chapter 61
Kenneth stepped back while holding his bleeding arm. “Stop shooting,” he shouted. “Just stop for a second.”Malachi aimed his gun at him. “You tried to kill me. You set a trap.”“I did not want to,” Kenneth said. “I swear I did not want to.”“You lured me into that subway,” Malachi said. “You sent men after me.”“They forced me,” Kenneth said. “I did not have a choice.”“You always had a choice,” Malachi said. “You chose Vikran.”Kenneth dropped his weapon on the floor. “Listen to me,” he said. “I only did it because he killed my mother.”Malachi paused for a moment. “What do you mean?”“He sent people to my childhood home,” Kenneth said. “They dragged her out. They killed her. He told me I would be next if I refused him again.”Malachi kept his gun raised. “You expect me to believe that?”“I begged him to spare her,” Kenneth said. “Instead, he put a knife in her chest and left her in our living room. Then he looked at me and said, ‘Do what I say, or I finish your entire bloodline.’”

Malachi moved through the narrow underground path with slow steps. The concrete walls were rough and damp, but he only focused on the route before him. He carried a small pack of explosives and held a communicator in his left hand. “Ramesh, I am inside the first tunnel,” he whispered. “Confirm the route again.”Colonel Ramesh’s voice came through with a firm tone. “Move straight for twenty meters. You will see a fork. Take the right path. That leads closer to the core of Vikran’s base.”“Understood,” Malachi replied. He kept moving, studying each corner and shadow. He wanted to reach Vikran without alerting all the guards at once. He stopped at the fork and looked down both directions. “Ramesh, I see movement ahead.”“Stay low and observe,” Ramesh said.Malachi crouched and peeked around the right corner. Two armed guards walked toward each other, talking in low voices. Malachi listened closely. One of them said, “Lord Vikran said no one enters the lower chambers without his approval.

Malachi pushed the door open and stepped into the main chamber. The room was wide and lit by rows of dim lamps on the walls. Dozens of soldiers stood with their rifles raised, and in the center was Vikran on a golden chair. Vikran leaned back with a calm face, watching Malachi as if he had been waiting for him.Malachi took a slow breath and tightened his grip on his weapon.Vikran smirked. “You made it here faster than I expected.”“Move your men aside,” Malachi said. “This ends with you.”“You walk in wounded and tired,” Vikran replied. “But you still speak as if you control the room.”“I only need one target,” Malachi said. “You.”Vikran lifted his hand slightly, signaling his soldiers not to shoot yet. “I want to hear what drives a man like you. Why do you still fight?”“I fight because you destroyed everything I built,” Malachi said. “You killed good men. You wiped out cities. You forced people like Kenneth to die for you.”Vikran nodded slowly. “You kill for justice. I kill for

Malachi slowly opened his eyes as he heard distant sounds of metal being lifted. Then heavy boots moved across the ruins. His chest felt tight, and his breathing was slow. He tried to move but stopped when pain shot through his side. He lay still as dust fell around him. A faint voice echoed from above.“We found someone here. Move the beam,” a rescuer shouted.Another responded, “Careful. He might be alive.”Colonel Ramesh arrived near the collapsed section of the underground base. He looked around as workers cleared debris. Tara stood beside him with a worried expression. Katherine followed them closely, holding her arm as if she was still shaken.Ramesh pointed at the rescuers. “He is under this section. I am sure of it.”Tara stepped forward. “How deep?”“One more level,” a rescuer replied.Katherine whispered, “Please let him be alive.”Tara looked at her. “You sound scared.”“I should be,” Katherine said. “He saved this city.”Ramesh raised his voice. “Clear that stone. Move eve

Malachi opened his eyes slowly. The ceiling was white and bright. His body felt heavy, and a sharp pain spread through his ribs when he tried to move. He gripped the side of the bed and let out a slow breath.A nurse entered the room quickly.“You should not force yourself,” she said. “Your body is still healing.”“How long have I been here?” Malachi asked.“Three weeks,” she replied. “You were unconscious for most of that time. The doctors were not sure if you would wake up.”Malachi looked at the small window. Sunlight entered the room. He blinked a few times before turning to the nurse again.“Has Colonel Ramesh visited?” he asked.“He has,” she replied. “Almost every day. He said he would return later.”Malachi nodded once. He tried to sit up properly, and the pain shot across his side. He held his breath and leaned back. The nurse checked his bandages and adjusted the machines beside him.“You lost a lot of blood,” she said. “Your body needs time.”“I will recover,” Malachi said.

