"How dare you burn my dress?" Ellen thundered, her voice like a crack of lightning. She snatched the green dress from Mason's hand, her nails scratching against his skin.Ellen was the daughter of Mr. Russell, Mason's boss, and she had continued to torture Mason, making life miserable for him. Mason's body shook as he tried to maneuver around Walter, but Walter clutched his arm, sinking his nails into Mason's flesh like sharp talons. He spun Mason around to face Charlie and the rest of the bodyguards, who had caught up to them. Mason's ears caught the sounds of blows being thrown and groans of agony which soon turned into wails flying out of the lips of Charlie, Rufus, and their men, snapping him back to reality.“You dare lay a finger on him?” Mason heard a feminine voice say with anger laced in her tone. “Beat them all up, show them not to mess with him again.”Mason opened his eyes, weakly scanning the environment. Mason's mouth hung open as they approached the gate of the Lachlan estate, which was a majestic structure of ornate metal work that spoke volumes of how wealthy the Lachlans were. There were lion heads on each of the pillars that held the gate upright. “Is this where we will be staying?” Ana whispered into Mason's ear, eyes enlarged. “I guess so,” Mason answered, his eyes still fixed on the wrought iron before them. He made out an elegant cursive writing of the words, “Lachlan estate,” engraved on the gate. Anxiety gnawed at his insides as a series of thoughts flooded him. He was dazed, constantly rubbing his eyes to be sure he wasn't dreaming.
