CHAPTER 31
Back in the Quarry As they emerged into the grey dawn, silence passed between father and son for a long time. Then Dorian broke it. “You made the right choice.” Luca nodded. “But we’ve made an enemy down there.” “He was already your enemy the moment you touched that flame,” Dorian replied. “But now he knows you’re not his pawn.” Luca clenched his jaw. “Let him come, and whenever he decides to fight me one on one, I’ll be ready.” Dorian smiled and said; “You will be, come on let's go shower and get some rest.” But deep in the ruin below, the forbidden flame danced with rage. ***** And far away, in the Ashford stronghold, Marcellus, Dorian’s brother, stood alone in his chamber, he began to recall the past, how his older brother and him went to fight wars and he always surpassed him in everything. That made him jealous, what even added more jealousy was that the heiress Elsa fell for Dorian not him. So when the issue arose that he gave birth to a child out of wedlo
CHAPTER 32
PRESENT DAY Inside the hospital room, Alfred gently tucked the blanket around Eunice’s shoulders. She had drifted into a light sleep after the emotional reunion. Her breathing was steady, her hand never leaving his. Jason leaned against the window frame, arms crossed, watching his father with a strange mix of admiration and sadness. “She’s strong,” Alfred said quietly. “She always was.” Jason looked down. “We thought we lost her.” “So did I,” Alfred murmured. “So many times.” He brushed his hand across Eunice’s brow, wiping away strands of hair. “They tried to take you from me. But you came back.” As he said it, a nurse entered, hesitant. “Mr. Stewart?” Alfred turned. “Yes?” “There’s… someone asking to see you. He didn’t give a name, but he said you’d know.” Jason narrowed his eyes. “That doesn’t sound good.” Alfred stood, his voice cautious. “Where is he?” The nurse pointed to the lobby. “Black suit. No umbrella. Just standing there.” Alfred nodded. “Stay with your
CHAPTER 33
‘Why don't I pay them a visit before we strike?’ Victor thought and told his driver. “Take me to Stewart's mansion!” he ordered. “Yes sir…” The car drove off into the night. Victor wanted to go boast about just before the attack but he drove towards his detriment. The rain lashed the windows of the Stewart estate, thunder rumbling like distant war drums. Alfred Stewart stood alone in his study, the fire casting long shadows against the walls. A storm outside mirrored the one brewing within. He’d read the security report three times. The name burned like acid in his veins. Victor Raithe. The man he once considered a brother. The man who now wanted his wife dead and his legacy reduced to ash. Behind him, the door creaked open. “Alfred,” Jason said, stepping in. “He’s here.” Alfred’s spine stiffened. “Good.” “Are you sure about this?” Jason asked, voice tight with concern. “We could bring the authorities in.” Alfred turned, eyes colder than the storm. “This isn’t for th

Victor stared at her, and for the first time, the mask slipped. He looked… tired. Worn. The weight of his sins dragged down his shoulders. “You won’t survive the war you’re about to start,” he said. “We already have,” Alfred replied. “You just don’t know it yet.” Sirens began wailing in the distance. Alfred smiled grimly. “You called the authorities, didn't you know they won't be able to keep me locked up for long?” he said. “That’s where you were wrong. I called everyone. You’re finished.” Alfred Stewart retorted and uttered; “let's see how you will fight your way out of this one.” Victor lunged towards Alfred but Jason fired a shot into the wall just inches from his head. Victor froze, his eyes wide open. “Move again, and I aim lower,” Jason said. Alfred stepped forward, face inches from Victor’s. “Take a good look. This is your last time inside my house. Next time we meet, it won’t be in the study. It’ll be in the courtroom. Or a cage.” Victor sneered. “Then

Eunice’s voice sharpened. “This isn’t just about business. They tried to erase me. My son watched his mother disappear for two years. My husband lived in grief. And now they sit there pretending they’re innocent?” The jury leaned forward. “But I’m here,” she said, “and I remember more than they wanted me to.” Then came the voice that turned everything from just a testimony to something better. “I’d like to testify, Your Honor,” came Jason’s voice. All eyes turned eagerly to the young man. “Name?” the judge asked. “Jason Elias Stewart. Son of Alfred and Eunice Stewart. Age twenty-five.” Victor narrowed his eyes. The prosecutor stepped back. “Permission to recall Jason Stewart as a key witness.” “Granted,” the judge said. “Mr. Stewart, please take the stand.” Jason walked like a storm clothed in a suit. His jaw was tight, but his eyes burned with truth. He looked directly at Victor. “Tell us what you know, Mr. Stewart.” Jason didn’t hesitate. “Two weeks before the crash,
CHAPTER 36
