yard. His name is Vargas, and he didn’t look like a man trying to keep his head down. He stood with a group of guards, laughing like he owned the place. His presence was loud, magnetic even, pulling the curious and the dangerous alike into his orbit. Tattoos coiled up his neck, faded and old gang markings mixed with military symbols Alejandro recognized from a past life.Rocco muttered from his side. “That’s not the walk of a man who’s done time. That’s the walk of a hunter.”Alejandro didn’t answer. He watched as Vargas lit a cigarette offered by a guard, too friendly, too familiar and scanned the yard with the eyes of a predator. Those eyes locked onto Alejandro like crosshairs. Then Vargas smiled. It wasn’t the grin of an ally. It was a promise.THAT night, Alejandro stayed awake. Every creak of the cell block felt louder. The scrape of boots against concrete. The low hum of whispers. He’d survived one

Chapter 23The days inside the prison grew darker, not because the lights dimmed, but because the eyes around Alejandro sharpened. Trust was a rare currency in jail, and Alejandro had run out of it the moment news about his betrayal to Diego reached the wrong ears.Alejandro had always been a man of instinct. He knew how to read people—the twitch of an eye, the sudden silence of a room, the way someone gripped their utensils during lunch. Lately, he noticed the change. The shift. People didn’t just avoid him now. They studied him.Conversations stopped when he entered the mess hall. Inmates who once nodded in greeting now turned their backs. It wasn’t fear he saw in their eyes. It was a calculation. Like they were measuring him. Weighing him. Waiting. He sat at lunch beside Rocco, the only person who still gave him the time of day. Rocco had been inside for years. He knew how the system worked. How things moved under the surface.“You feel it too?” Alejandro asked without looking at h

Chapter 22The prison yard was sweltering under the afternoon sun, but Alejandro didn’t feel the heat. His mind was racing.Every breath, every step, was calculated now. He wasn’t just surviving—he was plotting.Three days had passed since the letter was smuggled out. Three days of waiting for a sign, any sign, that Mateo’s sister had received the message. That the ledgers—the proof—were real and intact.Rocco joined him by the fence, casually handing him a packet of stale crackers as cover. “She got it,” he muttered under his breath. “The package is safe.”Alejandro’s fingers tightened around the plastic. “And she’s willing to talk?”“Scared, but yes. She wants immunity before handing over anything.”Alejandro nodded. “We can work with that. All we need is someone on the outside with a spine.”“Easier said than done,” Rocco said grimly. “Diego’s reach is long. Even the damn guards here act like they owe him favors.”“I don’t need a whole army,” Alejandro said, his voice low. “Just on

Chapter 21DAYS passed, maybe weeks. The concrete walls didn’t bother counting.Alejandro had stopped marking time. The calendar on the wall remained untouched. Meals came and went. Guards rotated. The lights never really turned off. But he was no longer sitting still. He had begun to listen. The inmates around him weren’t saints—thieves, smugglers, con artists—but they talked. And when Alejandro listened, he started to hear patterns. Names. Events. Whispers about politicians, bribes, and shady deals—including some too familiar to ignore.“Diego Chan?” one inmate said one evening while playing cards. “That guy’s everywhere. His company’s got half the justice system in their pocket.”Alejandro stiffened from where he sat nearby.“You know him?” he asked casually. The guy—lean, tattooed, mid-forties—looked over at him. “Why? You got beef with Diego?”Alejandro smirked bitterly. “Something like that.”The man, whose name was Rocco, leaned in. “You’re Alejandro Garcia, aren’t you?”Alejan

Chapter 20The metal clanked behind him— the cell door closing once again with that familiar, punishing finality.Alejandro sat on the edge of the cold steel bench, staring at the cracks in the concrete floor. His fingers trembled as he gripped the edge of his seat, blood pounding in his ears. The walls around him felt smaller by the hour. His thoughts spiraled, desperate for a lifeline. He had one hope left.“Please,” he said to the officer. “Just one phone call.”The officer stared at him for a beat too long, then handed him the receiver.Alejandro’s hands were shaking as he dialed. One number after another—lawyers he had worked with, friends in legal circles, even old clients.Straight to voicemail. Another number. Then another. Some didn’t answer. Others hung up the second they heard his voice. The last one—a respected attorney he’d known since his first year in the industry— didn’t even let him speak.“Don’t ever call me again, Alejandro,” the man said coldly. “Whatever you’re in

Helena’s always been ruthless, but this... this is something else.” “Could it be Lorenzo!? Or Marina!?” Jero added.“I think it's Marina. Lorenzo will not betray us.”“Fuck that bitch!” Jero cursed.Alejandro closed his eyes. He felt hollowed out— betrayed not just by Helena and Diego, but by the system that had swallowed him whole without a second thought. How did he not see this coming?AT THE station, Alejandro was booked, fingerprinted, and thrown into a holding cell. The fluorescent lights buzzed overhead, harsh and unforgiving. He sat on the hard bench, the cold metal of the handcuffs biting into his wrists.Time stretched, slow and cruel.News of his arrest exploded across social media and news channels.
