Alison escorted Charles into the vast, elegant halls of the hotel's private portion. The most important visitors were allowed to use this area of the hotel.

As she walked, she occasionally glanced behind her at Charles. She had met many powerful people in her role at the hotel, but something about him caught her attention. It could have been his demeanor or the fact that he chose not to flaunt his wealth like other people did.

Alison has worked as the relationship manager at the hotel for almost four years. She had witnessed the extravagant lifestyles of some of the city's wealthiest residents. The hotel was known for its luxury services, catering to only those who could afford the best. Yet, Charles was different. Despite having a membership that was exclusive to the wealthiest men, he didn't wear pricey clothing. Instead, he wore an old, plain uniform, as if he had just concluded a day’s labor. This made Alison wonder if he could be one of the city’s billionaires.

Based on his appearance, she had initially thought he might be a delivery worker, someone who served the wealthy. His sensible, unadorned attire didn't fit the typical fashion of the affluent visitors she hosted. But when the receptionist validated his membership, Alison was astonished. How could someone like him afford such an exclusive membership?

But Alison knew better than to be startled. She had witnessed wealthy people entering in normal attire, fitting in rather than making a statement. Maybe Charles was one of those rare people who preferred not to attract attention.

As they walked, Alison’s curiosity about Charles grew. She started to question what his true nature was. He seemed like someone powerful, but there was a humility about him that made her stop and think. It was rare to meet someone so wealthy who didn’t boast or flaunt his money.

At last, they reached Charles's private dining room. Alison stepped aside and encouraged him to sit. The room was beautiful. Thick velvet curtains hung over large windows, giving a perfect view of the city. Warm light streamed down from glittering chandeliers above, and the floor was gleaming. The table was set with exquisite dishes, silverware, and a little arrangement of flowers in the middle.

Alison had seen all types of guys walk through the motel, but something about Charles was different. He wasn’t arrogant. He didn’t act superior. He seemed like a man who knew what he wanted and was willing to pay for the best.

“What would you like to eat, Mr. Charles?” she inquired, attempting to stay professional.

Charles, who had been quietly glancing about, grinned and responded, “Bring me the best food you have. I want to try all this hotel offers.”

Alison grinned back and nodded. She knew that guests like him often wanted to enjoy the best of everything, but there was something about his request that made it different. It wasn’t about showing off; it felt like a genuine yearning to enjoy the finest.

“I’ll bring everything right away,” she said.

As she was about to leave, she turned and caught Charles’s eye. For a moment, they locked gazes, and Alison noticed something mysterious in his look. Was he as humble as he seemed? Or was there more to him?

Alison promptly goes to the kitchen. She wanted to make sure Charles got the best of everything. She wished for his admiration. She rarely had the opportunity to make an impression on someone as prestigious as Charles.

The first dish arrived: a seafood platter filled with lobster, scallops, and oysters, all carefully arranged and topped with a light sauce. In addition, there was a selection of oils for dipping and freshly baked bread that was warm and excellent.

Next came a thick, creamy risotto, followed by lamb cooked flawlessly, covered with fresh herbs and a golden sauce that seemed like it was created of magic.

Alison returned with the dishes and placed them on the table. She couldn’t help but observe Charles’s face light up when he saw the meal. He seemed truly excited, his eyes scanning over the food with pleasure. He had been calm and quiet up until that point, but now he seemed eager to dig in.

“This all looks amazing,” Charles said quietly. “I wasn’t expecting this.”

Alison grinned, delighted to see that he was impressed. “I’m glad you like it,” she replied, watching him take a bite. It was evident from his expression that he was relishing the food, sincerely enjoying every mouthful.

Alison's interest increased as the meal continued. This man was who? What kind of life did he lead? Was he a modest millionaire, or was there more to his tale that he could keep hidden?

Alison asked, “Mr. Charles, how do you find the food? I'd be interested in hearing your opinions."

With his fork partially in his mouth, Charles hesitated. He looked at her, then spoke, “It’s amazing. Everything has the ideal flavor. This hotel truly lives up to its reputation.”

Alison felt proud hearing his praise. Someone like Charles didn't say such kind things every day. It was satisfying to hear this because of his quiet demeanor, which made it difficult to gauge how much he genuinely valued something.

“You’re very kind,” she added with a warm smile. “I’m so happy you like it.”

She was thinking about something, though, even as she spoke. She could sense a change in the air. Was this just a professional meeting, or could there be something more between them? Would they ever get to know each other outside of the hotel’s walls?

Charles broke the silence, his voice softer now. “Miss Alison, I must say, this has been an excellent experience. If you have time, will you join me? I can’t eat all of this by myself.”

