Edmond’s face darkened, anger surging through his veins. "Shut up! Both of you!" he barked into the phone.

"Stop crying like children! You’re Millers! You own this city! I’ll call Manhattan National Trust personally and have the bank president fire whichever incompetent clerk messed up your accounts."

Edmond slammed the end-call button, his chest heaving with irritation. He loved his twin boys fiercely, he had raised them in his own ruthless image—and he wasn't about to let some banking glitch ruin their morning.

He dialed the direct, private cell line of Arthur Vozz, the senior vice-president of Manhattan National Trust—the bank that held all of the Miller family’s corporate liquidity and debt instruments.

The line rang once. Twice. Arthur picked up, but his voice sounded strangely strained, devoid of its usual warm, sycophantic tone.

"Edmond," Arthur said flatly.

"Arthur! What the hell is going on with my sons' accounts?" Edmond demanded, stepping out of bed and pacing across the plush rug. "They’re being harassed at the docks! Their credit cards are bouncing! Fix it immediately before I move our entire firm's ninety-million-dollar portfolio to Chase!"

There was a long, heavy silence on the other end of the line.

"Edmond..." Arthur whispered, his voice trembling. "You don't have a portfolio with us anymore."

Edmond froze. His grip tightened on his phone so hard his knuckles turned white. "What did you just say?"

"At 6:00 AM today, a foreign conglomerate initiated an emergency liquidity buyout of all your firm’s underlying debt obligations," Arthur stammered, papers rustling frantically in the background.

"They exercised a hidden default clause in your secondary mortgage for the Tribeca mansion and the August firm's operational headquarters. They paid off your principal in full, acquired the titles, and restructured all your variable interest rates to five hundred percent effective immediately."

The blood drained completely from Edmond Miller’s face. His muscles went rigid. Beside him, Jessa’s relaxed smile vanished as she sat up straight, sensing the sudden, suffocating shift in the room.

"Who..." Edmond choked out, his throat suddenly bone-dry, his heart hammering violently against his ribs. "Who bought my debt, Arthur?! I am Edmond Miller! I own the August firm!"

"They didn't leave a human name, Edmond," Arthur said, his voice laced with pure terror. "The holding company that executed the transfer... it’s an offshore private syndicate registered out of Switzerland."

Arthur paused, taking a shaky breath before reading the name off his screen:

"Viktor Holdings Zurich."

Edmond stood frozen in the middle of his stolen mansion, his phone slipping an inch in his sweat-slicked palm.

Viktor Holdings Zurich?

He had spent thirty years infiltrating the highest circles of Wall Street, learning every player, every billionaire, every hedge fund titan in New York. He knew every senator, every judge, every prosecutor on the East Coast.

He had never in his life heard of Viktor Holdings.

Yet in less than two hours, this complete phantom had casually reached into his life, bought out his empire, and placed a financial noose around the necks of his entire family.

"Who the fuck is Viktor Holdings?!" Edmond roared into the phone, terror finally breaking through his arrogant facade. "WHO THE FUCK ARE THEY?!"

******

After a few stressful hours of making calls and wiring funds, Edmond managed to settle his sons' immediate bills and quiet the media. He tried to convince himself that it was just a minor setback, a temporary annoyance involving a tiny fraction of the fortune they had accumulated.

Yet deep down, a cold worm of anxiety gnawed at his gut. Who the fuck is Viktor Holdings?

Edmond spent the rest of the day burning through his contact list. He called hedge fund managers, high-ranking SEC officials, corporate lawyers, and shadow brokers across Manhattan. Nothing. It was as if Viktor Holdings didn't exist in any official directory, yet it possessed enough liquidity to move mountains in broad daylight.

Frustrated, he instructed Clara and Julian to use Croft Global’s private intelligence network to dig into the Swiss entity. They came up completely empty-handed.

Terrified of another surprise strike, Herbert and Holland retreated to the Tribeca mansion, laying low under their father's roof while nursing their bruised egos.

