Reed froze, his heartbeat accelerating at the appearance of the three men. That was the absolute worst thing that could happen to him at that moment.

'Damn.' He cussed. 'This damn system.'

His heart started pounding as he watched the men place coolers on the table as if taunting him with his fate.

All the blame was placed squarely on the system's front. If he had been told that fighting skills were available to be bought, he would not have spent all that time flirting with the baby-faced killer

“Why are you just sitting here when breakfast has not been set on the table? Is there any depths of laziness you will not stoop to?” Beth scowled in irritation when she saw Thor sitting on a chair at the bare dinning table. He immediately jumped up and stood at attention, slowly creeping away from her as she came closer so that she would not batter him with slaps this morning.“Sorry mother in-law, I have made breakfast but since no one had come down yet I did not want to serve the food so it won’t get cold.” he said and ran off into the kitchen where he put final touches to the morning meal he had prepared. There were no servants in the Woods family so Thor had to do all the chores alone, he washed the dishes, cooked the food, cleaned the rooms, did the laundry and any other menial tasks that needed doing. Despite all of this he was still termed a “lazy bum” by members of the family who would not lift a finger to do a single chore or even offer some help.Once upon a time the Woods f

Miyu stepped through the heavy, polished glass doors of the Atlantic View, the city's most elite, super exclusive rooftop restaurant. The air inside was thick with the scent of expensive white truffles, aged bourbon, and the subtle, unmistakable hum of old money.Miyu took a deep breath and mentally braced herself for a meeting that was, without a doubt, about to alter the entire trajectory of her life.It had taken her the entire night, hours of pacing the creaking hardwood floors of her crumbling house, staring at the ceiling until the sun finally broke through the sky to arrive at the terrifying decision to reach out to Reed Hawke. As much as her fierce, deeply guarded pride did not want to admit it, the man had acted with an unbothered, purposeful, and terrifyingly calculated level of power. He had completely cleared her forty three-million-dollar corporate burden seemingly with a single, silent tap of his finger. He hadn't demanded submission, hadn't cornered her for a twisted re

Miyu blinked in absolute confusion, the cold night air lifting her hair over her face. For a split second, the heavy aluminum baseball bat in her hands faltered, the tip dipping slightly toward the ground. But the deep-seated paranoia that had followed her for years quickly reasserted itself, and her knuckles clamped tightly around the grip once more."How do you honestly expect me to believe a single word coming out of your mouth?!" she yelled, her voice no onger sharp, in control. "Do you think I'm completely dumb? You expect me to believe a perfect stranger just happens to show up at my doorstep, claiming to share a feud with the most powerful entertainment family's heir in the city? It’s a setup. It’s a pathetic mind game and I won't fall for it!"Reed didn’t flinch. He didn't even offer a defense. At that point he could see how rattled she looked, so instead, his green eyes remained chillingly calm, reflecting a level of absolute certainty that made her chest tighten."I don't ex

"Did who send me?" Reed asked, his brow furrowing in genuine confusion. He instinctively took a long, calculated step backward away from the damp grass as Miyu suddenly bounded down the wooden steps of the porch. She looked less like a frightened girl next door now and more like a fierce, entirely fearless crusader.Only moments before, Miyu had been threatening him with standard bodily harm, trying to scare a potential stalker off her property line. But now, the entire aura radiating off her small frame had violently shifted. Her posture was rigid, her jaw was locked in a mask of pure, unadulterated venom, and her dark eyes burned with an icy light. She looked ready to commit actual murder."Lucas Scott," she demanded, her voice cracking with a terrifying mixture of raw rage and deep-seated trauma. She lifted the heavy aluminum bat high into the air, her knuckles turning a bloodless white against the grip."Tell me the truth, you corporate rat! Is that bastard the one who finally sen

Reed desperately wanted to chuckle at the sheer absurdity of his situation, because it felt like a joke.He blinked into the dark alleyway, realizing with a wave of dry amusement that this was officially the second woman who had threatened his life in a single twenty-four-hour period. If this was what the life of an Ultimate Overlord looked like on a daily basis, his stress levels were going to rise far quicker than his capital, which was rising like bread dough with a lot of yeast.Wisely, he swallowed the physical laugh bubbling up in his throat, keeping his hands raised at shoulder height in a steady, unthreatening posture of absolute surrender. He slowly turned around and looked at him.'System, show me her debt status.'[Subject: Miyu Orla]Financial Status: Bankrupt.Debt: $43 Million owed to More Heat Entertainment.Reed's eyes widened at the amount."Look, I really don't mean you any harm, miss," Reed said, his smooth baritone carrying a carefully measured, soothing frequency.

As Reed slowly approached the edge of the club where he could get a proper look at Miyu, a sudden, grating clunking sound echoed from the dark mouth of the corner, making him instinctively stop and turn on his heel. The source of the awful noise turned out to be a vehicle that looked more like a jagged collection of oxidized scrap metal fused together by a blind welder than an actual, functioning car.Reed stared at it in genuine amazement, wondering what a piece of garbage that looked like it belonged on the set of a post apocalytic movie set was doing anywhere near the secured premises of such a hyper-exclusive, upscale venue. To his utter bewilderment, the sputtering vehicle crawled to a shuddering stop right before Miyu.A young valet stepped out of the driver's side before awkwardly handing her a key fob. When he had seen her performing on the club's stage earlier, Reed had figured things had gotten financially difficult for her. But this was an entirely different tier of rock bo