Alison hesitated. She realized it wouldn't be appropriate to abandon her duties because her job came first. But the temptation was strong. She had never shared a dinner like this, nor had she ever been so intrigued by someone like Charles.

“I appreciate the offer, Mr. Charles,” she said, respectfully. “But I really should get back to work. I don’t want to take up your time.”

Charles refused to give up. "I'll make sure there are no issues if your supervisor is okay with it. Please, join me. I would like your company.”

For a moment, Alison felt the room slow down. There was something in his eyes—a tenderness, an honesty—that made her reconsider. She gave a small smile and agreed. She could sit down for a little while, enjoy the moment, and learn more about the man who had piqued her curiosity.

As they ate, a small notification appeared in front of Charles. [Completed Mission: One Black Card Point granted.] Charles's expression brightened, but he remained silent. He didn't want to disturb their quiet time together.

He was interested in the idea of bettering himself but for the time being, he was happy. He was enjoying the meal and the company, feeling like he could finally step out of the shadows. There was something about Alison that made him feel like he could do just that.

Charles sat in silence, his face calm but his mind full of thoughts. He was clearly upset, though he tried not to show it. What troubled him most at that moment was that he couldn't simply speak up and ask about the Richard they were talking about. He badly wanted to know what that conversation was about, but he knew better than to interrupt. It just wouldn’t look good. If he tried to cut in or act like he was listening in, Mr. Jackson might take it the wrong way. It would be considered rude. It might seem like he was spying on a conversation that wasn’t meant for him, and that would create a bad impression. Not long after that, Mr. Jackson stood up from his seat and quietly walked out of the meeting room. Charles watched him leave, then slowly exhaled. He breathed out deeply like someone who had been holding something heavy inside. His expression looked distant, as if his thoughts had traveled far away. Anyone watching him closely could easily tell that something was on his mind. Ali

Ethan was taken by surprise when he turned around and saw the Governor standing quietly behind him. I noticed you were about to leave, but if you can, stay a little longer. I’d like to have a quick word with you.”“Yes, of course,” Ethan replied right away. He was relieved that the Governor didn’t seem upset. He walked a bit closer to the railing where the Governor stood, curious about what he wanted to talk about.“Good,” Lawrence said. “You seem to be a capable man. Just like your... friend here.”“My friend?” Ethan repeated, looking confused. Who did the Governor mean? Then it clicked. He realized Lawrence was talking about Sophia. Appar

Ethan was very pleased with what he had just heard. A big smile slowly formed on his face. He stood up from his seat without thinking twice and stretched out his hand for a handshake. He honestly didn’t think Charles would return the gesture, because Charles usually kept to himself. But to Ethan’s surprise, Charles reached forward and shook his hand with a firm grip. That small gesture was everything to Ethan. In that moment, Ethan became convinced that Charles had fallen completely for the story he had carefully crafted. Charles trusted him now—or so it seemed. Ethan didn’t expect things to turn around so quickly or so smoothly, but it had, and for that, he was deeply thankful.“This must be my lucky day,” he thought to himself, still smiling inside.Charles gave him a polite nod and said, “Okay, you can go now. I’ve got some other matters I need to handle.”Ethan tilted his head, pretending to be a little confused, and asked, “But I thought I was now part of your inner circle. Doesn

Charles finally snapped out of it. His heart was thudding hard in his chest like a heavy drumbeat. For a moment, everything had gone blank in his mind, like time had stopped and all his thoughts had vanished. But now, as he blinked and his focus returned, he could clearly see the car just inches away from him. It was right there—so close, it made his skin crawl.Acting fast, driven by pure instinct, he jumped back with all the strength his legs could muster. The tires of the speeding car screeched so loudly it pierced his ears. The car skidded to a stop, just in time. The smell of burnt rubber filled the air. That could have ended his life. It was far too close—closer than anything had ever come before. The driver’s door suddenly burst open, and the man behind the wheel jumped out in a panic. His face had turned a sickly pale, and his hands were trembling so hard they barely looked steady. Without wasting a single second, he ran straight toward Charles, his whole body shaking from fea

After helping Ethan earlier that evening, Charles Grey leaned back into the soft leather of his office chair and let out a long, deep sigh. His shoulders slumped slightly as the pressure from the day slowly started to leave his body. It had been an exhausting, eventful day. He felt it in his bones. What he really needed now was some rest—just some quiet time to let his mind settle. But instead of fully relaxing, his thoughts drifted straight to the conversation he had with Ethan. He thought again about Ethan’s offer and what he had said. Somehow, it didn’t feel right to him. In fact, the more he thought about it, the more it seemed like a trap. Something about it just didn’t add up. Ethan had made a big claim, but it was all too sudden, too convenient. It felt like bait.Still, Charles knew there was only one way to be sure whether Ethan was serious or just playing games. He needed proof.
