CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE
She was in the form I had first seen her in.A slender woman with cerulean blue eyes and high cheekbones. Her dirty blonde hair seemed damp. Her legs were crossed, one on top of the other. A sinister smirk cut her face as if she was aware of something everyone else wasn't. the man next to her had his hands behind his back and his mouth was tightly shut as. His eyes were so wide they seemed like they were about to pop out of his head."Okay, time for bed.""Awww, but daaad, I'm not tired yet!""Me neither!""Well too bad, you have school tomorrow and your mother and I have worked so time for bed.""Come on girls you heard your dad...hey hey! Clear the table first."The sound of clanking porcelain filled the intense silence in the living room. Several footsteps thumped up the staircase. The sound of water and someone drinking the latter was followed by a switch of the light, leaving the moonlight as the only source of light. The silver blocks of light illuminated Legendo however the Des
CHAPTER THIRTY-TWO
At weapons training, I was set to spar with Davin, the ginger-haired guy who'd caught me staring at him in the showers."Begin!" shouted Mr. HulioI summoned my chains successfully, though I'm sure Davin didn't have to close his eyes to summon his. We circled each other. I went on the offence by swiping for his legs. Davin leapt into the opposite direction. The momentum of the attack pulled me forward."Control the chains David, not vice versa," instructed Mr. Hulio.Davin just stood there, an amused smirk on his face. His posture was like that of a parent observing a child who thought they were smarter than them. I spun around and brought down my chains in a diagonal attack. When they were within a hair's length of his person, Davin leapt forward, closing the gap between us within seconds. As if paralyzed, all I did was watch him approach and shoulder me in the chest. I fell back, the curving white line on both sides of my peripheral vision. As he leisurely approached me, I rang my ch
CHAPTER THIRTY-THREE
After training, I passed by the library. Wish was talking to Matt Samos, the Blood Battalion leader's son. Whatever he was saying was inducing a shy smile on her face. I continued to the showers, half expecting that I would meet the apparition. I didn't. I dried off and went to the dorm. Utterly exhausted as usual. I thought about what the Director had told me and I didn't know how to feel about it. I wasn't sure if Legendo didn't want to harm me. Sure, she hadn't done it yet, but I also hadn't done anything to warrant it. I was sure that it would be a different story if I aided in stopping her from freeing her siblings as she's called them.Suddenly, I was dragged out of bed. I hit the cold floor with my back and the back of my head. The pain was numbing. Then, I was forced to my knees, a tight constriction around my neck. I couldn't breathe."Why don't we continue where we left off you little shit!"The voice was venomous and deep. I couldn't place it at first until someone switched
CHAPTER THIRTY-FOUR
As we walked down the passage, Juno pierced me with her gaze; the only sound was that of footsteps on the crystalline bridge. Walking in a non-consistent arch in front was Amero and the Blood Battalion. Dante Samos, Matt's dad, was a tall man with an athletic physique. He was a bangle user, and he looked like an older version of his son, and not in a bad way. He had aged well. His skin was a bit weathered but not terribly so. His thick brown, slicked-back hair and peach fuzz had a few flecks of gray. Next to him was a thin man named Scar. His name is perfect nomenclature due to the scars below his eyes. His coat collar was upturned, hiding his mouth and nose. Unlike wearing a red band around his arm like his colleagues, Scar wore it on his head like a durag. Even though the rest of his body was covered, I was sure that his entire person was riddled with scars. He was a chain user. Next was Derrick Mayfield. A muscular Black man whose physique, demeanor, high fade cut, and bushy beard r
CHAPTER THIRTY-FIVE
Like a silent horror show, Scar buckled to his knees, removed his coat and shirt, and clawed at every inch of his scar-riddled torso. Melissa stared into the distance behind her as if beckoned by a call only she had heard. Her eyes widened, and her mouth fell open."Junior...how? What are you doing here? It's not safe here; go back..."Behind, Franny was hanging from the talons of a large, slimy, feathered black flier. The wren was pecking at her hat-protected hat.Streams of blood flowed down both sides of her face. She jabbed blindly above her. After a few more tries, her staff connected with the Flier's jaundice-colored beak with a nasty crunch. It yelped, then released her. A bolt of energy tore through the thing's chest.Duke stood on the bottom row of the Green Walker's teeth. Tanaka's chains were now wound around its canines, forcing its maw open. Duke raised his great sword and plunged it into the Walker's mouth.A few feet from the leak, Mayfield was facing off against a group
