“She knows my name?”

Xavier stared at the Holy Maiden.

For a moment, neither of them spoke.

Then the Holy Maiden's lips curved slightly.

“You're probably wondering how I know your name.”

Xavier's expression stiffened.

She noticed.

“I just did a little research.”

“Basically, I had you investigated.”

“Investigated?” Xavier asked.

“Yes.”

She folded her hands calmly in her lap.

“Finding information about an unawakened porter isn't particularly difficult.”

‘Of course...’

Xavier remained silent.

The Holy Maiden continued.

“I got some basic information. Your registration. Your Awakening results. Your occupation...”

Her golden eyes narrowed slightly.

“...Your history. But none of those could hint to me what I needed.”

Xavier's fingers tightened against the sheets.

“So…”

She looked directly into his eyes.

“What exactly are you?”

Xavier hesitated.

“I already told you.”

The Holy Maiden raised an eyebrow.

“You haven't though.”

“Sorry, I mean…”

Xavier swallowed.

“...You already know what I am.”

He lowered his gaze.

“I'm an unawakened porter.”

The Holy Maiden didn't respond.

His voice carried a faint bitterness.

“I still haven't been able to awaken. I couldn't even become a low Awakened.”

Silence.

“Hmmm... So how does an unawakened porter clear a horde of goblins alone?”

Xavier froze.

He had no answer.

The Holy Maiden waited.

Xavier looked away.

The room suddenly felt smaller.

He remembered the dungeon.

The blood.

The bodies.

His hands gripping the sword.

The goblin beneath him.

The System.

“I…”

Nothing came.

The Holy Maiden watched him carefully.

“You don't have to tell me everything.”

Her voice remained gentle.

“But you entered a dungeon belonging to my party without permission.”

“And when we found you, dozens of goblins were dead.”

Her gaze sharpened.

“The least you can do is answer my questions.”

Xavier lowered his head.

She wasn't wrong.

But what could he possibly tell her?

I have a system?

He couldn't say that.

He didn't even understand it himself.

Xavier took a slow breath.

“I...I apologize but it is something I cannot tell you.”

The Holy Maiden's expression didn't change.

“A secret?”

“Yes.”

“What kind?”

“I... can't tell you that.”

The atmosphere changed.

Not dramatically.

There was no shout.

No threat.

But Xavier suddenly felt something cold crawl across his skin.

[Warning.]

His eyes widened.

[Hostile Intent Detected.]

Xavier's heart skipped.

‘What?’

His breathing stopped for half a second.

‘What the hell?’

He looked at the Holy Maiden.

Her expression was still calm.

She wasn't even angry.

‘Its not her.’

Xavier's eyes shifted.

[The Individual Behind You.]

Xavier's pupils contracted.

‘Behind me?’

He glanced toward the doorway.

Nothing.

The room was empty.

At least as far as he could see.

Then a voice came from beside him.

“You should choose your next words carefully.”

Xavier jolted.

Alexandria was standing there.

He didn't even know she was in the room.

Her face was expressionless.

But her eyes.

They were cold.

One hand rested near the weapon at her waist.

She wasn't attacking.

She didn't need to.

The message was clear enough.

Xavier swallowed.

The Holy Maiden looked toward her.

“Alexandria.”

The pressure vanished.

Alexandria immediately stepped back.

“My apologies, my lady.”

“It's fine.”

The Holy Maiden looked back at Xavier.

“Continue.”

Xavier stared at Alexandria for a moment before turning away.

He really had to be careful.

“I apologize.”

He lowered his head.

“But I truly cannot tell anyone about my secret.”

The Holy Maiden studied him.

For several seconds, she said nothing.

Then she asked.

“Is your secret dangerous to humanity?”

Xavier looked up.

“No.”

The answer came quickly.

Too quickly.

The Holy Maiden noticed.

“Are you certain?”

Xavier opened his mouth.

Nothing came out.

His eyes lowered.

Was he certain?

He had only known about the System for a short time.

