CHAPTER 241
The night was young and beautiful. Stars were brimming brightly in the dark skies. Nathan sat on the Adirondack chair, enjoying the view. This was something he normally would not have the time to do as a big businessman. Mr. Frost was either working or working. So, being here was a priceless moment. He brought out his phone and began scrolling through his gallery. Pictures of him and Candace together were both a cold ice and a hot metal at the same time. He scrolled tirelessly until his eyes could no longer hold back the water. It came flowing down. His breath quickened. His tears were as cold as the wind that swept past his skin. He was depressed, lonely and broken. Thanks to Fred, he would have killed himself the moment he got to the cottage. Fred reminded him of the reason to be alive. And it all lay in one word. Revenge. But for now, all Nathan could do was cry. Candace was the knot that held his life together. She was the one person who had seen him at his worst and sti
CHAPTER 242
Fred poked the campfire with a stick, the embers glowing brighter. "You see, you’re not just defending Candace’s memory—you’re avenging her. You can’t bring her back, Nathan Reed, but you can damn well make sure no one forgets what happened. You’re like them, Nate. You're in this fight not to fix what’s already broken, but to make sure the people who did this... they get what’s coming to them." Nathan wiped his nose on his sleeve, still sniffling. "But what’s the point, Fred? It won’t bring her back. I’ll still be alone." Fred nodded, his eyes fixed on the fire. "That’s the harsh truth, isn’t it? Revenge won’t fill the void she left, and it won’t make the pain go away. But it’s something, Nate. It’s a purpose. And right now, that’s what you need. You need to fight because, without it, you’ll drown in this guilt, this loss."The last speech was followed by a momentary silence. Nathan tried so very hard to fight the memories of Candace away. Maybe that would help him recover. But the
CHAPTER 243
Nathan stood up from the chair, put out the fire and grabbed some wood and dropped them in the storage. Next, he went into his room, in the old cottage, and grabbed the keys to the truck. He wore his hoodie and face mask and finally topped it up with a cap, making sure he was as anonymous as the darkness. He got into his truck and drove to the city. The truck was as old as the cottage back in the woods. But somehow, Nathan enjoyed the feel. He enjoyed the nostalgic feeling it brought. When he was still young and working some part time jobs, he got a deal from a wealthy family. He would drive their truck thrice every week to get their eggs delivered to another farm and other customers. Downton Abbey was the place where he became a pro truck driver. Although young, he handled the steering like a pro, delivering the eggs to and fro. He got so used to it that some people began to like the young lad. He was only in high school, yet, he was working harder than any youth his age. The
CHAPTER 244
Marcus and April sat beside Kamsi, offering her good company. The doctors said she was going to be fine and out of the hospital in a few days. She was a strong girl and the bullet did not cause much damage. “And no, I’m serious. Like, the series was so boring that I couldn’t finish it. Besides, I had so much work to do.” Explained Kamsi. “You definitely should try GOT. That series would be the best you’ve ever watched in your entire lifetime.” April suggested, smiling broadly. “GOT? What’s GOT?” Marcus and Kamsi asked simultaneously. April’s eyes dilated. “Oh come on. Do you guys even have a life outside work? Literally everyone knows GOT. Game Of Thrones.” “You know I um…” April’s voice softened. “When your brother was still here. I would force him to the theatre to watch Game Of Thrones with me. He hated it at first, and said it was all dragons and politics." April chuckled, a fond look crossing her face as she reminisced. "But after a few episodes, he got hooked. We bing
CHAPTER 245
Marcus sighed as soon as he and April got into the car. He had so much to do. Being a right hand man to Mr. Frost, he had more responsibility on his shoulders. “I think she’ll be fine. She’s no longer a kid.” Marcus said exhaustively. “Yeah I guess so.” April replied. There was an awkward silence for a moment. Then the two of them simultaneously spoke up together. “Okay you go first.” “No. You go first.” April insisted and chucked. “So… um. Will you be returning home? Will I be seeing you again soon?” Asked Marcus. April giggled. “Of course. I can’t just leave yet. I need to make sure Kamsi is okay before I think about what to do with my life.” She said, Marcus looked at her intently, refusing to take his eyes away from her. “Um sure. That’s right. It’s a good thing.” He leaned in closer. “Have I ever mentioned how beautiful you are?” Marcus said. April sighed in her mind. Marcus was here with his romantic words again. She was beginning to fall for it. He was a truly c
