Joseph looked up briefly, noting her troubled demeanor. What was with this woman? She’d gone out looking fine and returned with the weight of the world on her shoulders.

As he pondered this, his phone vibrated softly. Joseph casually took a sip of water and picked up his phone, only to freeze as he saw the message on Facebook.

“Professor Wilson, let’s go on a blind date.”

The words stared back at him.

“Pfft—cough, cough, cough…”

Joseph choked on his water, nearly spraying it everywhere.

“What’s wrong, Professor Wilson?”

Mason Alvarez turned to Joseph, her expression all innocence.

“Nothing, just choked on some water.”

Joseph waved his hand dismissively, clearly exasperated.

“Oh, in that case, carry on drinking.”

Hearing this, Mason turned her attention back to her work, seemingly unconcerned.

“Professor Wilson, would you like me to give you a couple of acupuncture needles? It’ll help you recover in no time,” Brady Rogers chimed in.

“No need, thank you.”

“That’s Uncle Stanley’s son-in-law at the grill himself—putting on a show for us.”“For real? The smell alone—he must be good. Uncle Stanley’s son-in-law is a man of many talents.”“No kidding. I’m green with envy. This Mr. Joseph isn’t just a miracle doctor—looks like he’s a kitchen wizard too. When will my daughter find someone half as good?”Envy rippled through the crowd. As the aroma thickened, more people drifted over. A sizable ring had formed around Joseph. Faced with the sight, smell, and sizzle of the lamb, mouths were quite literally watering.“Mr. Wilson, it smells amazing!” Mason stood at Joseph’s side, sincere with admiration. She hadn’t been hungry before, but now her stomach was grumbling.“Is it the lamb that smells good, or me?” Joseph teased in a low voice.“Both you and the lamb,” Mason murmured, cheeks flushing. This rascal—cracking jokes like that in public. Honestly.“Who smells better—me or the lamb?” Joseph pressed on, relentless.“You. You smell the best. Hap

“Alright then—here’s the situation.”“I booked a top city chef for noon—he’s amazing at roast whole lamb.”“We had it all set, and at the last minute he said he couldn’t make it. I’d already paid the deposit.” Neil spread his hands helplessly. “To be fair, he refunded double, but still—I don’t even know what to say.”“Is roast whole lamb that hard to make?” Joseph asked.“It’s not hard to make—it’s hard to make well,” Neil said. “That chef is famous. I paid a premium so everyone could have a real treat.”“I prepared four whole lambs—slaughtered, marinated—everything ready. And then the chef didn’t show.” Neil looked exasperated.“Why don’t I give it a try?” Joseph hesitated, then offered.“Yes, yes—he’s got great skills,” Mason jumped in immediately.“That wouldn’t be right—you’re a guest. How could we have you do the cooking?” Neil said, embarrassed.“No need for formality. It’s my first time here—I want Uncle and Auntie, and Ms. Alvarez, to taste my cooking. Roast whole lamb is one

“Old… old man? Why are you back so soon?” Judith Robinson stared at the man at the door, momentarily at a loss. Wasn’t this her husband, Theodore Alvarez? Only, Theodore’s face was anything but pleasant.“D-dad…” Pauline Alvarez called out, a little afraid.“What’s the rush—off somewhere?” Theodore brushed past them, face like ice, and poured himself a glass of water.“Nowhere. We just heard a car and knew you were back,” Judith said with a forced smile.“Where’s the son-in-law?” Theodore asked.“Son-in-law? Well… um…” Judith stammered and tugged at Pauline’s sleeve.“Where’s your boyfriend? Didn’t you tell me you brought him home? Didn’t you say he had great prospects? I rushed back from Ravenford City. Where is he?” Theodore turned to Pauline. Under his gaze, she panicked and lost her words.“It’s like this—he had an urgent matter and went back to Nova City,” Judith jumped in with a quick excuse.“Right. That’s it—urgent business, back to Nova City,” Pauline added, grasping at the l

Facing everyone’s expectant gazes, Joseph didn’t speak right away. He pondered for a moment, rubbing his fingertips lightly as if weighing something.“It’s confirmed—she’s pregnant.”“Congratulations, Big Brother and Sister-in-law. Today is a day of double blessings,” Joseph said with layered meaning.“Hahaha, it is indeed a double blessing—Archie’s out of the hospital, and my wife is expecting. Double blessings!” Neil Alvarez burst into hearty laughter.Joseph opened his mouth as if to add something, but in the end chose not to.“Truly, double blessings—what a rare day!”“If not for Mason’s future husband, where would these blessings have come from? We owe the young man our thanks.”“That’s right—remarkable, truly.”The room buzzed with warm chatter.Neil Alvarez and Margaret exchanged a look, joy shining plainly in both their eyes.“Mr. Wilson, you must take this money,” Neil urged again.“Big Brother, really—no need.”“How about this: if you feel you must thank me, send me some fre

“My name is Joseph. I’m Mason’s boyfriend. Hello—nice to meet you.”Joseph introduced himself.“Tharion, this is the man who saved our family,” Vincent Alvarez reminded him.“In our community, we have a custom: if someone saves a child’s life, the child recognizes that person as their godfather.”“Archie, come here! Why aren’t you kneeling to call him godfather?” Neil Alvarez dragged Archie over. Before Joseph could react, Archie dropped to his knees with a thud and knocked his forehead to the floor three times.“Godfather!”Archie called out obediently.Joseph was so startled by the scene that he immediately took two steps back.“Happy now? You’ve got yourself a son!” Mason Alvarez was laughing so hard she could barely breathe. With her professional training, she usually never laughed—unless she absolutely couldn’t help it.“No—that’s not… that doesn’t seem right.” Joseph was a bit dazed. The whole thing made Madeline Castillo burst out laughing in exasperation.“Neil Alvarez, you bi

“I don’t want to. I can’t take it. If you mess around again, I won’t be able to get out of bed.”“Besides, it’s early morning. Can you not?” Mason said as she scooted away from Joseph, wrapping the quilt tightly around herself like a cocoon.“Then behave,” Joseph said with a wicked grin.“Oh.” Mason looked up at him, wide-eyed and pitiful.“You iron brute—how are you not the least bit tired after going at it all night?” she asked, curiosity edging into her embarrassment.“Maybe my body’s a little different—constitution’s not like most people’s,” Joseph said.“I used to wonder what had the little minx so obsessed with you,” Mason murmured, cheeks coloring. “Now I finally get it.”“What is it you get?” Joseph asked.“You’ve got your…talents. You’ve got your capital.”“And the capital you’ve got—well, it can make a woman lose herself,” she said, flushing deeper.Joseph, despite himself, glanced down at a certain place. Was that the “talent” she meant? The way she said it definitely carri
