CHAPTER 21
She slammed her palm on the desk. “I never needed protection. What I need is permission to burn these bastards to the ground.” After a long silence, the mayor met her eyes. “Do what you must… but do it clean. Do it fast and come back in one piece, wouldn't want to be placed on your father's bad side, should anything happen to you.” “Thank you, Mayor Easton!!” Marina uttered and saluted. And so she set out to look for those people who wanted to soil her good name and reputation which she had maintained for years. That night, Marina suited up, not in shining armor, but in shadows and fury. She moved through the underground, hunting names whispered in alleyways, slipping into meetings of drug lords, and prying information from traitors with trembling voices. She found one of the attackers in a rundown basement, hiding with a loaded rifle and trembling fingers. “Why my name?” she hissed, holding him by the throat against the wall. His eyes were wide, terrified. “Because they fea
CHAPTER 22
Cinderfall wept beneath smoke and sirens, everything was looking chaotic. The Warrior Goddess, Marina Ward, stood atop a shattered rooftop, her lungs heaving with exhaustion and frustration. Her cape clung to her back, torn and smeared with deep black powdery substance from the smoke. Below her, the city howled in pain, there was yet another explosion, another message pinned to the chaos: “The Warrior Goddess is to blame.” Her teeth clenched. Her fists trembled out of rage. For weeks she hunted in every shadowed alley, interrogated the worst of the underworld, shattered safehouses brick by brick, but the true leader, the mastermind, eluded her; she only made more enemies wherever she went. “Who are you?” she whispered bitterly to the wind. “Show yourself, damn you!” But the silence answered only with sirens and screaming. And then one night, everything changed downtown in Cinderfall. The gang had gathered in full force, armored vehicles lined across, lights flashing as th
CHAPTER 23
That night at the mountain top, Luca Ash iiford stood silently at the edge of a cliff overlooking Cinderfall. His golden hair moved slightly in the breeze. His sword rested beside him, humming lowly with residual energy. “Someone saw you, Marina Ward but I am quite certain she has no proof that it was you, Lord Luca.” a deep, echoing voice said behind him. Luca didn’t turn, he already knew who that was, it was Shade, his new trusted ally left by the God of war, Milton Kane. “Yes,” he said simply. “She nearly caught up with you.” Shade retorted. “She’s not ready to know yet, no one is…” he replied, fingers tightening around the sword hilt. “Not until the true threat shows its face, not until I take my revenge.” “Let's go back to the Starlight Mountain villa my Lord, it's not safe out in the open this way.” Silver, who was gentler, uttered. Luca’s eyes remained fixed on the city below. His expression, unreadable. For days, Marina kept retracing her steps, returning to the c
CHAPTER 24
Instead of the comfort she wanted to give her son, she was pulled back deeper into a memory. She was young again, sitting on the patio of their first house. Jason was five, chasing butterflies. Alfred was on the phone, his voice hard and cold, even then. Business first. Always business first. “I love you,” little Jason had whispered, crawling into her lap, his face sticky with jam. “You’re my best friend, Mommy.” Even now, the memory glowed inside her like a candle in the storm. But the darkness wasn’t always kind. There were moments of pain. Of betrayal. She had heard everything during those quiet nights in the hospital. The legal meetings Alfred thought were private. His conversations with doctors about pulling the plug. One night, he whispered, “She would understand… she wouldn’t want to live like this.” You never asked me, she thought bitterly in those moments. You never even tried. But the guilt in his voice hadn’t gone unnoticed. She had listened to it crack, listen
CHAPTER 25
On a faithful morning, Amelia woke up feeling particularly uncomfortable, she doesn't know what is going on with her, the only thoughts she woke up with was of Luca Ashford. Amelia sat by the window, her teacup untouched, outside, the rain hit softly against the glass, but her mind was far from the storm. It kept replaying that moment when Luca Ashford, with fire in his eyes and fury in his fists, stood between her and danger. She could still hear the chaos from that night. "Get the hell out!" Luca had roared, his voice sounded like a thunderclap that startled even the wind. His stance was wide, grounded, like a warrior of old, protective, unyielding. The thugs had underestimated him. One charged which was a mistake. In one swift motion, Luca struck with precision, knocking the man flat. Another tried to flank him, but Luca spun, a blur of muscle and instinct, and the second attacker cried out, crashing into the wall. Amelia remembered standing frozen in the corridor, h
