The ballroom stirred. Whispered gasps rippled through the peoples, their eyes turning to Lynn with sympathy.
Curtis could feel those stares. Every single one.
He was being made into the villain here; the troublemaker, the parasite who had kept Lynn trapped in misery.
This wasn’t real.
The whole world had lost its mind.
“I gave you everything I had for the past five years,” Curtis clenched his jaw as the words tore out of him. “When you were hungry, I was the one in the kitchen no matter if it was three in the morning. When you were cold, I ran to the basement to get that goose feather coat. And when you didn’t want to sleep beside me... I spent every goddamn night on the cold, hard floor. It’s because I love you, Lynn!”
“I call that nothing,” Lynn spat, her hand trailing across Janson’s shirt. “You wanna know what Janson gave to me? A villa in Long Beach. A Maserati. A rare Hermès bag. Vacations in Maldives. And love—real, endless love. Compared to what you gave me, it’s like heaven and hell. There’s no comparison. There never was.”
So that’s all she saw: money?
“If it was money you wanted,” Curtis growled, “I have more of it than Janson ever will. Why didn’t you just say that from the start?”
Lynn’s eyes stare at him him.
Like something had just clicked in her head.
Then slowly, she smiled.
“My husband… why you never said that?” said Lynn.
Curtis felt a bit of hope, until…
SLAP!
Gasps filled the room.
He clutched his cheek, burning red with pain and disbelief.
“That’s the only way to shut your bullshit mouth,” Lynn said coldly. “Keep spinning your pathetic fairy tale, and I’ll give you something worse than that.”
Curtis's vision darkened when he fought the reflex to strike back. He hold it. His body was trained for war so it didn’t know how to back down from an attack, but this time he faced the only reason why he always tries to keep alive and go home.
His wife.
“What? You gonna hit a woman now, you fucking coward?” Janson snarled, his fist clenching.
“Janson…” Curtis’s voice dropped—low, but heavy enough for everyone to hear. “You planned all this. You sick bastard.”
Janson burst out laughing.
Of course he did.
He had orchestrated everything. He wanted the whole world to see how he stole the most beautiful woman in Seraine from Curtis.
Janson pulled Lynn closer, his grip tight on her waist, then said, “You fail as a husband, and now you throw around conspiracy theories? Please. I don’t need dirty tricks. I only take what’s willingly given. I’m in control here. I don’t stoop to the level of lapdogs like you.”
“Janson’s right,” Lynn said as she faced the crowd without hesitation. “Listen. No one forced me into anything. I chose Janson because I love him, he’s out of admiration for the real man. Anyone who dares slander him should be punished severely.”
“No need for punishment, my love,” Janson cooed when he pressing a kiss to her forehead. “Let this stray lapdog beg. Let him apologize on his knees. Maybe I’ll let him go.”
“Sounds good,” Lynn nodded eagerly. “Curtis, did you hear that?”
Curtis stared, speechless.
You’re the one who cheated. And I’m the one who has to apologize?
“Not a chance,” he replied coldly.
“Oh really?” Janson lifted his wine glass. “Good. Because I wasn’t enjoying this cheap wine anyway. Why don’t you have it, mutt? You look thirsty.”
He dumped the glass over Curtis’s head.
Red wine ran down his face. Cold. Sticky.
“HAHAHA! Look at him! This dog can’t even drink right. He’s soaked!”
Laughter exploded around the room.
“He deserved it!”
“A dog barking at its master—he’s lucky that’s all he got.”
“Cut his tongue off next time.”
One by one, guests took turns ordering cheap wine and soaking him. Glass after glass.
Curtis didn’t move.
Didn’t flinch.
Didn’t speak.
“Know your place in the Feather family!” Janson spat him. “You’re nothing but their lapdog. Know your place, scumbag!”
Curtis locked his eyes with cold steel gaze.
“You’re gonna remember this moment, Janson,” Curtis muttered. “Forever. I promise.”
And with that, Curtis lifted his glass above Janson’s head.
With unwavering hands, he poured the entire glass of Château Margaux over the man’s perfectly combed hair.
The luxurious wine trickled down Janson’s suit, dripping onto the marble floor.
Janson froze.
His eyes widened. His jaw clenched.
He had humiliated countless people. Crushed them. Broken them.
But tonight...
Tonight was the first time someone dared to fight back.
He lunged forward, grabbing Curtis by the collar.
“You rabid dog... YOU’RE DEAD!” Janson roared.
He tried to lift him, but Curtis didn’t move an inch.
It was like trying to shove a mountain.
“How…?”
Janson was a strong man, no doubt about that.
But, Curtis was built different. He’s solid. Heavy.
He’s shaped in war, not in comfort like anyone in this room.
Janson tried to back away, but he couldn’t make single step.
“Mr. Feather taught me patience,” Curtis whispered. “But I have my limits. You forced me.”
Curtis shifted his stance. His hand shot up, clamping down on Janson’s wrist, then braced his other palm against the man’s chest.
BOUGH!
Janson crashed into the banquet table. Wine spilled, mashed potatoes flew, and a few of his teeth went with him.
“PUAH!”
Fresh blood splattered across. Janson lay sprawled among shattered glass and wilted garnish.
The room stunned.
No one moved. No one breathed.
But, then—
“What the hell is going on?! Who punched my son?!”
Everyone’s eyes turned toward the old man standing at the entrance.
“No way...”
“It was him.”
“Darius Matthew!”
The head of the Matthew family, second only to the Wilsons in power across all of Seraine. Darius Matthew.

