Chapter 1: Hunted By The Howl
"Hey," Dan said, flashing his signature stupid grin. "Woods. Tonight. Are you in?" Lucas raised a brow, skeptical already. "Why?" Dan spread his arms like it was obvious. "We haven’t been out there in weeks. I’ve got snacks, a flashlight, zero homework, and a need for chaos. Come on. It could be fun." Dan always had new ideas. Ninety-nine percent of them were ridiculous. But they made the boring days go faster Lucas gave a short laugh. "Life’s already boring enough. Might as well add getting bitten by mosquitoes to the list." That night at 7:56 PM, Lucas sent a single text: I’m in. Dan’s reply came back in all caps: HELL YES. At 8 PM sharp, Lucas walked up to Dan's front door. Dan was already outside waiting, a worn-out backpack slung over his shoulder. It looked heavy. "You bring the entire kitchen or just half of it?" Lucas asked. Dan smirked and opened the bag. Inside were chips, two water bottles, an energy drink, a broken compass, and a stick? Lucas pointed.
Chapter 2: The Bite
"Lucas!" Dylan shouted. Before he could react, something big slammed into Lucas."What the hell is that?!" Dan yelled, backing up.The impact sent Lucas crashing to the ground, the wind knocked out of him.Lucas groaned, coughing. "I can't breathe..."He gasped for air, struggling to push himself up. But before he could react, something heavy slammed into his side, knocking him back down.. "Aaaaaah!" Lucas screamed, his body going rigid as pain exploded through him. The creature's claws raked across his chest, dragging him into the dirt. He tried to push it off, but his arms were too weak. "Please" His voice barely came out, a desperate plea. The creature snarled, leaving Lucas in a pool of his own blood and vanished into the darkness. As Lucas lay motionless, Dan and Dylan crouched in the shadows, peering out from behind a thick tree. “Do you think he’s dead?” Dan started, voice trembling with fear. “No,” Dylan replied sharply, his eyes scanning the darkness. "Not yet. B
Chapter 3: The Change Begins
"Lucas, move. It found us."Dylan’s voice cracked, breath caught in his throat as his eyes locked onto the creature down the street."What the hell is that?" Lucas whispered, his voice trembling. The thing didn’t move, but it didn’t have to. Its burning red eyes cut through the dark like twin torches, searing into Lucas’s spine, freezing him in place. The air around them grew heavy, charged, like the calm before a storm."Dylan," Lucas reached for him without looking away. "Tell me that thing is not here for me.""Come on," Dylan said grimly, his grip tightening on Lucas’s arm. "We’re not sticking around to find out."He yanked Lucas toward him, urgency in his voice."Run!"The command hit Lucas like a slap to the face, and before he could think, they were off. Their feet slapped against the pavement as they tore down the street, heartbeats pounding in sync with their frantic footfalls. The neighborhood seemed hollow, lifeless. Not a single light on. Nothing."Where are we going?" Luc
Chapter 4: The First Shift
“You can’t stop it once it begins,” Dylan said. “You’re shifting. It’s already in motion, Lucas.”Lucas stumbled back, his legs giving out beneath him. His spine bent unnaturally as he crashed to the cold floor, his body convulsing violently. He gasped, choking on his own breath as a searing pain tore through him like fire igniting from within.“No! What’s happening to me?” he rasped, his voice strained and desperate. His fingernails thickened, darkened, and sharpened into points like curved daggers. His skin rippled. Muscle spasms traveling under the surface like snakes, twisting his limbs in angles they weren’t meant to bend. Then came the snap, his jaw dislocated with a sickening crunch as his teeth lengthened into brutal fangs, jagged and wild.He screamed. But the scream wasn't human. It was deep, guttural, torn from somewhere primal. Like something had clawed its way out of his soul and taken over, replacing the boy he was with something monstrous.Dylan didn’t flinch. He crouc
Chapter 5: The Fear Within
"Found him."The words came like a knife through silence.Lucas didn’t move. His back was pressed against the wall.Dylan crouched low, hand already gripping the hunting knife at his ankle."You sure it’s him?" a voice muttered outside the cabin."You think I forgot the scent?" another replied, darker, closer."It’s him. He’s inside. I can feel it."Lucas tensed.Dylan whispered, barely audible, "Five of them. One’s lighter. Tracker.""You hear their footsteps?"Lucas nodded. Barely. His pulse roared in his ears."When they come in, don’t think, move," Dylan said. "I’ll distract them and you crawl. Go under there" Dylan said pointing towards a trapdoor.Lucas hissed, "What if they shoot?""Then pray I get to them first."Footsteps stopped just outside the door.A cold voice cut through the air."Step out now, and we end it clean. Keep hiding, and we start pulling fingers."Lucas inhaled through his teeth. "They're not bluffing."Dylan’s voice sharpened. "Neither am I."A shadow passed
Chapter 6: The Hunters Shadow
