While the house churned with noise—raised voices, hurried footsteps, doors opening and slamming—Rico lay still on his bed, staring across the room. The sounds barely registered. They felt distant, fragmented, as if they belonged to another world, one he had already stepped out of, a world he no longer wished to inhabit.

His eyes remained fixed on the small cooler at the foot of the bed.

It sat there quietly, unassuming in shape and size, yet it pressed on him like a weight he couldn’t shake. Every time his gaze fell on it, a tightness coiled in his chest, insistent and unyielding. It was more than curiosity—it was a premonition, a bodily warning that something significant lingered within.

His blood. The very blood he had willingly given to save Eliron’s life now rested inside that cooler, glowing faintly, innocently almost. Yet the sight twisted something deep inside him—a swirl of unease, fear, and an anger that hadn’t yet burned itself out.

It was the blood Zaya had brough

“You should let me out of here,” Rico said, forcing his voice to remain steady even though his heart was already racing. The words echoed faintly in the enclosed space, sounding smaller than he intended. A rough fabric was pulled down over his head almost immediately, the material scraping against his skin before settling tightly around his face. Beneath it, a blindfold pressed uncomfortably against his eyes, sealing him into complete darkness. The sudden loss of sight made his stomach clench violently. He inhaled sharply, the air around him thick with unfamiliar smells—dust, sweat, and something metallic that made his throat tighten. Rico shifted instinctively, his body reacting before his mind could catch up. The movement sent a sharp sting through his wrists as the ropes tightened further, biting into his skin. He sucked in a breath and forced himself to stop struggling. Panic would only make things worse. Somewhere nearby, one of the men chuckled quietly, the sound dripping

  • Chapter One Hundred and Fifty - Three

Melinda immediately brought out her phone, fingers trembling slightly as she tapped the message to her mother: Mum, this is more serious than we thought. There’s something else going on. Her pulse had sped up the moment the thought entered her mind. She couldn’t shake the feeling that something wasn’t right, that the words she’d just overheard hinted at danger beyond their casual chatter. “What are you typing?” Sonia’s voice cut through her racing thoughts. She blinked up at Melinda, half-drowsy, her words slurred slightly. “Are you… sending someone what we said here?” Melinda froze for a heartbeat, her chest tightening. She felt her stomach twist with guilt and fear. What if Sonia really suspected something? What if her message set off alarm bells? She forced herself to swallow, to steady her voice. “Of course not,” she said immediately, forcing a casualness into her tone that she did not feel. She hoped it was convincing. She had to be convincing. “I was just joking,” Sonia sai

Melinda noticed it almost immediately. The way the room felt slightly off, like the air had thickened without warning. Laughter still floated around them, music still played softly in the background, and glasses still clinked against one another, but something beneath it all had shifted. It was the kind of shift that came before a confession or a breakdown. “You wanted to say something earlier,” Melinda said, breaking the noise gently. Her voice was calm, casual enough not to alarm anyone, but her eyes were sharp as they moved between the women gathered in the living room. “That is why you asked us all to come together, isn’t it?” she added, as though the thought had only just occurred to her. Vanessa burst into laughter immediately, the sound too loud and a little unsteady. She lifted her glass again, even though it was already empty. “Yes, that is true,” Vanessa replied, her words slightly slurred. “God, I am so drunk.” She laughed again, swaying on the couch as she leaned back

Rico had left Silverline Logistics with a heaviness he couldn’t shake. The city’s skyline blurred behind him as he drove through the dimming streets, headlights cutting through the dusk like knives. For years, he had labored in the shadows, climbing, grinding, proving himself. And now, being a West—a name that carried weight, influence, and expectation—he had everything he had once dreamed of. Yet, everything he had gained seemed to have a cost he hadn’t anticipated. He turned the wheel slightly, glancing at the rearview mirror. His reflection stared back at him: sharp features, a strong jaw, eyes that once burned with ambition now clouded with unease. Had being a West been a blessing or a curse? He had always believed the family name would open doors, provide protection, and cement his place in the world. Instead, it seemed to have invited problems he couldn’t escape, problems that had grown heavier and more dangerous with each passing day. Money, influence, fame—they were supp

“Oh, Sonia, sorry to keep you waiting,” Vanessa said breathlessly as they finally stepped out of the snarled traffic. Her heels clicked against the marble floor of the lobby, impatience clear in the tap of her fingers on her phone as she glanced around. Her gaze immediately fell on Melinda, and for a split second, her eyes widened in surprise. “I see you found a new friend while we were away.” Sonia laughed lightly, brushing her hair behind her shoulder, her posture relaxed but confident. “Yes, I did,” she said. “Melinda, meet Vanessa, Judith, and Diva.” Melinda’s lips curved into a polite smile. “Nice to meet you all,” she said, extending her hand. She could feel the weight of their stares, the way Vanessa’s eyes lingered on her, almost sizing her up, but she returned the look with equal calm, a practiced ease that hid the little thrill bubbling inside. Vanessa didn’t even pause. Her words tumbled out like water over a dam. “Wow… your skin! You have to plug me with your skin vend

Sonia pushed open the glass door of the bar, letting the soft glow of the interior wash over her. The music was lively but not overwhelming, the kind of upbeat rhythm that made the space feel welcoming yet intimate. She scanned the room, her eyes instinctively seeking a table, a corner where she could settle in and wait. Her friends hadn’t arrived yet, and the emptiness of the space around her made her chest tighten in a way she didn’t like. With a small sigh, she slipped into a booth near the window, the leather seat cool against her skin. She picked up her phone and tapped out a quick message, her fingers slightly trembling, betraying a restless impatience. “Here, guys. Where are you all?” She hit send and immediately regretted it, fidgeting as she watched the three tiny dots that signaled delivery and, soon after, read receipts. The ping of the message delivered seemed louder than it should have, echoing her irritation and her unease. She set the phone down carelessly, letting it