Malachi stepped out of the military rehabilitation center and stretched his arms slowly. His body was stronger than before. He walked toward the training field and began the routine he had created for himself. He lifted light weights, jogged a short distance, and practiced slow combat movements.A soldier passing by stopped.“Sir, should you be doing that already?” he asked.“I need to move,” Malachi said. “My body will catch up.”The soldier nodded and continued on his way.Malachi shifted his stance and exhaled. He felt someone watching him. He scanned the area, looking at the guard towers and the trees near the fence. Nothing looked out of place.Tara approached him from behind.“You are pushing yourself again,” she said.“I am just stretching,” Malachi replied.“You do not have to pretend,” she said. “You still feel pain. I can see it.”“It will pass,” Malachi said.Tara crossed her arms.“You should rest for one more week.”“I cannot,” Malachi said.Tara sighed.“You never change

Tara inhaled deeply, her eyes was fixed on the bright screen as she shifted slightly on her chair. Her fingers moved quickly as she broke through the layers of encrypted code. She leaned forward and frowned.“Colonel,” she called out. “You should see this.”Ramesh walked in, adjusting his uniform. “What did you find?”“There’s coded chatter from an underground weapons exchange. The same pattern has been showing up for the past three days,” Tara replied. She tapped the screen and zoomed in. “This name keeps repeating, Marek Dusan.”Ramesh’s face stiffened. “That name is not new.”Malachi, who was standing by the door, turned. “You know him?”Ramesh nodded slowly. “He was part of a classified field program years ago. Same as you, Malachi. Same team. Marek Dusan was declared dead during the Eastern Europe operation. The one that ended your unit.”Malachi’s eyes narrowed. “That mission was a failure. Half the men never made it back.”Ramesh exhaled. “His body was never found. But all tra

Tara sat in front of the computer. She fixed her eyes on the loading bar. The government database was taking longer than usual to respond. She sighed and looked up at Malachi, who stood behind her with his arms crossed.“I ran the query five times,” she said. “Every record tied to Marek Dusan is gone. His personnel file, mission history and field assignments were all wiped clean.”Malachi frowned. “That’s impossible. You can’t erase a soldier from the system without approval from the highest level.”“Exactly,” Tara replied. “This wasn’t done by accident. Someone wanted Marek erased permanently.”Ramesh entered the room holding a sealed envelope. “You can stop searching,” he said. “I’ve spoken to the intelligence bureau. The file you’re looking for is under a classified program. Omega Mission.”Malachi’s eyes narrowed. “Omega Mission. That name hasn’t been spoken in years.”Ramesh dropped the envelope on the table. “That operation never existed officially. The government erased it to p

Colonel Ramesh stepped out of the armored vehicle with Tara beside him. Both covered their noses as a thick gray haze floated over the ground.“Get medics in here now,” Ramesh ordered, his tone sharp. “No one enters without masks.”Tara knelt beside a fallen soldier and checked his pulse. “He’s alive, but his breathing is weak. Whatever this gas is, it’s not normal.”Ramesh looked around. “Where’s the chemical unit?”“On their way,” an officer replied. “Half the men started coughing before the explosion went off. We thought it was smoke, but then they dropped one after another.”Ramesh’s jaw tightened. “Someone wanted this place hit hard and fast.”Another vehicle pulled up behind them. Malachi stepped out, wearing a protective mask and carrying a small analysis kit. He moved straight to the ground zero point. The burned metal door had melted into the concrete, and several soldiers were lying motionless nearby.“What was stored here?” he asked.“Medical supplies and classified defense

The night was silent when Malachi and two field agents surrounded the old warehouse on the west end of Afas. The building looked abandoned, but the thermal scanner on Malachi’s wrist showed faint movement inside. He signaled the others to hold their positions.“Two guards by the entrance,” one agent whispered.“I see them,” Malachi said quietly. “No gunfire unless necessary.”He moved along the side of the building and slipped through a broken window. The air smelled of oil and dust. Crates lined the walls, and faint light came from a room in the back. He heard voices.“Shipment goes tonight,” a deep voice said. “Marek wants the trucks moving before sunrise.”Malachi moved closer, keeping low. The man speaking turned slightly, and Malachi saw his face under the flickering bulb — Korev.Malachi stepped forward and raised his gun. “Don’t move.”Korev froze, then slowly lifted his hands. “You must be the famous Malachi,” he said. “Marek said you’d come.”“Turn around,” Malachi ordered.K
