~ ~ ~ ~ ~

For several seconds, nobody moved.

Xavier stared at his fist.

Blood dripped from the cut across his left palm.

His chest rose and fell.

The hunter laid several feet away groaning in pain.

Xavier slowly lowered his hand.

‘What just happened?’

He looked at the others.

They were staring at their leader.

Then at Xavier.

Then back at their leader.

None of them seemed to understand what they had just witnessed.

Xavier took a cautious step backward.

The hunters immediately moved toward their fallen leader.

“Boss!”

“Are you alright?”

“Boss, get up!”

The leader groaned.

His hand moved to his chest.

He coughed as he slowly pushed himself upright.

“I'm fine.”

His voice was strained.

One of the hunters reached for him.

“Boss...”

“I said I'm fine!”

He shoved the man's hand away.

The leader struggled to stand.

His legs shook for a moment, but he forced himself upright.

He pressed a hand against his chest.

Pain shot through his body.

That punch had hurt.

A lot.

But he refused to show it.

His eyes moved toward Xavier.

‘How?’

His mind raced.

‘How the hell did an unawakened hit me like that?’

He had felt the impact.

There was no trick.

No weapon.

Just a fist.

Maybe...

His eyes narrowed.

‘Martial arts?’

That had to be it.

Perhaps Xavier had learned some kind of technique.

Something that increased the force of a strike at the moment of impact.

It was the only explanation that made sense.

The leader clenched his teeth.

He wouldn't let an unawakened porter defeat him.

Not in front of his men.

He reached down and picked up his sword.

“Leave him.”

The others looked at him.

“Boss?”

“I said leave him to me.”

“But you're injured...”

“Do I look injured to you?”

The leader glared at them.

Nobody answered.

His gaze returned to Xavier.

He started walking towards him.

One step.

Then another.

His movements were slower than before.

Xavier noticed.

‘He's hurt.’

The hunter stopped several feet away.

Xavier looked at his fist again.

Then at the leader.

“What... was that?”

The System's voice appeared inside his mind.

[See?]

Xavier blinked.

‘See what?’

[The System Told You.]

[You Underestimate yourself.]

Xavier looked down at his hands.

The System had been telling him.

He just hadn't believed it.

The leader suddenly charged.

Xavier's instincts took over.

The sword swung toward his neck.

Xavier ducked.

The blade passed over his head.

The leader immediately followed with another slash.

Xavier stepped backward.

The blade cut through empty air.

Another swing.

Xavier moved again.

He barely avoided the blade.

‘He's fast.’ Xavier thought.

The leader swung again.

This time, Xavier moved in.

He blocks the leaders swinging arm with his left hand.

The leader's eyes widened.

Before the Leader could react, Xavier punches him across the face.

BOOM!

The leader's head snapped sideways.

Xavier followed with another punch.

Then another.

The leader staggered backward.

Xavier didn't stop.

He swung again.

His fist crashed into the hunter's jaw.

The man's body stumbled.

Xavier stepped forward and kicked him in the stomach.

The leader flew backward and crashed onto the floor.

Silence.

Xavier stared.

His breathing quickened.

He looked at his hands.

Then at the man on the ground.

A smile slowly appeared on his face.

‘I can do this.’

For the first time since waking up in that dungeon, something inside Xavier changed.

He wasn't helpless.

He wasn't weak.

He could actually fight.

He could overpower an E-rank hunter.

“Wow...”

He stared at his hands smiling.

[There Are Four More.]

Xavier's smile disappeared.

“...Oh.”

He slowly turned around.

The other four hunters were already moving.

‘Shit.’

One rushed toward him.

Xavier dodged the first punch.

He countered with one of his own.

His fist connected with the hunter's stomach.

The man staggered.

Another attack came from the side.

Xavier ducked.

A kick passed over his head.

He spun and punched the attacker.

The hunter stumbled backward.

Xavier barely had time to react before another fist grazed his cheek.

Pain shot through his body.

He staggered.

‘They're fast.’

Another attack came.

Xavier raised his arms.

The impact forced him backward.

These weren't goblins.

They were trained hunters.

They worked together.

One attacked while another created an opening.

Xavier dodged another strike.