At the Stewart estate, Jason was restless, he knew that if the syndicate were to follow this up it wouldn't be funny for him, his family and the company. The fact that he mentioned not just Victor's name but Jonas Kynes, it was definitely going to back fire directly at them. He stared out the balcony, eyes scanning the gates. Eunice sat nearby with Alfred, sipping tea in silence. “They’ll retaliate,” Jason said. “Victor was a piece, not the board.” Alfred nodded. “That’s what I fear too son, but come to think of it, I never thought you were this smart.” “You just didn't give me the chance to prove myself to you dad.” “I guess I am at fault then.” Alfred uttered. “Why are you so calm?” Jason asked. “The fact that they allowed Victor Raithe, the face of Raithe Group Holdings to fall, means there is a division inside the syndicate.” Alfred Stewart retorted. “They may be divided but they are all united against us.” Jason poured out his thoughts. Eunice placed her hand on Jas
CHAPTER 37
Luna Gray stood at the head of a long, glass table in the Gray Corporation boardroom, her gaze like steel, unflinching and cold. Her tailored black suit hugged her tall frame, and her hair, jet black and bound in a tight ribbon. Her face is well known across the industry for being as immovable as stone. Her eyes scanned the room, taking in the board members seated around her, men and women old enough to have worked alongside her father, Alfred Gray, the very man whose name now felt like a stain on the empire he once built. She slammed a file onto the table harshly making everyone flinch. "This is the third quarter report. We’ve cut losses by 17%. The offshore leak has been sealed. All subsidiaries are now back under centralized control. But let’s not pretend this is enough… we’re still dealing with legacy debts, my father left behind a mess, and I’m the one cleaning it." There was an uneasy silence. One of the older members, Edgar Hume, cleared his throat. "Miss Gray, no one
CHAPTER 38
“She could survive that if she stabilizes the board.” “Then destabilize it,” Edgar snapped. “Send the video from the old boardroom scuffle with her uncle. Edit it. Make it look like she assaulted him. Feed it to the blogs. Whisper about internal chaos, mental instability. Tie it back to her mother’s past.” Silas’s voice dropped into a murmur. “That crosses a line. Fabrication is actually a different level.” “You think I care?” Edgar barked. “If she survives this, she’ll be untouchable. I want her isolated from the board, public and media. I want her shareholders calling for her resignation by the end of the quarter. If it looks like Gray Corp is bleeding out, she’ll be forced to act out of desperation. That’s when we move.” “If she gets through this you could lose everything.” “Like I said; Do it!” He ended the call without waiting for an agreement. Then, he turned to the encrypted terminal on his desk and input a sequence. It unlocked a group of classified document
CHAPTER 39
Later that night, inside her private study overlooking the skyline, Luna unlocked her father’s encrypted files, the ones she’d kept hidden even from her allies. As the codes cleared, a flood of documents, secret transactions, and names connected to a deeper web of deception appeared. A name caught her attention. Victor Raithe. Not just a name, he was a ghost. A man believed to be prisoned and termed dead. A man once allied with Edgar Hume. “What the hell were you into, Dad?” she whispered. Ayla entered quietly. “A drone caught footage. Edgar didn’t go home. He met someone in an underground parking lot. Guess who?” Luna turned. “Victor Raithe?” Ayla nodded. “He’s not dead and not in prison anymore, he is out.” Luna stood, her pulse steady but sharp. “Then neither is the truth.” She stepped toward the balcony, the night wind tugging at her coat. “This war… it didn’t start with me. But I’ll be damned if I don’t finish it, I will do this for our family dad, I promise you.”
CHAPTER 40
The storm outside was no match for the one inside. Victor Raithe stepped forward, his shoes echoing like warning shots. The walls of the Gray Tower boardroom trembled with the thunder rolling in, but Luna Gray didn’t flinch. She stood tall, dark eyes unyielding, framed by the glow of the skyline ablaze with lightning. “The man promised me revolution,” Victor growled. “He promised Gray Corporation would rise, unshackled from its gilded cage of morality. We were going to rip the poison out at the root, Luna. Burn down the hypocrisy. Rebuild the world.” Luna’s lips curled into something between a snarl and a smirk. “No. You wanted chaos dressed as revolution and covered as a business plan. My father saw through it all, too late, maybe but he saw the real you.” Victor’s eyes narrowed. “He flinched. He ran. That’s what history remembers. He abandoned everything.” “You poisoned everything!” she snapped, stepping forward, her voice cracking like thunder. “You turned his ideals into t