CHAPTER 246
Cheng bar was the only bar in London where elites got together for private business talks. Luxurious leather booths, soft lighting, and a low murmur of conversation created the perfect atmosphere for solitude, making it the perfect setting for Vanessa and Megan's long-awaited meeting. The entrances to the bar were so discreet that people could enter and go without being detected. Vanessa was the first to arrive, dressed in her signature tasteful yet modest attire. She made her way to the booth she had rented after taking a thorough look around the space and observing everyone with her keen eyes. Sipping from a glass of red wine, Vanessa waited for the bitch, Megan to show up her stupid face. Tonight will be bloody. Tonight, Vanessa would kill the woman who had been side-lining her husband, how dare she? But she was not a dumb woman and she knew better than to kill a person in public. The solution of arsenic and Mercury which she had ready in her purse would do the job slowly and w
CHAPTER 247
Megan took the cup, signalled to one of her guards to come over with a box that was in his hand. “So, before I take my champagne, you see, I like to do some certain tests to see if the alcohol content is to my liking." Megan smirked as she opened the sleek black box her guard handed her, revealing a small, handheld device. Vanessa's eyes narrowed as Megan placed the device near the glass, and a soft beep followed. Megan looked at Vanessa and smiled. ‘Ho.. how did she know? How the fuck did she know that I poisoned her drink? Fuck!’ Vanessa’s face turned pale. "Ah, just as I thought," Megan said, looking at Vanessa with an amused glint in her eyes. "You see, Vanessa, I know you’re angry, and I know what kind of woman you are. But I’m not stupid. Did you really think you could poison me so easily?" Vanessa’s face remained stoic, though her mind raced. That smug smile. That arrogant tone. Megan had somehow known about her plan all along. And now she was turning the game back on Van
CHAPTER 248
“And who are you, asshole? Why do you care about my wallop, huh?” Gerald asked, unaware that it was Collins speaking. He was obviously high. Nathan was confused. This was not the Gerald he knew. Gerald was a son-in-law to the Davenports just like he used to be. Gerald was the most respected person in the Davenport family because he was the head of his empire, the Jones empire. On the other hand, Gerald was the motherfucker who had made Nathan’s life a living hell. Nathan clenched his fist and all he could think about was grabbing the bottle of drink in his front and destroying Gerald’s eyes with it. The revenge could start there. The revenge could start from Gerald who was always showing off. But Nathan was interested in knowing why Gerald of all people would be drinking heavily at a cheap bar and not at the Davenport airbnb mansion with the rest of the family. “I am a worker here. You have been drinking since you came here. What’s your story? Gerald raised an eye and looked
CHAPTER 249
Vanessa walked into her apartment and headed straight to Alex’s office where he would definitely be. For the past few days, he had not slept on the bed with her. He would stride to his office to work, work and work. And eventually, he would sleep on his desk or on the couch in the living area. At first, Vanessa thought he was simply trying to meet up with the deadline of Mr. Frost, which was true to some extent. He had limited time to submit his progress on his contract for the Genesis project which was in the final stage. But Alex had been so caught up in his life with Megan. He had been spending an unhealthy amount of time texting, calling and communicating with her. He had even spent up to $5 Million on Megan. The lady had completely stolen his heart, his mind and his soul. Vanessa pushed the door open with full force. She stormed in looking like she had just returned from fighting the Devil in hell. The heat of her anger could literally cook dinner. “You! You cheater! I kn
CHAPTER 250
The clock struck 9 am and the sun was as bright as it could be. Marcus and April lay on the bed, staring at the ceiling together. They had a wonderful sex last night and April did not regret any second of it. Marcus was the best. She only wished Nathan was the one lying right next to her, his hand across her shoulders. “You were amazing!” Marcus said with a smirk. April smiled. “I might need a 3 hour rest. You almost broke my back," April laughed, teasingly pushing Marcus away with a playful grin. She stretched lazily on the bed, her body still tingling from the night's passion. Marcus chuckled and propped himself up on one elbow, gazing down at her. "Three hours, huh? I didn’t know I had that effect on you. Imagine how much of me you’d enjoy if we get married" he said with a wink. April forced a smile, trying to keep her thoughts from spiralling. She felt a knot in her chest tighten. "Well, you do," she replied softly, her voice faltering just a bit. April went silent. It