Then another.

He landed a punch.

The hunter stumbled.

But before Xavier could follow up,

The ground beneath him moved.

Roots burst from the floor.

They wrapped around his legs.

Xavier's eyes widened.

“What the?...”

The roots tightened.

His legs were pinned.

He tried to move.

Nothing.

One of the hunters grinned.

“Got you.”

Xavier looked up.

A fist was already coming toward his face.

The hunter's arm changed.

Rock-like material spread across his hand.

The fist slammed into Xavier's face.

BOOM!

Pain exploded through his skull.

His vision went white.

Then black.

For a second, he couldn't see anything.

His body staggered.

‘I... can't...’

His knees almost buckled.

‘Not yet.’ He gritted his teeth.

His vision slowly returned.

Blurred shapes.

Four figures.

He couldn't pass out.

If he passed out now...

It was over.

Something moved in front of him.

Xavier didn't think.

His hand shot forward.

He grabbed the hunter by the throat.

The hunter's eyes widened.

“What...”

Xavier pulled him closer.

CRACK!

His forehead slammed into the hunter's face.

The man stumbled, blood dripping down his nose.

[Fatigue: 65]

Xavier twisted his body and forced himself forward.

The roots tightened around his legs.

He pulled.

Nothing.

He pulled again.

His muscles strained.

The roots began to crack.

“Get... off!”

Xavier roared.

He pulled with everything he had.

CRACK!

The roots broke.

Xavier stumbled free.

His Crimson eyes immediately locked onto the hunter who had created them.

‘That one.’

The roots.

The battlefield control.

He was the problem.

Xavier rushed forward.

The hunter's expression changed.

“Wait...”

Xavier grabbed his face.

Then slammed his head into the ground.

BOOM!

The hunter went limp.

Xavier stood over him, breathing heavily.

‘One down.’

He turned.

Three hunters remained.

The leader was still on the ground.

The other three stared at Xavier.

For the first time, fear appeared in their eyes.

Xavier didn't notice.

He was too focused on breathing.

His lungs burned.

His muscles hurt.

His face throbbed.

His injured hand was still bleeding.

But he couldn't stop.

One of the hunters charged.

Xavier met him halfway.

A punch.

Xavier dodged.

Another punch.

He blocked.

The hunter kicked.

Xavier stepped aside.

Then slammed his fist into the man's ribs.

The hunter grunted.

Another attacker came from behind.

Xavier turned too late.

The fist struck his back.

Pain exploded through his body.

He stumbled forward.

He spun around almost immediately.

His fist connected with the attacker's face.

The hunter fell backward.

The third one rushed him.

Xavier raised his arms.

The impact forced him backward.

He gritted his teeth.

He pushed forward.

Punch.

Block.

Dodge.

Another punch.

A kick caught his side.

He stumbled.

He attacked again.

He didn't know what he was doing.

There was no technique.

No training.

No strategy.

Only instinct.

His body moved before his mind could think.

He dodged.

He struck.

He blocked.

He endured.

Again.

And again.

Until eventually...

POW!

Xavier lands a counter punch.

The final hunter fell.

[Fatigue: 87]

[Impressive.]

[Host Managed To Overpower Five E-Ranks While Being an Unawakened]

[Rewarded 10 free Stat points.]

“So I get rewarded for things like this too?” Xavier asks, too tired to be excited.

[As Long As The System Finds It Impressive, You will be Rewarded.]

“I see...”

Xavier stands in the middle of the room.

His chest heaved violently.

His arms hung at his sides.

Blood ran down his face.

His left hand was still bleeding.

His entire body hurt.

But he was standing.

All five hunters were on the ground.

Xavier looked around.

The room was silent.

He stared at the bodies.

Then at his hands.

“...What now?”

No answer.

Xavier swallowed.

He had escaped.

He had survived.

But what was he supposed to do with them?

He looked at the hunters again.

They were still alive.

Barely moving.

Then the System spoke.

[Kill Them.]

Xavier froze.

The words felt like a bomb on his heart.

His eyes widened.

“...What?”

[Kill Them.]

Xavier stared at the hunters.

The System repeated itself.

[Kill Them.]