He didn't know where it came from.

He didn't know what it was capable of.

He didn't know why it had chosen him.

And he certainly didn't know what would happen if it succeeded.

So how could he promise that it wasn't dangerous?

The Holy Maiden watched the hesitation.

She didn't press him.

Instead, she asked something else.

“Is your secret related to your eyes?”

Xavier stiffened.

His hand instinctively rose toward his face.

“My eyes?”

“Your red eyes.”

For a moment, Xavier didn't answer.

That question again.

His entire life, those eyes had been the first thing people noticed.

The first thing they judged.

The first thing they feared.

He looked away.

“No.”

His voice was quiet.

“They have nothing to do with it.”

The Holy Maiden watched him.

“You're certain?”

“Yes.”

A pause.

Then...

“Xavier Reed.”

Her voice now lower.

“How much do you know about demons?”

Xavier blinked.

The question came so suddenly that he almost thought he'd heard it wrong.

“Demons?”

“Yes.”

“I don't know much.”

He frowned.

“I know what everyone knows.”

“Which is?”

“Demonic beasts.”

The Holy Maiden's expression remained unchanged.

“The creatures that emerged from the Gates.”

Xavier hesitated.

“Tha...that's all.”

Her golden eyes remained on him.

She had expected that answer.

But somehow, it didn't make her feel better.

There was something about the energy within him.

Something that reminded her of things humanity wasn't supposed to know.

Something her Divine Eyes had warned her about the moment she saw him.

Danger.

Not ordinary danger.

Not the danger of a powerful Awakened.

No.

Something deeper.

Something Wrong.

And yet, the boy sitting before her didn't look like a monster.

He looked exhausted.

Confused.

Frightened.

Human.

The Holy Maiden's gaze softened.

“How much do you know about angels?”

“Angels?”

“Yes.”

He thought for a moment.

“Not much either.” He responded.

He looked toward the window.

“I know that after God vanished, the angels began manifesting their power to humanity.”

The Holy Maiden remained still.

“Some of them became the figures worshipped by the newer churches.”

Xavier continued.

“Different churches worship different divine beings.”

He shrugged weakly.

“But as far as I know, they're all angels.”

“They basically became a new Faith for humanity.”

A faint smile appeared on the Holy Maiden's lips.

“You know more than most.”

Xavier looked at her.

“Is that wrong?”

“No.”

Her smile faded.

“It isn't.”

Silence settled between them again.

The Holy Maiden looked at him.

Really looked at him.

Her Divine Eyes activated beneath her golden irises.

For an instant, the world changed.

She saw Xavier's body.

His damaged but recovering flesh.

His life force.

The strange energy intertwined with him.

[External Divine Power Is Trying To Observe The System.]

[System Will Not Permit This A Second Time.]

‘Huh? Permit what?’

Then he looked at her more carefully.

The glow in her eyes made him understand.

The Holy Maiden continued.

The impossible structure hidden beneath the surface.

Her eyes widened slightly.

Still There.

Whatever it was.

It hadn't disappeared.

It was still inside him.

Watching.

Waiting.

The Holy Maiden closed her Divine Eyes.

She didn't know what it was.

But she knew one thing.

Her Divine Eyes had never shown her anything like this.

And they had never warned her so strongly.

‘He shouldn't exist.’

The thought surfaced again.

She pushed it away.

She would not judge him based solely on what she saw.

Not yet.

She had to know who he was.

Not what her eyes claimed he was.

The Holy Maiden leaned slightly forward.

“One last question.”

Xavier's shoulders tensed.

He waited.

Her golden eyes met his.

“Have you ever killed anyone?”

Xaviers body paused.

The room went silent.

His mind immediately returned to the dungeon.

The first goblin.

The sword in his hands.

Then the others.

One after another.

Fifty-nine.

His fingers slowly clenched into a fist.

He opened his mouth.

No words came out.

The Holy Maiden watched him carefully.

And for the first time after the system.

Xavier wasn't sure whether he should tell the truth.
