CHAPTER 101
Some minutes earlier. There was the sound of sirens blaring through the air as police cars arrived at the Stirling mansion. Since the assassination attempt had not been publicized yet there was no media crew, making everything easier for the cops who arrived five minutes after they were called by Rita. When they got to the scene they couldn't help but reveal surprised expressions. There was destruction everywhere as if a bomb had been detonated here. The smithereens which should have been the corpses of the Stirling family bodyguards were sprawled across the entire place, soaked in pools of blood. They immediately began questioning the other bodyguards who also arrived to check what had happened. Earlier they had been paralyzed by the two advanced alchemists so they could not even protect the heir to the Stirling family even if they wanted. And while the other cops were questioning the bodyguards, some of them went to investigate the scene to look for clues. The captain of this team w
CHAPTER 102
Jeffery stood far away from the commotion, watching with everything with an expressionless face. The cops were still around—focused on their investigations.Seeing them crowded in the Stirling Mansion made him seeth with disgust. He had never liked them or any law enforcement agency. He believed they were all twisted individuals who only cared about themselves. The government was already corrupted and there was no reverse to it. Degeneration had sunken greatly into its core. The only thing that could save it was having a new one enacted. The sirens were still wailing noisy, disturbing his peace. There were even vehicles belonging to the press zooming into the premises. The overzealous journalists didn't hesitate to leap out of these vehicles with enthusiasm. Their faces beamed with joy as they approached anyone they saw."Everyone of them is very pretentious," Jeffery muttered to himself. He knew very well that if the Stirling family had been another poor family out there, the police
CHAPTER 103
Jeffery waited for a long period of time, his eyes fixed on the cops and journalists. But even after two hours they didn't leave the mansion. Perhaps this was the disadvantage of being the top wealthiest family in the entire city.He soon grew tired of waiting and signalled to Kimiko that he would be leaving. His apprentice, who was also been interviewed by the journalists, quickly excused himself. If he had been someone like Rita they wouldn't have let him off easily. They would have crowded him, engulfing him in floods of cameras and microphones. But he wasn't as influential as Rita. Although he was a well known martial artist, his came was nowhere close to any member of the Stirling family. So the journalists easily let him go and redirected their focus to other bodyguards who were around. Perhaps they thought he was a bodyguard as well.He jogged towards Jeffery before stopping shortly in front of him. He then scratched his head and asked, "Where to, Boss?""I'm going to my alchem
CHAPTER 104
The Captain's cunning smile was enough to send red signals into Jeffery's mind. He didn't need any other sign to know that there was something obviously off about the man.The way Captain Daniel had spoken to him about the Prescott family—the way he had warned him. It was obviously not something an ordinary police captain would say. Perhaps he was deeply affiliated with the Prescott family. But that doesn't give him the right to make that statement to me, Jeffery thought to himself. Why would he tell me that I won't always have the protection of the Stirling family?By now Daniel has averted his gaze and was busy doing something else. It seemed as if the small altercation just now had happened within Jeffery's mind. As if it was his hallucination. But Jeffery knew what he saw. And he was not going to forget that. He was going to get the female detective to investigate this police captain. He was now on his list of potential suspects. That detective told me she's going to give me resul
CHAPTER 105
"Qi is the life force or spiritual energy that flows through all living things and the universe...""Meridians are invisible pathways in the body through which Qi flows...""The Dantian is the central energy reservoir located in the lower abdomen..."An ethereal voice filled Jeffery's ears, endowing him with more knowledge about alchemy. Several things which he didn't yet understood were instantly made clear to him.During that moment he felt that he was almost close to breakthrough. With enough training and cultivation he would be able to advance from the advanced level. He would be able to make a major breakthrough to become a master alchemist. But right now that didn't seem to matter. This was because Jeffery was no longer standing in the alchemy room. He didn't even seem to be in the physical world. He was currently floating in space—or what seemed like space. There were several resplendent stars all around him, each of them possessing a mysterious essence. It was the same essence
