Quinn felt a brief flash of fear when he saw Serenthar standing so close to the carriage, his inhuman face looking even more unsettling at this distance. ’…what is this bastard trying to do!..’

Serenthar raised his other hands and grabbed the translucent shield covering the carriage. One hand repeatedly tapped against the barrier, keeping the protective runes active, while the others moved above it, weaving intricate patterns through the air.

Quinn’s eyes widened as he understood what was happe

Outside, in Eboncrypt, everything was still and silent. The moon fought with the clouds to shine its gentle light down on them, partially illuminating the grounds and the occasional Magus that moved now and then. But suddenly, a new group of Magus came forward. Their faces were covered in hoods and they moved quickly as they walked towards the tallest tower, a long wooden chest carried between them. They placed it down and opened it, whispering among each other as, one after the other, the five of them dipped their hands into the chest and straightened with some strange instruments in their hands. It looked like a tablet made of metal, flat and shiny, the surface covered in glowing symbols. They raised it above their heads and shouted out a spell. For an instant nothing happened. That single moment of calm before the storm hung for what felt like hours even as it was just a second. Then everything exploded.A howling wind sprang into existence, sweeping across the courtyard like a tid

Her expression became sour but she didn't speak again. Instead, she went forward to the coffin in the corner and lifted it. "The portal is about to be gone, the doorway will close soon."Quinn turned toward the portal and it had shrunk to a quarter of its actual size. "Let's get out of here."With that, he walked toward the portal and disappeared within. When Quinn appeared again, he was back at the hallway with the door of mouth that was half open. The pile of corpses was still on one side and the workers on the other, giving him a weary look as if he might suddenly start attacking them.He ignored them and instead faced the door. Before long Lady Slave also appeared, with the coffin somehow strapped to her back.Lady Slave looked at Quinn. "What are we going to do next?"She was thinking of a way to talk him out of his insane plans. The reason they had not even gotten into any trouble was because the Lord of Eboncrypt was not there, and the Magus that remained had total assurance th

Lady Slave trembled. "What do you want? What do you want to do? If you do anything funny it will be transferred to you! And there is no way to break the binding!"Quinn ignored her.He leaned forward; with casual efficiency, he snapped one of her fingers, the smallest one.The reaction was instant. She flinched and cried out, jerking her hand to her chest and trying to struggle away from where he was. "You bastard! I have always known you are a sick bastard!"Quinn ignored her again. His head tilted to the side as if he was waiting for something, and sure enough he felt a flash of heat in one of his fingers, the smallest one.It was followed by an incredible amount of pain that made him grunt as he lost control of his smallest right finger.'..fuck...this is going to be difficult...' he thought as he looked at his finger that hung limply. On the ground, Lady Slave healed her finger quickly and flashed a hesitant smile. "Are you going to let me go now? You can't really kill me, right?"

"You can try!" Lady Slave shouted. She opened her mouth wide and spat out enough blood to make her fall down dead, but she still stood there with a defiant look on her face. The blood that she spat out turned into a long sword. The mere appearance of the sword made the surroundings glow with a bright red brilliance.Quinn felt danger coming from that sword and he quickly estimated her power. "...she should be around the same stage as me, but I can't accurately say what level of power she is..."He dropped the whip and instantly formed the familiar void umbrella.Lady Slave grinned. "You've fought Magus, right? And no doubt you think they are weak. Well, I'm sorry to disappoint you, but Magus are not any weaker than you!"We know our weaknesses, and given time, we know how to patch them up!"As she spoke, red blood began to flow from the sword she was holding into her hand, seeping over her flesh and forming a rough armor that began to mold around her, fully enclosing her in seconds. "

Wait... what?Quinn froze and his eyes slowly hardened like ice. Any and all warmth disappeared as if it had never existed. "What do you mean?"Lady Slave took an involuntary step back, her face wide with fear. Suddenly the person that stood in front of her didn't just pose a minimal threat. He radiated bloodlust that made her spin, turn cold. "Wait! What I meant is that to return, I need to use my power to get us out! My unsealed power!"Quinn stared at her in silence for a while and then his eyes narrowed. "I warn you: if you trick me, I will give you the worst death I've ever bestowed upon anyone."And it wasn't a warning, he was simply explaining what he would do if she should do anything out of line. The whip he was holding hummed as more draconic energy poured into it, making it flicker with purple light.Lady Slave nodded hurriedly.Quinn didn't trust her but knew there must be some truth to what she said as well as a trap. The problem was that he didn't know what she could do

Lady Slave took her time replying. "Where else would it lead? Into that room."Quinn tightened the whip. "What is in that room except for the magical instrument that would lift that seal? That you were not even sure was there?"She shrugged. "What else would be there? What else would a necromancer hide so deeply and with such advanced magic? It is a body!"Quinn narrowed his eyes. "Oh? Hide so deeply. Is it not quite easy for you to open it? All you have done was draw a circle and kill some slaves. I do not think the Lord of Eboncrypt was trying to hide anything that hard."She sneered. "What do you know? This door right here is one of the crafts created personally by Cold Barren. It was given as a gift to Lord Pale who put the lord of Eboncrypt in charge of Eboncrypt."Some things instantly became clear.Eboncrypt fights for Lord Pale while Umbracrypt must be for Lord Shroud. Whatever is in that door must be related to the war."It took years to build a spell to counter it and a war
