CHAPTER 131
Rita walked out of the meeting hall and took the elevator to the first floor. By the time she got there the cops were already making their way through the hallway. All of them were armed with revolvers and bulletproof vests. Their expressions were very serious and their senses alert. Two assassination attempts had occured within a few hours. They had to take things very serious. They didn't the press so soil their image. When they saw her they immediately stopped. The cop leading the team quickly walked up to her and asked, "Are you okay, Ma'am?""I-I'm okay," she stammered. Her act of being very frightened was excellent. The cops believed her."I'll get one of my man to escort you outside," the cop said. "How does that sound?"Rita nodded. She was then escorted by one of the cops. The rest went up the stairs to have a clean sweep of the building. They didn't take the elevator yet. When Rita got out several reporters immediately rushed towards her. They were shoving microphones up her
CHAPTER 132
Rita waited for several minutes, her heart thumping heavily. She was waiting for Jeffery to arrive with Daniel—or even without him. She had expected that by now he would have gotten to her uncle's house.Jeffery would have been back by now. All he had to do was to retrieve the company's documents. Digging out all of Daniel's secrets as well as the mysterious figure's identity wasn't also out of place. But the young man wasn't back. Neither was Daniel, her uncle. It was strange...and suspicious.Rita narrowed her eyes, trying to imagine what had happened. Perhaps it was a trap. Perhaps it was something else. Whatever it was had plunged everything into a more problematic situation. He's supposed to be here, she thought within herself. Her eyes quivered, her lips trembling. Her heart thumped more heavily within her chest. It was heavier than the blacksmith's hammer. Deliberate and strong. The reporters were still interviewing the other employees of the Stirling Enterprise. They were stil
CHAPTER 133
The reporters continued with their torrents of questions. Rita was constantly being overwhelmed by the babel of voices. She was almost losing her mind.It was so chaotic. Very chaotic. Every question felt the same to her. There was no distinction anymore. And she was collapsing under the weight of it all. Finally the cops who had gone into the building came out. They had grim expressions and were walking fast. Whatever they had discovered within the building seemed to be of the utmost importance. They approached Rita with their revolvers. Their eyes were filled with complicated emotions. Was it shock? Surprise?—or even fear?Rita could see it. And she was confused herself. What had the cops discovered?"I need you all to move back right now," a cop said. He had a messy black hair and sharp piercing brown eyes.It turned out he was the same cop who had spoken to Rita earlier. The same one who had asked another cop to escort her aside.Again, the reporters were reluctant to leave. But t
CHAPTER 134
Rita stepped on the acceleration pad hardly, her hands firmly holding the steering wheel. Wisps of air escaped from her mouth as she let out short gasps. Her heartbeat was accelerating just like the car she was driving. She was already covered in perspiration. She had to escape from that mysterious figure that had just appeared—whoever he was. To be able to kill several cops like that meant he had supernatural abilities. Just like Jeffery Flamel. And only someone with a very cold heart would be able to kill others in cold blood. She believed the man hadn't even batted an eyelid while doing so.It still baffled her how people could be so brazen. How could they could be so heartless. It was a thing of utmost perplexity. She believed she hadn't wronged any of these assassins in any way. But they were still after her life. Worse still, they were ready to eliminate anyone who stood in their way. Including the innocent cops who had just been trying to do their duty.It was very heartbreakin
CHAPTER 135
Rita drove past the servants and bodyguards. They all greeted her warmly, not noticing the danger which she was in. Even the head of security, Mark nodded at her with a smile.Rita's hope was instantly shattered. In fact there had been no hope the moment the assassin had appeared in the car. All her hopes had already been lost."Park here," the terrifying hoarse voice sounded behind her.She swallowed hard, a parch of wetness spreading within her throat. But it didn't make her throat dry. Neither did it dissipate the shivering of her body or thumping of her heart.Without turning back she stopped the car and turned off its engine. The car wasn't hers so she didn't bother to drive it to the garage. It was a car which she had taken from the Stirling Enterprise grounds. It belonged to Jane Grey, her COO.The servants and bodyguards noticed the new car. But they didn't say anything and went about their business. Perhaps Rita had bought a new car, they thought. But Mark seemed suspicious.