"You gonna say something, or just keep staring like I’m the one who dragged you into this?"Lucas blinked. The air felt heavier than before, like it had thickened the moment she spoke. He couldn’t decide if the tightness in his chest was fear or anger."You knew my name. You knew what I was," he said slowly. "That’s not normal."Skylar stood a few feet away, arms crossed, back pressed casually against the crumbling brick wall of the old warehouse. Her hoodie was dusty, one sleeve ripped along the seam, but her posture wasn’t careless. She stood with intent. Like someone who knew the room, the exits, the hiding spots and how to turn anything in it into a weapon. Lucas didn’t trust her. Not yet.Skylar arched a brow. "Neither is turning into a wolf and surviving your first shift without killing someone."Lucas stiffened. "So, you have been watching me."She shrugged, eyes flicking toward a shadow in the corner before returning to him. "Not just me. Others too. But I’m the one who got to
Chapter 7: Tracks in the Fog
“Keep your head down,” Skylar muttered, her voice low, eyes sweeping the tree line ahead. “They won’t stop now.”Lucas crouched behind her, heart pounding, mind racing. He bit back a reply. There wasn’t anything useful he could say anyway. After what he’d seen, after hearing his name come from the mouth of someone hunting him, he didn’t question the danger anymore. The doubt had been burned out of him. Every breath he took now was a stolen one."Why me?" he whispered, not really expecting an answer. “What do they want?” he asked again between sharp inhales.“They want control,” Skylar replied without breaking stride. “Your change got noticed. When the ripple got sent out. That caught attention. The wrong kind. You’re something they don’t understand. And that makes you a problem.”He didn’t reply. What could he say? Ever since that day, since the thing inside him woke up everything had changed. He didn’t even know what he was anymore. But apparently, someone else did. They moved again,
Chapter 8: The Map of Teeth and Claws
Lucas stirred awake to the smell of sulfur and stone. His back ached from sleeping on cold rock, and the darkness of the mine swallowed everything beyond a few feet of Dan’s flickering flashlight. The light bounced off jagged walls, casting eerie shadows that danced like phantoms.Skylar sat near the entrance, wide awake, sharpening a silver dagger with deliberate strokes. The scraping echoed faintly, a metallic whisper in the silence. She looked like she hadn’t slept at all, her eyes locked on the darkness ahead, as if daring it to move.Dan passed him a protein bar. “Breakfast of champions.”Lucas groaned as he tore open the wrapper. “Tastes like cardboard.”“You’re welcome.”Skylar didn’t turn. “Eat fast. We move in ten.”Lucas rubbed his eyes, trying to blink away the lingering exhaustion. “Where are we even going?”“To meet the contact Dylan trusted. If they’re still alive.”Dan leaned back against the cold stone. “Anyone else notice how often people we’re supposed to meet are ‘p
Chapter 9: Moonveil's Curse
"Keep moving!" Skylar shouted, ducking beneath a low-hanging branch.Lucas panted, his legs burning, boots slamming against wet earth. Behind him, the sound of pursuit never faded. Distant howls. Cracking branches. The echo of footsteps that didn’t belong to them.Dan ran beside him, keeping pace. “Remind me why we’re running toward a place called Moonveil? Sounds cursed.”“It is,” Skylar called back. “But the hunters avoid it. They think it’s haunted.”“Awesome,” Dan muttered. “That’s so comforting.”The forest thinned as they approached the ruins. What remained of Moonveil was barely more than shattered stones and crumbled archways buried in moss. A half-collapsed watchtower loomed over the clearing, and a thick fog clung to the ground like a second skin. The eerie silence that hung in the air was broken only by the soft crunch of their steps on the forest floor.Lucas slowed, his breath visible in the sudden drop of temperature. His heart thudded harder.“This place...” he whispere
Chapter 10: Blood on the Leaves
Rain began to fall. It started as a light drizzle, then picked up until the trees of Moonveil hissed and dripped, masking every footstep in a chorus of water hitting leaves. The forest around them, usually so dense and quiet, now felt different—alive in a way that made Lucas uneasy. Lucas adjusted the hood of his jacket as they left the ruins behind. His muscles ached from the fight with Carver, but something else had awakened in him. A hunger. Not for violence—but for answers. The kind of answers he couldn’t even articulate yet, but deep down, he knew they were waiting for him. The kind that had been buried in his past, hidden even from him. Skylar moved ahead, silent and watchful, her sharp eyes scanning the surroundings, always alert. Her long, dark hair was matted to her shoulders, water streaming down in thin rivulets. Lucas couldn’t help but admire her resilience, even if he didn’t fully understand her motivations. She was a mystery, wrapped in a veil of secrecy. Dan walked
