Chapter# 5

"Miss Heath, do you mind explaining your absence for two weeks straight", Mr Roth frowned.

That's when the class have up talking. An interesting topic to indulge. Well, it's Ms. Freak they're gonna discuss. A girl with strange looks, strange happenings and insane family.

I cleared my throat."I had some issues but rest assured, they're now resolved", I said in my normal, seditious tone. My nonchalance. It's funny how hard I try to be nonchalant.

But no, no matter how hard I try with my pretended chill, Mr. Roth just picks a needle in my chill bubble. He always makes me look like a criminal, in front of the whole class.

"Repulsive as ever", Jessica exhaled sharply through her nostrils. Her just hate her snubbing laugh.

"Okay, take your seat".

He continued with his hovering of Biology.

I felt like I'm being stared at.

Lydia.

My only friend since elementary. She has both beauty and brains. Not bad with boys either.

Jason on her front, unfolded a note or something when she spanked his behind.

"Pass!", she whispered crisply.

I eyed the tossing until it sat on my desk. I caged in my fist then skipped it in my lap and unfolded the wrinkled note.

Lydia's cursive and stroked handwriting caught my attention.

It read:

*You neglected your bonafide friend by not answering any calls. Woman you're in biiiig trouble!*

I blinked up at her, she was resting her head down and her lids drooped slowly.

I turned to Mr. Roth, who was busy filling the board with the mess animals and us have inside.

I yell-whispered, unleashing my vast repertoire, "Lydia... Lydia... Lydia!".

But no, Mr. Roth has these abnormality detecting sensors on himself. He spun on his heels like he knew already.

"Miss Wilder!", my heart missed a beat as he said it. I mean I'm not afraid of his child-like punishments but he has something which I'm afraid of. Whenever he looks at me, my heart starts to pump at a level a doubt people can get a heart attack at. I feel like he knows how messed up me and my life are or worse what I'm up to.

Anyway, the class roared with laughter at her pretence as she jerked up like a bot then glancing at the diagram, doodled down.

"Stand up!", he thumped down his book on the table.

"Which animal species don't have lungs?", he asked in a proud tone, certain that she won't be able to answer.

"Hmmm... Maggots don't have lungs. I murdered and disected one back at my grandma's".

"Sit down, killing maggots saved you this time", he said, "So most of the species of insects don't have lungs they have other mechanisms like use of skin etc.".

And Lydia sat like she scored, with her chest puffed out at an extraordinary level.

I rolled my eyes.

"What's wrong with you?", Lydia came running after me, halting an arm between my locker.

"Nothing you can fix"

"If you won't spit the shit out then how in the fucking hell can I?", she said, "Why are you avoiding me? I mean how could you?", she frowned.

"For the thousandth time, I'm not!"

"You are. Fine! Then be it!"

I clutched her hand back, "We need to talk", I said, "Lemme_"

"Maggots! So you weren't coming at my place since you were busy disecting some bloody maggots?", Tyler cuts in with Jason.

"Maggots are better than you atleast, Tyler!", she said.

I'm getting really irritated by their interference.

"Hey, Lij!" Tyler called, "Washed all the shit soon?".

"What?" I was confused by which shit he's talking about.

"You fell in the sewer, right?"

"Ha, ha", I remarked dully.

"Hey, that was a good one. How come you don't smile?", Jason asked.

Someone caught my attention back in the hallway. They were two police officers. I don't know but my gut is screaming noisily that they are after me. I mean why else would they come in highschool?

Some guy led them in a room and I swear their faces were nasty and tight like it's something important.

I did weird things one night, last week. I returned home with a butcher's knife and had my face and clothes covered in blood. I'm afraid of my own self.

Behind me, Tyler kept on calling my name like he's raping or something. And just beside him Lydia was laughing like some fool. All narrow eyes and teeth.

I looked back one more time. I'm starting to panic a bit.

And I can't believe Tyler did that.

That morone snapped my bra.

Enough to trigger more of my rising panic.

"Listen here, Punk! You did that one more time and swear this Jason here, will be looking for graves!".

"Chill up! Those words don't fit your face", Jason said.

"Or maybe I'd be looking for two!".

"Okay, you guys try slinging our hooks less. Now get going. Shuuu shuuu".

"Yeah, take your bellicose weirdo away, Tyler snapped,"Gee!".

"Sure thing, punk!", I called.

I slammed my locker door shut and hoisted my backpack up on both shoulders.

We walked past the hallway together and she prompted,"Stop being a coy, give it up!".

"I don't know where to start", I bit my lip.

"You probably should've answered my calls".

"It was Steve first, we broke up and then I went clubbing. Something awful happened to me there and I fell sick. Maybe I fell somewhere...".

"Whoa... Whoa... Tell that bullshit to the tourists", she raised her hands dramatically," You broke up with Steve? Poor guy, he took it straight to the heart".

"What do you mean?"

"No wonder he isn't coming. What happened anyway, between you two?"

"Nothing, Lydia. He was just acting strange, worse than strange. He said really mean things to me. He crushed my spirit!", I think again what she said, "Steve hasn't been coming?".

"No, it's been like two weeks. I thought you two are off to somewhere. But...".

She waved her hand to someone, "Hey, Susan! Wait up!", and dashed away.

I was alone on my moment of epiphany. Me returning home, drunk and tired and covered in blood. Me not remembering where was I and I had been doing. Me coming from the pub in bruises.

I dread, like really dread what I'm about to say.

I think...

I think, maybe I murdered Steve.