CHAPTER 106
It hurts so badly...My mind hurts so badly...Jeffery regained his senses and found himself still standing in the alchemy room. The Philosopher's Stone was still in his hands. Although it was no longer shining brightly, it was still brimming with the mysterious essence."What was it called again?" he asked himself as he took a laboured breath. He was still recovering from the amount of knowledge that had been implanted into his mind by his predecessor, Lukas Flamel. It was a lot and his mind was currently in a daze. It was going to take some time for him to fully recover.Weakly he placed the Philosopher's Stone back in the compartment and pushed it to its right position. Experimenting on the stone was now out of question. He wasn't strong enough to do anything at the moment. After closing the compartment in the wall he turned around and let out a deep sigh. The Philosopher's Stone was still as mysterious as ever. But at least he had gotten something from it today.Other days he woul
CHAPTER 107
Tap! Tap! Tap!Hurried footsteps sounded through the darkness, echoing loudly. They were moving too fast—way faster than an average human.Dark silhouettes could be seen running on the roofs of apartments. They were moving with so much fluidity. They almost seemed like the wind, blending with the shadows. The moon was shining very brightly, its radiance illuminating the world below. Except for the vehicles moving several feet below the apartments, there was silence. Not one person could be seen anywhere. Except of course for the silhouettes. They were six in number, all dressed in black outfits. They wore masks across their faces, katanas strapped to their backs. Their feet were cladded in boots which surprisingly turned out to be too light for them. One wouldn't be able to move so fluidly with these boots. One of these figures cladded in ninja outfits was running ahead of the group. There was a black object which he was holding. It was placed in a small leather pouch so one couldn't
CHAPTER 108
There weren't several things in this world that could threaten professional martial artists and alchemists. They were way beyond ordinary humans and could achieve things that weren't possible with science.Professional martial artists were very powerful people who could take down huge numbers of trained fighters. They were way faster, stronger and nimble than an average human. They could be referred to as peak humans who had reached their full power. But right now they were nothing. Their strength, speed and nimbleness was nothing compared to that of a master alchemist. They couldn't even withstand a fragment of his strength. But then there was nothing they could do at the moment. If they didn't fight till their last breath Zoro was going to take the Dark Stone from them. And if that happened humanity would be doomed.Something as dangerous as the stone could not be risked to fall into the hands of someone as dangerous as Zoro. It would bring about a very devastating effect which no o
CHAPTER 109
Perhaps it was the most basic instinct. Perhaps it was the desire to live. Perhaps there was still a lot of duty left to do. Perhaps it was the innate drive to survive.Mark didn't know the reason for it but he decided to run. He decided to escape from Zoro despite him killing all his comrades. He didn't want to wait and be killed by that madman.Life was too precious to be wasted. And five had been wasted already. He didn't want to be the sixth life to be wasted by Zoro. He had to escape from the master alchemist. And so he fled. His dark silhouette moved through the dark night, leaping nimbly from one roof to the other. At times he would jump down to the next apartment, running across its walls for a brief moment. Other times he would scale the pipes quickly. His movement was so quick and nimble, an average human being wouldn't be able to keep up with him at all.But he was up against a master alchemist. There was no way the man wasn't keeping up with him. Zoro was way faster than h
CHAPTER 110
The night ended faster than Jeffery had anticipated. The silvery moon and cold darkness was gone, replaced by the blazing sun and warm morning. It was another day to feel grateful. And yet Jeffery was worried—worried because he still hadn't gotten to the bottom of everything. The unknown figure who was acquiring shares in the Stirling Enterprise was still out there. And then there was the Prescott family which was hellbent on eliminating him.Right now there were so many stakes at hand. He couldn't afford to act careless. He didn't want to return to being a loser like he had being before. He was now the renowned Jeffery Flamel who possessed alchemical knowledge and abilities. Before he had been a nobody—unknown and discarded. But right now his skills had brought him shame. Even though the Flamel Pharmaceuticals had been burnt down by an unknown arsonist, the fame was still there.Jeffery couldn't allow his unknown enemies to run amok. So he had to act quickly. He couldn't wait for Det
