Bose stepped out of the black SUV, her stiletto heels clicking softly on the tiled pavement as the early Saturday sun cast shadows around the business venue. She adjusted the shawl on her shoulder, keeping her poise as always, her perfume was faint but elegant.

Her driver had already pulled away after dropping her off. Just as she began to approach the main building, she noticed a black tinted car parked two blocks behind. It wasn’t the first time she had seen it today.

Something about the way it remained still, its windows shielded like darkened mirrors, unsettled her. She had seen it on her way here, first at the roundabout, then again behind her just after she made a U-turn at the last intersection.

But she had dismissed it, convincing herself it was just her mind playing games again—too many nights spent worrying about Jalen, too many hours consumed by fear.

Now, the same vehicle was just parked there. It didn’t move. No one stepped out. Bose paused briefly, debating whether to

That night, in a corner restaurant tucked away from the busy streets, Tiana sat in a private booth, her back straight, her eyes fixed on the entrance. She wore a dark coat, her hair pulled back, her face glowing under the dim yellow light. This meeting had been carefully arranged, the location chosen to avoid unnecessary eyes. She had waited long enough for the mysterious message she received days ago to turn into reality. At exactly eight o’clock, the door opened and a man slipped inside. He wasn’t someone many would notice in a crowd; his presence quiet, his steps almost too cautious. He adjusted his glasses as he scanned the room before making his way to Tiana’s table.“Ms. Brooks,” he said in a low tone, acknowledging her with a small nod.Tiana studied him, her eyes sharp. “So you are the one who sent the message,” she replied. The man sat opposite her, leaning slightly forward. His name was Mr. Kene, a junior executive in the financial department of Adesins Corporation. He

  • Chapter 140: Another Tiana in Disguise?

The fallout from the leaked story about Aisha spread faster than wildfire. By mid-morning, the hospital compound was swarming with journalists, their cameras flashing at every possible angle, their voices overlapping as they shouted questions.“Mr. Adesina, is it true your girlfriend once worked with Carlos Arturo?”“Are you aware she had dealings with the Arturo Corporation?”“Do you still trust her after all these revelations?”The security men struggled to control them, forming a barricade at the hospital gate, but the frenzy didn’t reduce. The air was thick with tension, the kind that could suffocate even the strongest heart. Inside, Jalen sat up in his hospital bed, pale and still recovering, his mind torn apart by the noise from outside and the chaos within. He had survived bullets, betrayal, and business storms, but this, this test of loyalty and love seemed heavier than all.Aisha stood by the window, staring at the crowd below. Her hands trembled as she pressed them against

  • Chapter 139: Whispers of Betrayal

The morning of the meeting came with a weight Jalen could feel deep in his bones. His body was still weak, stitched with fresh wounds, yet his mind refused to rest. By nine o’clock, the company car pulled into the wide compound of the board’s headquarters. Jalen sat in the back seat, his face pale but his eyes focused. A wheelchair waited by the entrance, Fiona standing beside it with files tucked under her arm.“Sir, are you sure about this?” she whispered as the driver opened the door.Jalen gave her a small nod. “If I don’t show up, I’ve already lost. Help me down.”He was settled into the chair, every movement sharp with pain, but he clenched his jaw and waved for Fiona to push him forward. The wide glass doors parted, and immediately whispers filled the hall. Some of the board members stood to greet him, others sat stiff, their eyes heavy with doubt.Inside the conference room, Mr. Okonta sat at the head of the table. His face was calm, unreadable, his fingers tapping gently o

  • Chapter 138: When Trust is Tested

Bose was in the living room that evening, her wrapper tied firmly around her waist as she moved restlessly from one corner to the other. Joy sat quietly on the sofa, scrolling on her phone, but her mother’s deep sighs were loud enough to disturb anyone’s peace.“This is becoming too much,” Bose finally said, her voice sharp. “That girl - Aisha, what is she still doing around your brother? Haven’t we suffered enough as a family? Everywhere trouble follows Jalen, and now he has carried another woman into his life. Can’t he see what’s at stake?”Joy lifted her head, frowning at her mother. “Mummy, that’s not fair. Aisha has been there for him all through. You didn’t see how she stayed by his side at the hospital, refusing to sleep or eat until he opened his eyes. She cares about him, genuinely. Why can’t you see that?”Bose stopped pacing and fixed her daughter with a long stare. “Care? That is how it always starts. A woman comes close, claims she cares, and before you know it, she leav

  • Chapter 137

The next morning, the hospital room that had been quiet through the night suddenly filled with a flood of emotions. The door creaked open, and Bose stepped inside, her wrapper neatly tied, her face still carrying the weary dignity of a woman who had seen far too much of life’s battles. Beside her was Joy, younger and vibrant, her eyes wide with both fear and excitement. The moment Joy saw her brother on the hospital bed, her voice broke into a sob. “Brother!” she cried as she rushed forward. She threw herself into his arms, hugging him tightly but carefully, mindful of the bandages and the machines hooked to his body. Jalen let out a soft wince at the pressure but wrapped one arm gently around her. His lips curved into a faint smile.Bose followed, slower, her steps heavy with emotions. When she reached the bed, she pressed her palm against her chest as tears began to flow. “Oh, my son,” she whispered. “I thought I had lost you.”The air in the room was thick with emotions. Aisha,

  • Chapter 136: Restless Recovery

Jalen lay on the hospital bed with his chest bandaged and his arm resting weakly on the thin white sheet. The machines around him beeped quietly, registering every breath and heartbeat. The doctors had told him only yesterday that he was lucky to be alive, that the bullets could easily have ended his life. But for Jalen, luck had never been enough. He was restless, his body fighting against the stillness the hospital demanded of him. His eyes, sharp even in his weakness, darted from the ceiling to the window and back again. The doctor had passed by twice already that morning, reminding him sternly that he needed rest. But Jalen had no rest in his mind. He had seen too much blood, heard too many threats, and watched death come close to his door. Every passing minute felt wasted if he was not protecting the people that mattered to him.Aisha sat on the couch close to the bed, her palms folded on her laps, watching him with quiet worry. She could see the impatience on his face, the w