By the second day, the dark cloud over Edmond’s mind began to lift. A high-priority call came in from Alexander Croft, the legendary CEO of Croft Global Holdings and Julian’s father.

Alexander requested an urgent, high-level private dinner at The Grand Royal, the most exclusive, hyper-expensive luxury hotel in Midtown Manhattan.

Edmond’s heart soared. An invitation from Alexander Croft meant high-stakes business, massive profits, and elevated status.

He smugly reassured himself that Croft had no idea about the minor loan buyout or the twins' embarrassing incident at the harbor dock. Whatever shadow entity Viktor Holdings was, it couldn't touch the sheer, fortress-like political and economic power of an impending Croft-Miller merger.

That evening, Edmond dressed with meticulous care. He slipped into a bespoke twelve-thousand-dollar Italian suit, strapped a rare, gold Patek Philippe watch onto his wrist, and smoothed down his hair.

He stepped out of the mansion, revved the engine of his custom red Ferrari, and glided through the neon-lit avenues of Manhattan.

Stepping out of the valet line at The Grand Royal, Edmond handed the keys to the attendant with an arrogant smirk.

He adjusted his silk tie, feeling like the king of Wall Street once again, completely oblivious to the fact that on the top floor of the skyscraper directly across the street, a pair of cold, dark eyes was watching his every move through a high-powered lens.

Little did Edmond know, Alexander Croft hadn't called this meeting on his own terms, he had been forced to, backed into a corner by a silent, multi-trillion-dollar predator who was systematically pulling the strings from the dark.

*****

Three hours earlier, Alexander Croft’s private line had buzzed with a call directly from the Mayor of New York City.

The Mayor’s voice was breathy, almost manic, as he spilled the unbelievable news: an enigmatic, ultra-wealthy Swiss conglomerate had just agreed to fully underwrite the construction of the city’s new mega-stadium—a multi-billion-dollar architectural marvel poised to become the largest sports complex in North America.

There was no bureaucrat to bribe, no endless red-tape negotiations, and no political favors asked in return. The holding company had only listed one single condition for dropping a mountain of gold into the city’s lap: an exclusive, joint-venture alliance with Croft Global Holdings and Miller Inc.

Alexander Croft had scoffed at the mention of Miller Inc. To a titan controlling tens of billions in global infrastructure, Edmond Miller was a minor parasite—a low-tier accountant who got lucky scamming his way into a mid-sized firm.

Alexander had warned his son Julian repeatedly that Clara Miller was nothing more than a gold-digging socialite from a family of glorified scam artists. He had zero intention of ever letting Miller Inc. sit at the grown-ups' table.

Yet, when a shadow entity drops a multi-billion-dollar gift onto the city floor, even the Mayor crawls on his knees. Alexander had no choice. He had to play along.

Two years before the Hudson River... three years ago in London... Michael August had stood beside Aria Richardson, holding her hand under the warm gallery lights of Mayfair. And yet, looking at his own face in that old photograph, Michael couldn't remember a single second of that night.Michael stared at the yellowed newspaper clipping, his throat tight, his gloved fingers trembling slightly as the full, suffocating weight of the truth began to take shape in his mind. What the hell was going on?How did Silas August know all of this years in advance? Why did Michael possess memories that felt entirely distinct—two complete, parallel lives coexisting within a single mind? On one side, the poor kid from Queens who scrubbed toilets, cried over cheap roses, and nearly drowned in the Hudson. On the other, an elite, cultured aristocrat who attended £12 million art auctions in Mayfair alongside Aria Richardson. And what about the $980 trillion sovereign ledger? If the August empire was alre

The morning sun barely broke through the thick, grey mist over Queens as two massive, jet-black luxury SUVs pulled up outside the decaying brick apartment building. The street was quiet, smelling of damp asphalt and salt water from the nearby bay.Michael stepped out of the rear passenger seat. He wore a sharp grey bespoke suit, his gold medical mask firmly in place, dark sunglasses shielding his eyes, and butter-soft leather gloves encasing his hands. Beside him, Red Viktor stepped into formation, flanked by two towering Russian security detail officers. They walked up the creaking, narrow wooden staircase to the second floor, stopping at the door of his former home.Michael knocked softly.A middle-aged Mexican woman opened the door, her hair wrapped in a towel, clutching a broom defensively. Her eyes widened at the sight of four towering men in tailored suits standing in her dim hallway. Before she could speak, Michael produced a thick stack of hundred-dollar bills from his jacket