CHAPTER 26
Leon Thornton sat in his study thinking of how to pay his debt to Wilson Brown unbeknownst to him that the debt has been cleared by Luca Ashford. ‘What if this investment doesn't go through how do I pay this debt that is crushing me?’ He thought deeply. The latter has decided he would keep his identity a secret for now until all his enemies have been brought before him. Leon’s phone rang and he picked up it was Dorian Ashford his long term friend. “Hey old friend.” “Leon it's been a while, I waited for your call, is everything okay?” Dorian asked. “Well, a lot has happened these few weeks man and it's not good. June is against our kids getting married.” Leon Thornton uttered. “And you what's your thoughts?” Dorian asked. “Amelia and Luca are perfect for each other, trust me. And he is the one I have set my eyes on as my son-in-law.” Leon Thornton retorted. “How are the kids, are they getting along just fine?” Dorian asked. “Well, Luca left he hasn't come back, he should be
CHAPTER 27
Her eyes widened. “You don’t know what you saw.” “I saw fear,” he said, his voice low. “I saw you frozen, cornered, and alone. And I wasn’t going to let them touch you, no one would.” His words struck her like a blow, stirring something fierce inside. “You think I needed saving?” she snapped, fire rising to mask her confusion. “No,” he said calmly, stepping even closer. “I think you didn’t expect anyone to care enough to try not to talk of me who left you for years without a word.” She looked away sharply, her jaw tightening. “You were reckless and as for not communicating with me after all this time and just show up like you did nothing wrong makes me rather upset.” Luca smirked and said; “I thought you weren't going to speak to me again, especially how you reacted when I came home.” “What did you expect me to do, run into the arms of the man who abandoned me and ran off to some quarry with no letters, nothing. That's not how a friend should act.” Amelia retorted st
CHAPTER 28
Luca's phone rang, after one beep the call connected. “Hey dad.” Dorian calmly asked; "How was it? Were you able to talk?" Luca quietly, with a trace of hesitation simply said; “Well... not very much, but we did." Dorian gently but attentively, hoping to know what his son was thinking asked yet again; "So... Do you still like her?" Luca’s voice softened, touched by the memory of tonight and when they were a bit younger said; "Yes, I do. She made me miss when we were kids. When everything felt... sMimple. Before it all changed." Dorian’s voice was cool, with some sort of bitterness he took a sigh and then said; "Very well. But remember—you’re no longer a child. We have to make sure everyone who made us go through this ordeal for all these years... pays." "We will, Dad. But I want them to never see it coming. I want them to sleep peacefully... until the storm breaks over them." Dorian with a low, satisfied hum retorted; "Good to know..." he paused and then his voice softened;

His uncle Marcellus. His cousins, his grandparents, everyone of them, the entire Ashford lineage that stood on the ashes of their betrayal. He would make them fall. Back in the Quarry, Dorian had stumbled into an alien ruin, a place no one could venture into and make it out alive. But somehow he was able to go in and out without any hindrances. There he had found the one thing that they needed, the power to take back everything that was taken away from them. He had stumbled upon a rare cultivation method that could grant just one person a mysterious power. He tried to master it, but it wasn't working out for him, he could only cultivate to an extent so he decided to pass the cultivation method to his one and only son, Luca Ashford. He taught and trained him to the best of his abilities until Luca Ashford was able to train on his own. He then handed the cultivation method to him. Luca Ashford studied, practised day and night, he cultivated and grew stronger, he was a prod
CHAPTER 30
Luca lay still on the stone floor of the chamber, chest rising and falling steadily. The remnants of the construct battle still shimmered faintly around him. Dorian stood silently nearby, eyes fixed on a cracked wall at the far end of the training ground. He finally spoke. “It’s time you knew the truth about the Quarry… and what lies beneath it.” Luca blinked, propping himself on an elbow. “I thought we knew everything. You trained me in the ruins.” Dorian turned, his face grim. “Well not everything, the ruin I took you to… was a fraction of what I found. I kept the rest hidden from you, for your own safety, but now I think you are ready.” “But why? I’ve survived everything you’ve thrown at me.” Dorian hesitated. Then, with a sigh, he pulled a rusted blade from behind a crevice, it's an ancient relic, more bone than metal, etched with runes that shimmered faintly in the darkness. “This,” he said, “is from the lower vault. A place I swore never to open again.” Luca stood,
