CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

“What’s going on here?” Desmond asked as he continued marching toward them, ignoring the wide eyes of his ex-wife and her lover.

“Celeste?” He stopped when he was close enough, staring at the lady for an explanation.

Celeste cleared her throat, and letting go of Vanessa, she took two steps backward, and then she faced Desmond and bowed.

“Welcome, Mr. Kane…” She paused for a few seconds while Desmond was still eager to hear what she had to say.

“These two…” She broke her silenc

Desmond stared at Oliver, who was still pointing excitedly at the lady he had chosen. The woman’s face had gone pale. She struggled to keep her balance, her bruised lips trembling as she looked from Oliver to Desmond, silently begging him to do something. But Desmond remained expressionless.“Are you deaf, boy?” Oliver barked, his eyes narrowing as he noticed that Desmond had not moved. “I said I want her!”Desmond slowly turned toward the lady, who immediately lowered her face.He could see the fear in her eyes, and even though she tried to hide it, her trembling body betrayed her.“Of course, sir,” Desmond responded calmly. He took a step toward her, but instead of grabbing her as Oliver expected, he stopped in front of the woman and turned to the two men.“Would you mind telling me where you intend to take them?”Oliver raised an eyebrow, exchanging a curious glance with his companion.“What kind of question is that?”Desmond shrugged.“I only want to know where to take the ladies,

CHAPTER HUNDRED AND FORTY-THREE There was instant silence as no one dared to make even the smallest sound. Roy moved to the middle, and certain that the ladies were not going to dare make any sound, he turned to Desmond and cleared his throat. “The Boss will be with you shortly, Desmond. Don’t mess this up.” He warned with his finger pointed to Desmond’s face, and after he had observed the ladies for a while, he turned to leave, taking out the key from his pocket again. “What am I supposed to do?” Desmond asked with an arched brow, staring at the short man. Roy stopped, and after he had taken a deep breath, he turned to Desmond with a glare. “You have no right to ask questions, boy.” He said with a scowl, and then he took a deep breath.“When the time comes, you will know what to do. For now, just stay with them and make sure they remain quiet.” The short butler continued his exit, clanking noisily with his brown shoes. Finally, he was out of the room, and then he shut the door

CHAPTER HUNDRED AND FORTY-TWO In less than a minute, they were already standing in front of the entrance, but the two guards there had their eyes on Desmond, prepared to kick him out, especially since his hands were empty. They were as huge as Hill, glaring as they looked over the short butler. “He is with me, boys.” Roy broke the silence, looking up at the guards who looked down at him.“He is without anything, Mr. Roy.” One of the guards pointed out, turning to Desmond with a scowl. “Not even a glass…” He added, his eyes sparking with disdain. Roy cleared his throat, and then he inched closer to the guard, unbothered about his hugeness. “Are you questioning my authority?” He asked with a wry smile, staring at the guard who quickly looked away.“We are sorry, Mr. Roy.” The other guard apologized, and then they left the way, spreading to the corners like curtains. “Come with me,” Roy said to Desmond, who left with him immediately, ignoring the glaring of the guards, especially

CHAPTER HUNDRED AND FORTY-ONE Desmond turned to take a look at Aria.“Stay hidden. I will come find you as soon as I get the information that I need.” He sighed, and then he left, shutting the door behind him. Barely five seconds after Desmond had left the knob of the door, two men appeared from along the hallway, marching toward them.Davina gasped, almost dropping the two bottles of wine she was holding.“That’s Mr. Roy!” She whispered to Desmond, staring at the middle-aged man who was walking behind the young male servant, holding onto a key.He looked very mean, short, and bald-headed. From a distance, he was already glaring at Davina and Arian, but he was particularly focused on Desmond, his brows arched as he stared at them. The male servant in front of him gasped the moment he saw Davina holding onto the bottles of wine, and secretly, he glanced at the butler walking behind him, his breath trembling.“What are we going to do?” Davina asked again in a whisper, turning to Desm

CHAPTER HUNDRED AND FORTY Ten seconds were passed, yet it was still obvious that whoever was in front of the door had refused to leave, standing still as if his life depended on it. After a few seconds, he grabbed the doorknob again and twisted, yet nothing had changed. “I have to get wine, or I will be in trouble!” The voice whispered nervously, and then the stranger took a deep breath. “Maybe Mr. Roy locked it. I should get him at once.” The man said with just a little ounce of hope left in his tone, and then he walked away.Everyone inside the wine store remained silent until they could no longer hear the sound of the receding footsteps.Vin and Davina were the first to sigh in relief, and then Aria followed suit, turning to Desmond, who calmly moved away from the door, turning his eyes to Davina, who in turn looked away, focused on Aria. “That must be one of the guys helping with the party. We have to leave before he gets Mr. Roy!” Her voice was slippery, laced with so much a

CHAPTER HUNDRED AND THIRTY-NINE Aria watched as Desmond made sure that everything was in order, and when he finally returned to her, he forced a smile, looking her in the eyes. “Do you know if there will be any more surprises waiting for us?” He asked, but Aria could not provide any answer. She just looked toward the direction that Desmond kept the men he knocked out, seeing parts of their bodies with the aid of the torchlight from the phone on the floor. Slowly, she returned her gaze to Desmond, her breath quivering as she prepared the question that lingered inside her mind.“Are they dead?” She asked with a shaky voice, not certain that she was ready for the answer to her question. Desmond took a deep breath, and then he responded with a wry smile, “Not yet…”“Not yet?!” Aria snapped, but when she remembered that they were in a place they didn’t need to be in, she took a deep breath, and then she continued with a lower tone. “I didn’t think that we were here to kill anyone, Des
