For two long years, Caleb Hayes was the obedient, silent son-in-law everyone walked over. To save his father’s failing business, Caleb agreed to a contract marriage with Chloe Lincoln, secretly running her family's firm behind the scenes and turning it into a top-tier empire. All they promised him was a small branch company after two years, but on the exact day his contract ends, Chloe hands him a divorce decree and throws him out into the street without a single cent. When Caleb turns to his own family for help, his father and stepmother disown him, completely forgetting he ruined his life to save theirs. Broken and alone, Caleb receives an urgent call from an elite law firm revealing that his late mother left him an untouchable offshore fund worth tens of billions that just matured on his birthday. Three months later, as the Lincoln family business falls into complete chaos without Caleb's secret guidance, the board of directors fires the CEO and sells controlling shares to a mysterious investment group. On the day of the takeover, the new CEO steps out of his luxury sedan to take over the building, Chloe, her family, and the entire board are paralyzed with shock to see the useless man they discarded standing before them as their new boss. Calab Hayes is Back.

The Day The Contract Ended

Caleb Hayes stared at the divorce papers lying on the dining table. For several seconds, he didn't move. The rain outside had been falling since dawn, tapping against the enormous windows of the Lincoln mansion like impatient fingers.

Today marked the end of two long years. Seven hundred and thirty days. That was how long Caleb had been married to Lora Lincoln, and today their contract was officially over.

He had imagined this day countless times, sometimes picturing Lora finally looking at him differently, sometimes picturing her father admitting that Caleb had been the reason Lincoln Enterprises survived. He had never imagined this: her sitting across from him, already bored, waiting for a signature.

The house smelled the way it always did, expensive candles burning somewhere out of sight, coffee going cold on the sideboard because nobody in this family drank it fast enough to matter. Caleb picked up the papers. DIVORCE AGREEMENT. Husband: Caleb Hayes. Wife: Lora Lincoln. Two years of humiliation, two years of sleeping alone in a guest room while his wife kept the master bedroom, reduced to a few printed pages and a line for his name.

Across the table, Lora sat with her legs crossed, elegant and untouchable, scrolling her phone like she was closing an ordinary deal.

"Sign it."

Caleb lifted his eyes. She didn't look up. "Today is the last day of our contract," she said. "There's no reason to drag this out."

"So that's it?"

"What else do you expect?"

Caleb laughed quietly, the kind of laugh that escapes a man finally understanding something he should have understood a long time ago. "Nothing."

"Good."

For two years he had protected her from disasters she never knew existed. When Lincoln Enterprises nearly lost its biggest overseas supplier, he negotiated the fix. When the European trade route collapsed, he rerouted it through Singapore himself. Nobody knew. Not even Lora. The family believed the company had grown because of her brilliant leadership, and Caleb had never once corrected them. He'd only wanted one thing: freedom, and the small subsidiary they'd promised him at the end of the two years, enough to start over.

He signed. One stroke, then another, the pen scratching too loud in the quiet room. His marriage was over.

Relief crossed Lora's face, quick and unguarded, the kind of expression she never let anyone see in boardrooms. That hurt more than he expected. He'd known this marriage was nothing but a contract from the first day, and still, watching his wife's shoulders loosen at the sight of his signature, something in his chest went very quiet.

"Where's the subsidiary?" he asked.

She actually laughed. "You believed we'd give you a company?"

"That was the agreement."

"That was before. You've already received enough. You lived in this house for two years."

"Your family saved my father's company because my father agreed to the marriage."

"Exactly. Be grateful."

There it was, the same attitude he'd endured for two years. He'd never been a husband to them. He'd been a debt.

"Where's everyone?"

"Father's at the company. Mother's shopping."

He walked toward the stairs to pack. Lora stopped him. "You don't need to. The housekeeper already packed your belongings. They're in the garage."

Something inside him broke quietly, no dramatic sound, just a small, final give, like a rope fraying loose from something it had held for years. He'd eaten at their table, saved their company, endured their insults, and they couldn't even let him leave with dignity. His whole life folded into three boxes sitting on a concrete floor next to a Mercedes that cost more than his father's entire business.