Curtis wiped the tears from Lynn’s face, his hand moving with a gentleness that felt almost cruel. His eyes softened, but the pity in them was sharper than any blade.“I don’t care whether Janson manipulated you or not. I don’t care if you chose betrayal or were pushed into it. None of it matters anymore.”His voice was calm, steady, as if every word had been decided long before this moment.“It’s over.”He let the silence stretch before speaking again.“We signed the divorce papers. In a few days, the court will close this chapter for good.”“I kept my promise to your father. I protected you as long as I could. That’s enough.”“You’ve grown, Lynn. You no longer need me to shield you. My duty ends here.”Curtis drew a slow breath, his eyes never leaving hers.“Go on with your new fiancé. Build your life with him. As for me, I’ll marry another woman. We both deserve happiness… just not with each other.”Lynn stared blankly at Curtis’s nose, as if her entire soul had been dragged down b

Her strides sharp and commanding. Her jet-black hair fell in a sleek cascade that caught the light with every step, framing her face with an air of untouchable elegance. Her brown eyes gleamed like cutting jewels, refusing to glance at the people bowing their heads in respect. Indifferent. Dominant. Her lips, strawberry-red, were neither curved into a smile nor set into a frown. The steady click of her heels came to a halt the moment her gaze landed on Curtis standing at the center of the crowd.“Ah, there he is.”She quickened her pace, letting the elegance and cold poise slip away, like a child catching sight of a candy gift meant just for her.“It’s been a while,” she murmured softly. “Master Fox, we finally—”“Jasmine. You came.” Curtis cut in. “Tell your master I owe him.”Jasmine froze on the spot. With those words from Curtis, she

“Shoot me,” he said calmly, “and you’ll be dragging your Nine Dragon Alliance into an all-out war.”Jack didn’t care. His finger tensed again, but then a hoarse voice broke through the silence.“Boss…”Jack’s eyes flicked; his right-hand-man whispered next to him.“Master Wilson told you, no killing in Seraine. Especially this man, he’s the chairman of Swan Observation Group!”Swan Observation Group was one of the most powerful military companies in Calvaria. With elite gear, hardened troops, and the government’s full backing, they were built to make life hell for the Nine Dragons. At the same time, the situation between the Swans and the Dragons was a fragile balance. Both sides had chosen to hold back at least until the war on the Eastern Front was settled. No one wanted to be the first to break the truce.“You won,” Jack muttered, pulling back the gun and laughing bitterly. “You get to keep your face this time, Mr. Swan. Only because you're my future father-in-law.”Suddenly, Seren