Herbert immediately pulled out his pocket knife and tried to pry the steel door open, but the mechanism hummed angrily, a sharp red LED light flashing on the keypad."Dammit, it’s locked with a twelve-digit dynamic key," Herbert cursed, smashing his fist against the wall. "Dad doesn't have this code. Silas took it to his grave.""Call Clara," Holland said quickly, pulling out his phone. "She’s got that Indian hacker on payroll. Tell her we found the wall."Ten minutes later, inside the master bedroom upstairs, Clara’s phone rang. Listening to her brothers' excited shouting from the basement, her eyes lit up with cold ambition. She immediately set up a secure three-way bridge call with Rajesh."Rajesh," Clara commanded, her tone dropping into a sharp, threatening whisper so Julian wouldn't hear her from the balcony. "My brothers are standing in front of Silas August’s private basement vault in the Tribeca house. They’ve bypassed the outer stone, but there’s a localized digital keypad.

Before heading back to the waiting Rolls-Royce, Michael guided Aria to a hyper-exclusive Italian restaurant hidden behind an unmarked mahogany door off Fifth Avenue.Inside, beneath warm crystal light and surrounded by the scent of black truffles and freshly kneaded pasta, Aria ate in quiet marvel. Michael barely touched his dish. He watched her eat, taking subtle satisfaction in seeing her cheeks flush with color and her shoulders finally relax. After dinner, Michael led the group down a cobblestone side street toward an unbranded, high-security boutique. The shop had no display windows, no neon signs, and no public entry—it catered strictly to global royalty, billionaires, and private heads of state. The moment Michael pushed open the heavy brass door, the head tailor, an impeccably dressed elder Italian man, instantly bowed his head in deep reverence."Ah, Mr. August," the tailor spoke softly, his voice trembling with immediate respect. "It is an absolute honor to see you again. C

By the second hour, all four of his broad-shouldered Russian bodyguards were buried beneath a mountain of glossy black luxury shopping bags, looking like tactical pack mules in tailored suits."We're missing a watch," Michael murmured, stopping outside the gilded entrance of an ultra-exclusive Swiss watch boutique, a boutique that catered strictly to royalty, hedge-fund billionaires, and international titans. He pushed open the heavy glass door, guiding Aria inside. The boutique was quiet, echoing with soft classical music and smelling of polished mahogany and expensive leather. Behind the velvet-lined glass counters stood a tall, slicked-back salesman wearing a crisp tux, meticulously polishing a chronograph. As Michael and Aria walked in—Michael dressed in faded denim, a black crewneck, and his gold mask; Aria in her simple jeans, the salesman glanced up. His eyes scanned their casual clothes, taking in the faded denim and Aria's modest blouse. A subtle, sneering look of utter disgu

Michael reached up, unhooking his dark sunglasses and slowly lowering the gold medical mask, exposing his face to the warm afternoon light.Aria’s breath caught subtly in her throat. Without the artificial barriers obscuring his features, his face was striking, a razor-sharp jawline, high cheekbones, and dark, intense eyes that carried a quiet, terrifying depth. He was undeniably handsome, but as her gaze lingered on his face, her brows knit together in a deep, perplexed frown.A strange, haunting sensation flickered at the back of her mind. She stared at him, her eyes tracing the line of his jaw and the subtle curve of his brow. I know him, her mind whispered, a sudden prickle of warmth washing over her skin. She was sure of it—sure as hell that she had seen those exact eyes before, and heard that low, velvet baritone echoing in a space far away from Central Park. It wasn't a vague feeling; it was a ghost of a memory, buried under two years of trauma, betrayal, and dark rooms. But
