HIS RESURGENCE CHAPTER 21Xavier slowly opened his eyes, his vision blurry. He blinked severally and tried to sit up. The searing pain he felt jogged his memory. He remembered the meeting and then going back to the hotel. He remembered the car that followed them to the airport, and then the gunshot. How is that even possible?” Don Alfredo asked in disbelief.“Nothing came up on the security footage. The person who brought in the bottle of water was in the police uniform alright, but he wasn’t one of them. No one knew him. I guess with all the commotion, nobody noticed that he was a stranger. She had had to fill in for Xavier in some meetings while he attended others.She peeled into Xavier’s office to see if he was back too. He was in his office. He stood close to the widow, one hand in his pocket. He always took that posture when he answered the phone.“Sure dad, I can come over for dinner. There were lots of books on several.shelves, a desk and chairs.“Have a seat.” She heard someone say. It was a woman. She was seated at a corner where it would be impossible to make out her face. She could tell from her silhouette that it was a middle aged woman, probably in her early fourties. She looked like a rich woman and her aura exuded power. She sat down, her hands placed on her laps.“You know why you’re here don’t you?” The woman asked.“Yes ma’am.” She replied.“And what exactly is that, tell me?”“I am going to be the face of your newly acquired company.
