The Oakhaven Sky Tower was like a diamond floating in the night. It was the tallest, brightest building in the city.

On the top floor, the Grand Gala was in full swing. The room smelled of expensive perfume, fresh orchids, and money. Waiters in white gloves walked smoothly through the crowd, carrying silver trays full of golden champagne.

Everything in the room sparkled. The chandeliers were made of real crystal. The floors were polished marble. But the brightest thing in the room was supposed to be Jax.

Jax stood on the main stage. He wore a white silk suit that shone under the spotlights. He held a microphone tightly, his knuckles white. Beside him stood Elena. She looked like a queen in a blood-red dress that trailed on the floor. Diamonds hung from her ears, catching the light every time she moved.

"Ladies and gentlemen," Jax shouted. His voice echoed through the massive hall. "Welcome to the future!"

The crowd cheered. These were the richest people in the city. Investors, bankers, and tech giants. They all looked at Jax with hungry eyes.

"They told me it was impossible," Jax said, puffing out his chest. He pointed to the giant screen behind him. It showed the logo for the 'Trillion Dollar Launch.' "They said the code was too complex. They said no human could write it. But look at me now."

Jax paused for effect. He looked at Elena. She forced a smile, but her eyes did not smile. She looked nervous. Her fingers played with the ring on her finger—the ring Ronan had given her years ago, which she still hadn't taken off.

"I had a vision," Jax lied. He tapped his head. "This came from my mind. My genius. Tonight, we change the world."

The investors clapped loudly. They did not know the truth. They did not know that the code belonged to Ronan. They did not know Jax stole it while Ronan was sick and broken.

Jax raised his glass. "To me!" he laughed.

Suddenly, a loud sound cut through the room.

BOOM.

The heavy double doors at the entrance of the ballroom flew open. They hit the walls with a violence that shook the floor.

The music stopped instantly. The clapping died. The laughter vanished. A heavy silence fell over the room. Three hundred people turned their heads toward the door.

A man stood in the doorway.

For a moment, nobody moved. Elena gasped. She took a step back, her hand covering her mouth.

It was Ronan.

But it was not the Ronan they remembered. The old Ronan was messy. He wore hoodies and looked tired. This man was different. This man was terrifying.

Ronan was clean-shaven. His jawline was sharp like a knife. He stood tall and straight. He wore a black bespoke suit that absorbed the light. The fabric looked smooth like water. It was tailored perfectly to his broad shoulders. He didn't look like a coder anymore. He looked like an emperor.

He took a step forward. Click. His leather shoe hit the marble.

He took another step. Click.

He did not look at the crowd. His eyes were locked on the stage. He looked straight at Jax. His eyes were cold, dark, and empty.

Jax’s face turned the color of milk. He dropped his microphone. It hit the floor with a loud screech, but no one cared.

"Security!" Jax screamed. His voice was high and weak. "Security! Get this trash out of here! He’s not on the list!"

Four large guards in black uniforms rushed toward Ronan. They looked angry. They were used to throwing out drunk people. They reached for their batons. The Head of Security, a man with a thick neck, reached out to grab Ronan’s collar.

"You need to leave, pal," the guard grunted.

Ronan did not stop walking. He did not dodge. He did not fight.

He simply lifted his right hand. He held a sleek, thin phone. He didn't even look at the screen. He just pressed one button.

SCREEECH.

A high-pitched noise blasted through the earpieces of all four guards. They yelled in pain and grabbed their ears. They stumbled back, confused.

Then, a soft ding sounded from the Head of Security’s pocket.

The guard blinked, shaking his head to clear the noise. He pulled out his own phone. He looked at the screen. His eyes went wide. His mouth fell open.

A notification flashed on his screen:

Bank Deposit: $100,000.

Sender: Unknown.

Message: Stand Down.

The guard looked up at Ronan. Ronan finally looked at him. Ronan’s face was calm. He gave a tiny nod.

The guard swallowed hard. That was three years of salary in one second. He looked at Jax, who was screaming, and then he looked at Ronan, who stood like a statue of power.

The guard made his choice. He stepped back. He signaled his men.

"Let him through," the guard said quietly.

"What?" Jax yelled from the stage. "I pay you! Arrest him! Beat him!"

The guards turned their backs on Jax. They folded their arms and stood against the wall. They did nothing.

Ronan continued his walk. The crowd of rich investors parted like the Red Sea. They stepped away, afraid to touch him, but unable to look away. They whispered as he passed.

"Who is that?"

"Is that the partner?"

"Look at his suit. Look at his eyes."

Ronan walked to a waiter who was frozen in fear. Ronan gently took a glass of champagne from the waiter’s tray.

He walked up the stairs to the stage.

Jax stumbled backward. He hit the podium. "Ronan, wait. We can talk. I can explain. It was just business!" Jax stuttered. He was sweating now. The arrogance was gone.

Ronan walked right past Jax. He didn't even look at him. To Ronan, Jax was not even worth a glance.

Ronan stopped in front of Elena.

Elena was trembling. Her whole body shook. She looked into Ronan’s eyes, searching for the man who used to love her. But that man was gone.

Ronan stood very close to her. He smelled of rain and expensive scotch. He smiled. It was not a kind smile. It was a dangerous smile.

He raised his glass slowly.

Clink.

He tapped his glass against hers.

The sound rang out in the silent room.

"Honey," Ronan said, his voice deep and smooth, loud enough for everyone to hear. "You started the party without me."
