A firm stand
The grand restaurant in the Regency Hotel was filled to the brim with people, and it made Lutenant, who had just entered inside alongside his father and his sister wonder if they received this much customers during the day.If indeed they did, then they must have surely made a name in the city. Not just a name, per se, but a status and a brand. They must have achieved that to be able to garner such an amount of customers even though it was just lunch break.“How come there are so many people in here, dad?”His father smiled, running a hand through his hair absentmindedly.“Just tell me you don't know Howard stones without saying you don't know him.”Lut shrugged. His father couldn't blame him. He was just new to wealth, and had no clue of who some of the richest men in the business world were. He was still learning, and he was thankful to have his father by his side to even show him the ropes.“Welcome to the grave restaurant of the Regency hotel. Please, your menu is on the table, pl

“How was the visit to the apartment building in the school? Did you notice anything special? Anything you think I should have an idea of, anything I should know.”Lut tried to remember some of the notes he had asked Aurora to take. And to think that he said he was certain that he wouldn't need her help. He had been lying to himself. Whenever he didn't seem to want Aurora's help, something happened, and he was searching for her like a dog searching for bone. She was so efficient and performance oriented that he found himself wondering what he would've done or achieved without her in place to help him.She was that good.He cleared his throat.“Well,my personal assistant has the notes that were taken down on the site. I have forgotten some, but I can tell you the ones I remember. The special ones, if there's anything that exists like that.”His father nodded, giving him the avenue to continue.“A little crack on the ceilings, and dirty floors. There were some cracks on the walls and
A startling discovery
The first thing that came to his mind was her safety and her whereabouts. Was she in a place that posed danger? He ran a hand through his hair, temporarily forgetting that he was in an Uber, wishing that he was wherever he was, comforting her and telling her that everything was going to be alright.“Where are you?”Before she replied, he could hear her sniffling. It was strange to him, hearing her cry.“In my car. I'm about to enter the company, but I haven't yet. Decide to take my time before doing so.”“Are you hurt?”When she replied, her voice was firm. The confidence that he had known so much had eventually returned. The Aurora he had known and the woman he had made his personal assistant was back.“No, I'm not. Not literally…”“Aurora, talk to me. Do you need help? So you want me to send somebody from the office? A guard? Let me know, come on.”He was starting to fidget. He didn't know where she was, and being about eight to ten miles away didn't help matters. It made him scare
Hierarchical chaos
Richard lit a cigarette, watching the end of the stick light up.He smiled at the shock on both men's faces.“Shocked? I'm as shocked as you are. I don't know what to do. I am as confused and as disappointed as you are.”Hal was the first to recover from the supposed shock and spoke first, staring at him. “Wasn't that supposed to be Ariel's inheritance? How does he just sell a family business without thinking? Ariel isn't working, how does he expect her to survive?”Richard shook his head angrily because he had thought about it even before Hal said it. He couldn't believe that Mr Johnson was selling the company because it was struggling. What if it was because of him? What if it was because he didn't trust him to handle his daughter's inheritance? So many thoughts had gone through his mind, and when he left the ranch house, he had been in shambles.Sitting with his friends and supposed business partners made it all go away, even though he was aware that it was temporary.“Trust me,
The aftermath
A few minutes later, she was in her car, having packed everything she needed to do her work from home. Her foot on the accelerator, she peeled the car out of the parking lot.A few metres away from the consortium, she stopped next to a traffic light as she waited for the sign to turn green. She stared at her phone for a moment, afraid to touch it, scared that the recording had disappeared from within it. Her hands clutching the wheel when the sign turned green, she admitted that she needed Lutenant James more than she felt she did. *“Director Edward? Good afternoon.”An hour later, Lut had managed to book a flight. It wasn't first class, but he was going to manage. While waiting for a class to be given to him in the waiting section of the airport, he had successfully rejected four of his sister's calls, and had ignored his father about ten times. He had taken a stand, and he knew it was for the better. They were going to have to deal with it, after all, he was a grown man who coul