"You should know something," Lora said as he turned to go. "You don't have to pretend anymore. That you're capable of running a business." She had no idea. She genuinely believed he'd merely helped, never guessing that every major decision at Lincoln Enterprises for two years had passed through his hands. "I hope you enjoy running Lincoln Enterprises," he said, and walked out before she could ask what he meant.

Thirty minutes later, Caleb stood in the rain outside the mansion with three cardboard boxes. Two years of marriage fit in three boxes. A black sedan pulled into the driveway, and Caleb's half-brother, Julian Hayes, leaned out grinning.

"Wow. You're actually leaving?"

"Looks like it."

"I almost feel sorry for you," Julian said, stepping closer. "You really think you're something, don't you?"

"Move."

Julian's smile disappeared, then came back cruel. He grabbed Caleb's arm. "You don't belong here anymore." When Caleb pulled free, Julian added, "Lora chose me."

Rain fell between them. Caleb's expression didn't change, though something flickered behind his eyes for exactly one second. Julian caught it.

"She never loved you."

"Congratulations," Caleb said. "You won. Enjoy your prize." He walked away, and Julian's phone rang behind him. Caleb couldn't hear the voice on the other end, only Julian's reply: "Tonight? You're sure?" Then, watching Caleb's back, "Of course."

Caleb didn't know it yet, but that call was the first crack in the life Lora thought she'd built without him, and he had no idea that the man who'd just claimed her had already been secretly involved with his ex-wife.

Three hours later, with less than two hundred dollars in his account and nowhere to go, Caleb turned toward the Hayes family estate. His father might still let him come home. He was still his father.

The gates were already lit when he arrived, and his father stood on the steps with Sylvia, Caleb's stepmother, and Julian between them. Julian, who Caleb had left at the Lincoln mansion an hour ago.

"Come inside," Arthur said, his voice cold.

"Father..." Caleb started, but Arthur cut him off.

"Don't call me that." He looked at the boxes. "Do you know what people are saying about me? They're laughing! Your own wife couldn't tolerate you for two years!"

"That's not what happened."

"Then what happened?" Arthur looked at Julian, who was smiling, and Caleb understood: Julian had already told them his version.

"I saved your company," Caleb said.

Sylvia laughed. "You?"

"At least Julian knows how to build relationships," Arthur said, and Caleb finally understood exactly what this was about.

"Enough!" Arthur shouted, silencing the courtyard. "You are no longer my son. From this moment forward, you are no longer a member of the Hayes family."

Rainwater dripped from Caleb's hair, ran cold down the back of his collar. He picked up his boxes. He was twenty-five years old, and for the first time in his life, he had absolutely nothing. No money, no home, no wife, no family, and a father standing on the steps of a house that no longer had a door open to him.

"Lora is mine now," Julian called after him as the gates closed.

Caleb stood alone in the dark. Then his phone vibrated. An unknown number.

"Is this Caleb Hayes?" a man's voice asked.

"Yes."

"My name is Marcus Vance. I am the trustee of an estate belonging to your late mother."

Caleb froze. His mother had died when he was young, and as far as he knew, she'd left him nothing.

"I've been trying to locate you for several years," Marcus said. "Because your mother left you an inheritance."

"How much?"

"You need to come to my office immediately. The trust matured today. Today is your twenty-fifth birthday, isn't it?"

Caleb had completely forgotten his own birthday.

"Your mother left you a trust fund," Marcus said. "Twenty billion dollars."

The world went silent. Caleb stared at the rain, certain the lawyer had made a mistake.

"And, Mr. Hayes," Marcus continued, his voice suddenly grave, "the twenty-billion-dollar trust is not the most valuable thing your mother left you. Your mother had a secret. One that could make you the most powerful man in Metro City."

The call ended. Caleb stood frozen outside the gates of the family that had just disowned him, his entire life collapsed in a single day: his marriage, his family, his home, everything. But somewhere in the darkness, a door had just opened, and Caleb Hayes had no idea that when he stepped through it, the entire world would learn the name of the man they had spent

two years calling useless.

Caleb Hayes was about to come back.