CHAPTER THIRTY-SIX
Exams spanned for about two weeks. I was pretty disillusioned, but not surprisingly so, since I had been told that the end-of-semester tests were identical to those we had on Earth. We began with history and were now about to write Renchiology. None of the tests were much of a headache besides the definition of terms since I hadn't been kidnapped yet when that was taught.Renchiology was the only one with two sittings. The first paper was on theory, then the second one was a practical on dissecting, you guessed it, a spire. It was now Thursday morning, and people were returning to homes back on Earth the next day. I cursed Wish for suggesting that there was going to be some spectacular surprise for us first years. But soon enough I was going to curse her for not stressing just how crazy the surprise actually was.We were in our dorm when the prefect came with an announcement."All first years to assemble at the platform," he said, "Don't forget your uniforms."It's at that time that I
CHAPTER THIRTY-SEVEN
Davin drew back my attention by taking another violent swipe for my feet. It seemed like I was about to face the same fate as the others. But unlike the others, I was much against said fate. It's not like if I failed the exam I would get expelled or anything. Besides, when did I care about staying here anyway?Davin then broke out into a sprint. He was already too close anyway, so using my chains didn't make any difference. Instinctively, I raised my hands so that the attack wouldn't harm my face. But then, just like the last time, an otherworldly energy seized my body.Heat exploded from my heart and flooded my veins. The anxiety, fear and resignation I felt a moment ago evaporated into hubris-like confidence.I put my hands down. Everything had changed. Reality in itself was beneath me. I noticed every single thing, even the ant that was slowly crawling into the boots of the director.Davin was moving in slow motion...When he was within arm's length, I kicked him square in the chest
CHAPTER THIRTY-EIGHT
King Augaurius struggled with a mixture of anger and awe.The Chamber was not as warm as he wanted it to be. But the figure lying on the bed before him left him in speechless reverence. He placed his hand on Krymea's forearm. It was still cold. He held his hands above the General's torso and whispered heat magic to warm him up. Waves emanated from his palms and sat on the god's skin.Krymea shifted, facing the opposite direction before wincing.I am not worthy to be this close to him. Augaurius Fenn rose from the chair next to his bed. After teleporting from Kilui, the servants had dared suggest that the god be put in one of the Kings visitors chambers. Fenn sternly directed them to lay him in his very own chamber. He had tried his best to decorate the chamber as best as they could. Gold, Armite, Diamonds and Rubies adorned the fine carpet that covered the floor. Demarko pelts and Rhynd tusks adorned the walls. He'd called for as much ceremonial incense and golden wine as possible. T
CHAPTER THIRTY-NINE
Discovering that there’s an ancient organization that protects the world from Monsters is crazy. But, being the one who frees one of the most powerful monsters and helps her free her other super powerful monster friends? That’s just downright insane.I struggled to deal with everything that happened the following days. I was so weak and tired; I couldn’t even walk. My appetite was trash, and I was irritable. I slept so much, but my hours of rest were accompanied by dreams of thingssomeone else did. Sometimes, I would wake up with a nose bleed, dried blood flaking my pillow cover. But after a week or so, I started returning to myself.I’m still finding it hard to grapple with reality, though, like as a whole. I guess training with an old white man on a floating rock in an undiscovered galaxy, when the most out of this world thing you grew up knowing was Micheal Jackson’s voice, will do that to a man.But I can safely say that Legendo, even though I still thought of her as Raven, the gi
CHAPTER FOURTY
I went to my brothers room, kicking the door open like he usually did when he came into mine.“You’re so ugly it hurts.”I said as I threw myself onto his bed. He was on his laptop, drawing pen in hand, earphone in left ear.“Check this out.”I sat up to get a better look at the screen. It looked like three guys in animal skin attirerunning away from a T-Rex.I fell back onto my back.“Looks dope.”“It’s a page from the comic. Just thirty more and we good.”“You’ve been saying that for the past three years.”“Batman wasn’t drawn in a day.”“Easy to say when you’re 30 and in your mom’s house huh?” I said,“You’re a bum.”“You know who else they called a bum? Kanye West.”“I really don’t think anyone was calling Ye a bum but okay.”“I might be a bum but you’re bonkers.” I laughed,“You’re a basket case.”I rose from the bed. I took the five dollars on his desk.“Yo that’s mom’s change…”“Yeah, she sent me to buy a chicken.”“Oh, alright.”“You’re bonkers!”***It was a Friday and I on