Tears of trauma
Aurora shook her head in the negative convincingly. It wasn't Lut.“No, Lut didn't do this, Natalie. He won't do such a thing to me. If you can remember Rick apartments owned by the Rick brothers. I had an interview scheduled today with one of them. He was nice at first until things took a drastic turn. I cannot believe it.”Natalie's eyes widened.“A stranger? Did he touch you? Talk to me, Aurora. Did he touch you?”“No, he didn't. This is what happened.”Retrieving her phone from her bag, she played the recording she had saved after she left the Rick apartment office. It was all in there.Natalie's face contorted in a hard and angry frown as the recording played till the last part, then stopped.“Coke on, Aurora, we're going to the police this minute. Why did you even come back home? This is a police case, and you know that!”She shook her head. She was scared. She would only feel safe if Lutenant was around, and she knew that was why she hadn't gone to the police first.“Lut told m
The confrontation
“You're safe now, Aurora, you're safe. That bastard has no idea where you are, and you're going to shock him when he discovers you recorded it. You're going to spill his dirty linen in public. It's alright now, don't cry.”It took a while for her to stop crying, but he was there for everything. His anger was seeing his once confident personal assistant cry. His rage was seeing a woman that he was heavily attracted to almost being taken advantage of. The more he thought about it, about the danger of being alone in the office with him and how she had managed to outsmart him, the angrier he got.“Can you follow me to the station? I want to make sure they arrest him. I can't wait to see that bastard in handcuffs. Do you have the recording? I'd like to listen to it.”Sniffling, she gave the phone to him. When he played the recording, it pissed him off even more.Hearing the voice of Dylan made him angrier than ever.“Yeah, I can.”But at that moment, Lut had other plans. He wanted the poli

Apart from the guilty look on his face, Dylan Rick looked as if he had seen a ghost. However, his denial game was quite strong.Lut had to give that to him.“I have a wife and kids.” He muttered, his facial expression trying to hide the lies that were buried beneath those words.“A wife and kids didn't make you satisfied enough to see a young lady come here for a job offer and let her go without intending to wreck her life?”Dylan Rick swallowed hard, then spoke, the veins popping out of his neck and his head even.“I won't let you come into my office and lie against me just because I've decided to be silent about it, Mr Lutenant. I'm afraid that you have to leave. I've accommodated this enough, brother, have I not?”When Sean spoke, he agreed with his brother and Lut didn't blame him, anyone would. Most times, family came first. But he also knew that if Sean had known about his brother doing this prior and still went ahead to defend him, then he was in the wrong.“You've accommodated
The Johnson’s company
“Please, Lut. I agree that he has done this before. And we've done nothing but try to cover it up for him. We've sent him to rehabilitation centres, and most times, he comes back a changed man. I never even expected this to happen again…” Lut glared at him in anger before interrupting him. “You knew all this about him and you still went ahead to let him handle the recruitment of workers? You are probably the reason he hasn't done time yet. It was always going to happen again, man. Your brother was nothing but a ticking time bomb, waiting to explode.” Lutenant gestured to Hubert. “Let's get out of here.” As soon as the door was opened, Dylan did the most unbelievable thing. He left his chair, ran straight to the departing Lutenant, and fell on his knees, his hands clutching his trousers tightly. The tears were free flowing now, he was doing nothing to hide his shamelessness. “Please, Lutenant, don't do th
Justice in his hands
At the station, the first thing Aurora noticed was the fact that the officers were very cooperative. They collected her story, took a written statement and got the phone as evidence. “Are you coming with us to see him get arrested, ma'am? Or you'll wait at the station for us?” Before she could even have a chance to reply, Lut had done that for her. His brows furrowed, his voice firm and confident. “Yes, we're coming with you. I'll be the one to drive her, so don't you worry. Natalie, you're coming along, right?” Natalie nodded, and Aurora found it hard not to smile. Not because she felt loved by the attention, the care and the support that was being shown to her by her best friend, but because she knew that she would probably be back in the house by this time doing absolutely nothing if it wasn't for the ruckus with Dylan Rick. Although all focus was on her, Aurora still thought that it was very important her best friend had a job