CHAPTER 136
Mark couldn't move when he heard the voice behind him. His heart was already palpitating as short gasps escaped from his mouth. His fingers trembled and his legs buckled under him.How did he get behind me? he thought within himself, his pupils dilating. How did he even kill Stephen to begin with?Stephen was the name of the bodyguard who had been murdered by the mysterious figure. He had seen the young man crashing into the door suddenly. He hadn't even seen the attacker yet.And then he had seen Rita Stirling being tossed into the air by an invisible force. The attacker hadn't even shown himself all this while.Even now when his voice sounded from behind Mark believed that the assassin might not be there. At least visibly.Up till now Mark had never believed in the existence of supernatural abilities. Anything supernatural was a fairytale to him. But after finding himself in this situation, he realized that he was wrong.Supernatural powers existed and this assassin was a testament.
CHAPTER 137
Rick ran towards the bungalow which stood in the outskirts of the Stirling family manor. A straight path of red bricks led to this building, sandwiched between beautiful lawns and trees. There were also gardens and artificial lakes around, making the environment a picturesque scenery. Perhaps in the entire city the Stirling family manor was the most vibrant and beautiful. No other property or estate came close. But Rick couldn't admire the scenery right now. That was because he had a task to person. And this task was to get Dan Kimiko. This man had been living with Jeffery Flamel for some time—as an apprentice. He wasn't supposed to be running here at all. But Mark had sent him on this task and he had to do it. Even though he felt the whole matter confusing he still had to do it.Dan Kimiko was a well-known material artist from Japan. In this country he was among the top ten strongest martial artists. In a fight he would obviously beat all the bodyguards here.Perhaps something had ha
CHAPTER 138
Da! Da! Da!The sound of gunshots ring out of the Stirling mansion. The bodyguards and cops wasted no time in firing at the assassin once they arrived. They didn't need to be told what had to be done. The intruder, however, had turned out to be very terrifying. The way he moved, the way he attacked each of them—it was as if he had come out of a fairytale. All they could see were blurs as he moved within the hallway, his palms and legs lashing out at them. They watched as several men were sent crashing into the wall one after the other. He was just too fast and powerful."Keep on engaging him!" Mark yelled through his walkie-talkie as he ran towards Rita who was still lying unconscious in her room. The mysterious assassin was still occupied with the bodyguards and cops. Despite possessing supernatural abilities he couldn't take all of them down at once.Mark seized the opportunity to save Rita Stirling. He had to take her far away from here. He didn't know anywhere which was safe for h
CHAPTER 139
Mark's hands were clenched around the steering wheel, his foot firmly pressed against the accelerator pad. He was driving the car out of the Stirling family Mansion.Rita Stirling was lying at the backseat. Her body was already stirring but she was yet to wake up. Perhaps in a couple of minutes she would be widely awake. The assassin must have hit her a little hard for her to pass out like that. Obviously he had controlled himself or she would have been dead. This made Mark to realize that the purpose of capturing Rita wasn't the kill her. The assassin had other motives. Perhaps he was working for someone more powerful. As the car zoomed towards the gate he saw the other cops and bodyguards running towards them. They were the ones who were guarding outside the Stirling family manor. They had heard the gunshots.Although they were running and Mark was driving at full speed, he was still a couple of meters away from them. And he doubted they would be able to do anything once they reach
CHAPTER 140
Jeffery's eyelids fluttered, his body trembling. He was still feeling very dizzy from the unknown attack, his mind dull. He was trying hard to move but it was all futile. His mind was weak and his body unresponsive. He had been attacked, that he was very aware of. He had expected Daniel to lead him to a trap. But he hadn't expected the trap to be right under his nose. He had fallen into the trap too soon. And he had been attacked without knowing who did it.Whoever had attacked him was more than just an average advanced alchemist. To be able to cause him to go unconscious in a flash like that...it was very terrifying.Whatever the alchemist had done to him, he hadn't still recovered. He was still weak from it. He couldn't make use of his mind much less his abilities. He was really helpless right now."How did you manage to lure him here?" a voice sounded. It seemed so distant—as if it was from somewhere beyond."I didn't need to," another voice answered. "He was too proud to care that
