Elsie made to get off of his chest but she suddenly felt firm strong hands grip her by the waist and pull her back onto his chest. She gasped softly and her gaze returned to meet his.

"Are you feeling better?" Jayden asked her.

She batted her lashes confusedly. "Huh?"

"You looked so tired last night, I could tell you were drained out and needed rest. Do you feel better now?" He explained to her.

She nodded her head subconsciously. She could not bring herself to comprehend the beauty of his color shifting eyes. They were the most beautiful things she had ever set her eyes on and all she wanted to do was stare at them forever.

But the sound of small feet on the staircase caught their attention and she immediately sprung up from Jayden's chest to make sure he-- her son-- did not see her like that with a man.

Caspian climbed down the stairs gently and rushed towards his mother. Jumping into her open arms, he hugged her with his small arms, wrapping them around her neck.

  • Meeting Alex in Roy's house

Caspian's POV “Alex!” My jaw fell below my belt. “What are you doing here? As a guard? How did you even get in? Or win their trust?” I fired question after question non-stop. How could I even bring my mouth to keep quiet? “Shhhh,” he said softly. “I'm doing my job, and I'm here as the Beta of the pack, not the guard,” Alex responded pretty boldly, “and for how I got in or won their trust, I didn't have to,” he said, “Roy is an old friend of mine, so he was delighted to have me,” “Wait! What?” I blurted, realizing just how small of a world it was. I felt stupid, taking the opposite direction from Alex, when I was only going to end up in the same spot as him. “Did you know…?” I froze, trying to convince myself that it couldn't be. “Take a walk with me, Caspian,” Alex requested–a request I did not hesitate to yield to. “When I left you, I knew exactly where I was going,” he began, “but it seemed like a really dangerous path, a path I didn't want to drag you on,” “I couldn't f

  • Caspian followed Roy

Caspian's POV My curiosity got the best of me and I followed behind him at a safe distance. I needed to know what more was buried in the heart of the woods. Whatever it was Roy was keeping a secret, I wanted to know–I needed to. The walk was becoming quite long and it was becoming more difficult to follow behind him.Roy would occasionally turn, like he knew I was following behind him, or like he was expecting me to. I managed to hide behind a tree at every point in time. I had also learnt a few tricks on how to mask my scent so I wasn't picked, and although the woods had a strong scent on its own, I wasn't sure how strong of a wolf Roy was. It was an hour and a half of following, until Roy hid behind a huge rock and took off the clothes he was wearing. There was obviously a new set of his clothes behind the rock, because I knew he was travelling light. Roy took ten minutes and I was almost dozing off, when he surfaced from behind the rock and then continued his walk for anothe

  • Caspian's Doubt

Caspian's POV“How did you know I’ll be needing all this stuff?” I asked. Roy and I had been busy for almost two hours, packing stuff into the house. “How did you even get all these here?” I had been asking a lot of questions, but Roy had failed to give me a definitive answer to all my many questions. “I watched you from the moment you crossed the pine tree line and walked into this part of the woods,” he finally offered a response. “In fact, I followed you from beyond the pines. Roy was really mysterious. He knew more about me than I had recognized of myself–at least in the past two weeks. “This part of the woods used to be my safe place–somewhere i got to enjoy privacy,”“Used to?” I chipped in.“Well, with you here it’s not much of a private space now, is it?”“Ouch!” I exclaimed, placing my hand on my chest. “I see just how welcoming you are, making me feel like I’m intruding into your space.” “Well, I mean, you are,” Roy raised his shoulder, signaling that he was stating t

  • Caspian met a new company

Caspian's POV “Hello to you too,” the young man just walked right past me like he owned the cabin. “Sure, it’s not much, but you would not be allowed to disrespect my home.” I closed the door and turned to the young man. If I was being honest, I wasn’t even mad. If anything, I was excited to see him, even though I didn’t know him.“How did you even find me?” I queried. “I’ve been out here in the woods for seven years, if someone falls trees to raise an apartment, I would notice the minute the first tree hits the ground. I just didn’t give so much energy to it, because I was expecting you to run out of the wood, but you proved tougher than I thought,” he said. “I genuinely didn’t think a boy like you would survive here,”“A boy like me?” I interrupted. “What does that mean?” I probed. “I mean, you look like a soft boy, prince and definitely not fashioned for the wild,” he said, staring at me from my hair’s tip to my toes. All I had on was still the shirt he gave me. “Well, I gues

  • The strange man

Caspian's POVI remained in the pool, keeping my gaze firmly in the direction where the footsteps were coming from. “Woah!” “Argh!” the man and I yelled simultaneously. He was obviously not expecting to see me here, and if I could, I would have taken advantage of the situation to flee.“I’m so sorry,” he said, putting his hand over his eyes. “I wasn’t expecting to find anyone here. How did you even get here?” His confusion was as evident as my diffidence. “It’s fine,” I summoned enough courage to say. “If I knew that a single soul lived around here I would have been more cautious,” I said. “I’ll just let you finish up,” he turned his back to leave.“Wait!” like him, I couldn’t believe that I was going to call him back. “I was done, and just about to leave,” I said. He had his back towards me, as he responded, “oh, okay. I guess I will let you dress then and then I can go in for my shower,” he said. I coughed slightly. “I don’t have any change of clothes,” I admitted. “What

  • My new path

Caspian's POVIt took hours of walking and at midday, I finally felt like I was far away—as far away as I wanted to be from all the chaos that had somehow webbed around me. Finding myself out in the middle of nowhere and alone was something I would naturally dread, but not this time. I looked around me for a while, knowing exactly what I wanted to do, but left with one problem—how I was going to do it. I needed to raise a wooden structure to house me, as my location already seemed like one that was going to have a lot of sumptuous animals for food. There was not a single tool in sight, so felling the trees and putting them together was a problem I had to find a solution to.Before kick starting my journey, I knew it was going to come with its challenges, the only difference now was that I was actually ready for the challenges. I sat down and took deep breaths. ‘I am the smartest werewolf alive and I got this,’ I continued chanting in a low tone, hoping to trigger ideas out of me.
