Chapter: Chapter Nine
Vivian stood her ground. “ She's Busy.”Holt’s eyes widened “She texted me.”“Did she?” Jake said, stepping forward.Holt turned slowly to face the unfamiliar voice.“Who the hell are you?” Holt asked.Vivian’s voice was calm. “Michael’s son.”Holt froze in silence and shock ran through his veins. The wind moved between them. He laughed once. Cold.“So this is the Kane brat? You’ve been hiding him?”Jake stared at him. “You expected Diane. Sorry to disappoint.”Holt looked amused. “You thought this was smart? Luring me here? You think I’d come without backup?”Vivian’s eyes widened. “You didn’t.”Holt’s hand slipped beneath his coat. The glint of steel flashed before the gun raised. He fired.Vivian cried out, the shot grazed her shoulder, cutting her flesh slightly.“I'll send you right where I sent your boss” Holt said in laughter.Jake moved forward as she staggered.Vivian threw her gun.Jake caught it mid air as he dropped to the floor, and shot. One shot.He pulled the trigger.

Chapter: Chapter Eight
Vivian’s eyes narrowed. “Maybe she’s not just a Carter.”Jake looked up.Vivian continued. “If she’s sniffing around, then she’s either working with Holt… or she’s getting too close to finding you.”Jake’s voice dropped. “You think she suspects?”“No. But Holt might.”Jake paced. “The Carters think I’m just Amanda’s embarrassment. I’ll stay that way. Go back to the mansion. Be the broke son-in-law, quiet and harmless. While Diane’s unconscious, I'll keep an eye on her phone, and wait for any call, if Holt was at the bar, he would call and lead me straight to him, he's been wanting to see me, so have i”.“And if she’s loyal to Holt?” Vivian asked.“I’ll find out. Either she’s playing both sides… or she just made herself a target.” Jake said and left in his Honda to the Carter mansion.“What was so important, that you had to leave the hospital?” Amanda asked as Jake tried to enter his room which was just opposite hers.“Wel… well I had a quick delivery to make,” Jake said avoiding eye

Chapter: Chapter Seven
“Why now?” Diane muttered, more to herself than to him.“She’s obviously playing a game and up to something that definitely won't favor us,” Holt said. “And she’s got the influence. That black card’s real. The accounts are active again.”Diane stood, walking to the window. “You need me to find out who it is,” she said.“Yes,” Holt replied. “Quietly, with no trace. If she gets the upper hand…”“She won’t,” Diane cut in. “I still have ears around, If the heir’s anywhere close to us, I’ll know.”“Good,” Holt said. “And Diane…”She paused. “What?”“If Vivian learns what we did to Michael… what you did…”Diane’s eyes darkened. “She won’t.”“Let’s hope not,” Holt said and ended the call.Diane stared at her reflection in the glass. Her heartbeat was still normal, but her thoughts and mind weren't.If the heir was already in motion… if he was close…She couldn’t afford mistakes. Not now. Not after all these years. She turned from the window and made a call of her own.“Get me access to Kane

Chapter: Chapter Six
Amanda nodded, biting her lip. “I don’t know everything yet. But maybe we’ve been blind. Maybe Jake’s hiding something huge.”The room went silent. Diane looked at Ethan. “If that’s true, then we need to rethink everything.”Ethan ran a hand through his hair. “We can’t afford to underestimate him again.”Amanda’s heart beated faster. The man they’d pushed around might be about to turn the tables. “We need to find out exactly what Jake is up to,” she said. “Before it’s too late.”Diane’s eyes narrowed. “So what, we keep pretending he’s less than us?”“No,” Amanda said coldly. “We watch. We wait. And when the time is right, we hit.”Ethan nodded slowly. “No more underestimating Jake, but we'll treat him like he's still sh!t, he shouldn't have a clue or think we scared, but this might be an illusion”Amanda’s lips curved into a small, dangerous smile. “Exactly. anything that happens… we’re ready.”The following morning, Diane sat at the head of the breakfast table, stirring her coffee, w

Jake snatched a piece of bread and shoved it into his mouth, crumbs spilling everywhere.Greg laughed from across the room. “Look at the dog eating!”Jake’s throat tightened. He didn’t respond. He just swallowed hard and stumbled out the door. The morning sun hit Jake’s face, making it turn red. Crumbs were still on his shirt. Amanda walked out with her purse swinging.“Let’s go, Jake,” she said sharply. “Don’t slow me down.” Her cold tone hurt more than Diane’s stare. Jake followed behind her, head down, feeling like a stray dog walking after its owner. At the market, Amanda gave him heavy bags filled with fruit and meat. “Carry these, Jake,” she said. People stared and whispered, “Is that her servant?” Jake’s arms hurt, but he said nothing. Amanda rolled her eyes. “You’re useless, but at least you are here.”Jake’s face squeezed, he couldn't wait to get over with his plans, but when would that be?Amanda got some apples and threw them at Jake “Catch, loser,” she said, laughing as i

Chapter: Chapter Four
Carl’s walkie-talkie buzzed as he called Amanda. She quickly showed up at the gate, annoyed. “Why’s he here?”Jake leaned close to the gate, speaking quietly but firmly, looking at Carl. “Tell Amanda I’m not signing the divorce papers yet. I want to save our marriage.” It was a lie, but he said it anyway. He noticed Carl’s sympathetic look and hoped Amanda’s guilt would let him in. Carl passed on the message, Amanda sighed. “Fine, let him in. But keep an eye on him.”The gate buzzed and opened. Carl grinned. “You’re pathetic, Jake. Good luck.” Jake nodded, looking defeated. Their insults only pushed him harder to follow his plan: take their abuse, get into their house, get what's rightfully his, and get his revenge. He walked up the gravel path and saw Amanda at the mansion door, wearing a sharp navy dress, her eyes showing both pity and irritation. “You’re embarrassing me, Jake,” she said coldly, though her voice shook slightly. “You can stay in the guest room. Don’t touch anything
