CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE
I was never a naughty student. So, when Daniel and Dwayne woke me up in the middle of the night to go and smoke something called ‘Dragon’s Tail’ on the roof, naturally, my first reaction was to tell them off and go back to sleep. But, I guess some aspects of being a young adult, such as peer pressure, exist even on a floating rock located in an uncharted galaxy. After being called all sorts of derogatory names (most of which were a question of my sexuality) I found myself putting on my boots and sneaking out the dorm room.Daniel was our leader, guiding us through the intermittently moon lit corridors. When we had reached the floor beneath ours, I instinctively tried to take a look at the entrance to the girl's hostel.I couldn’t see it. The sign wasn’t where it usually was. It was instead replaced by a blank wall space.Probably hidden by the thick darkness of space. We emerged onto school grounds, just outside the ma
CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR
“Are you sure this stuff is supposed to get you high?”I cleared my throat and spat the phlegm onto the rooftop. But, for some reason, I couldn’t stop looking at what I had coughed up. It was a golden ball of mucus and saliva congealing in the night air. It ended up looking like a tiny partially solid stone.“Yo...”Turning my head felt like the hardest thing I had ever done in my entire life. My ears began to buzz, and my mouth felt like it was stuffed with cotton. The three of us looked at each other. Dwayne and Daniel's eyes were bloodshot and half shut, and I assumed so were mine.“Do you guys...” began Dwayne, He inspected his hands like he had never seen them before, “Do you guys, uhmm.... feel it?”“I don't know what to do,” said Daniel, “Say, I mean, I mean know what to don't?”We looked at each other...Then burst into a hysterical laughter.Tears streamed down my face, and my lungs felt lik
CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE
I was never a sciences nor a math’s person. I think that's evident from the fact that I had chosen to study English in college. It's not like I fell victim to the popular belief that I was too slow or stupid to do those subjects. I just tried to do what felt...right, I guess. And English was that.Besides, like I said before, maybe one day I would actually get to writing a novel that would blow up overnight and become the next Carrie or Harry Potter. But then again, I wonder sometimes, would that even matter given this life I have been forced into? I guess only time will tell. This contemplation is all stemming from the fact that the day after we smoked dragon's tail on the roof, we had our first real Mechanics lecture for the term. I use the term 'real' because we were supposed to have Mechanics three times a week according to the time table, but it had now been just over a month since my enrolment and that was the first time the lecturer actually showed up.
CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX
She just standing there, frozen but alive, like the vengeful poltergeist of a girl who's murder was covered up by someone at the school. However, the sad thing is that instead of haunting her killer she was haunting me.I raised my hand."God Damit, I haven't even started explaining anything yet.""Can I please be excused?"Mr. Finn looked around and chuckled, a sound devoid of humor."What is this? Highschool? Look new kid, you don't have to ask to go and take shit here okay? Just go."I exited the class in a rush. My unexplainable need to see and talk to Raven overshadowed my humiliation. It's like I was nothing more than a paper clip and she was a giant magnet pulling me towards her.I saw her turn the right corner at end of the hallway. As I run walked to her, I noticed something.I had no idea if was by coincidence or by design, but every time Raven showed herself there was never anyone around. She slipped in
CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN
Saturdays were never that eventful. That might sound like something crazy given that just being here was a crazy event in itself. But that morning just went the way it usually does. I woke up to the chatter and sound of a mixture of first, second and fourth years. Apparently, just like in college back on earth, third years had to do industrial attachment which would be assessed at the end of the academic year. In this case however, the industry was rotating throughout the different departments within the Blessed HQ.Dwayne and Daniel had just finished setting up the laptop and the game pads when I groggily slid out of bed."Welcome, my dear fuck nuts, to the 6th annual Mortal Kombat X tournament!"Said Daniel with his frizzled hair and wrinkled pajamas.Jax, a first year who's looks, height and long hair stole all the attention from the females, raised his hand."Yes, my child?" Said Daniel"Doesn't annual mean like...on a yearly basis"
CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT
The Blessed HQ had this air that seemed too clean. It was always crisp and there was never any wind, not even a gust. Everything was always...still.But for some reason, it never seemed like a peaceful still. It seemed like everyone, even nature itself, was holding its breath in anticipation for something."Ahhh, shit..."The explicative came from the bottom of the stairs. It was an old man, one of the ancillary staff. He had his hands on his waist and he was hunched over, nearly out of breath. Before him were two boxes, one on top of the either."Hey, need some help?"I said as I approached him.The old man sized me up. His eyes were nearly as camouflage green as his overall onesie."Is this a prank? I don't like you Tik Tok brats."He winced slightly as he said that.I grabbed the box on top and immediately regretted it. It was heavy, not unbearably so, but going up the steps with it was going to be a task and a half.<
CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE
I don't know why I expected to find her there, but when I arrived at the pond, the high probability of Raven's absence was fulfilled. She was most probably hidden in her secret place from the view of the authorities and everyone else. It was a free period between history and mechanics.I couldn't wait till the end of the day to talk to her, but it seemed like I would have to try my luck then. I would also sit in the library. Hopefully, the events of our first meeting would replay. With more attention on my part, of course. this time, I would hear her out.The bell for Mechanics was going to ring soon, so I decided to return to class.I turned around. It seemed that something in the tree had subconsciously caught my attention. It was white and rectangular. An envelope, I noticed. I removed it from the two crossing branches it had been sitting on.Inside was a letter.'It is my biggest wish that you stumble upon this one day. Hopefu
CHAPTER THIRTY
I waited for lights out, each moment felt like an eternity. Just like the night before, when I was certain that everyone in the dorm was asleep, I snuck out. I jogged to the orchard, which was a few meters to the left of the teacher's quarters, and placed myself behind a group of trees. As expected, Amero was smoking his last cigarette of the day on the porch of his room. His room, fortunately, was on the ground floor of the Gothic-style building. He tossed the butt, entered his room, and soon after switched off the light. I waited another twenty minutes just in case he wasn't a quick sleeper.I crouch-walked to the foot of the building. The sliding glass door was open. I silently crossed the threshold.I was attacked by the damp, yet the warm smell of whatever it was Amero smoked. Definitely wasn’t Dragons tail. His body steadily rose and fell beneath the blanket...I scanned the messy room. Something shiny entered my peripheral vision. The
CHAPTER THIRTY ONE
The thing raised its hand in a fist and brought it down on me. I jumped to the side, barely escaping the blow. Its force was terrifying, given that a web of cracks formed on the ground beneath its fist. I rose from the ground, but before I could run, its foot was already cocked for an attack.I failed to protect myself.A force that knocked out all the air from my lungs sent me flying into the shelf behind. A few books and a box of papers fell onto my head. I summoned my chains in its direction, grateful that I hadn’t taken off my pendant. Its eyes closed at the points of impact. It grabbed the chains and wound them around its forearm and began dragging me. It grabbed me by the collar and lifted me off the ground. It crushed the chains, the air lingering with orange smoke a repulsive salty smell similar to that of spoiled eggs. Its green-yellow iris's scanned me.I prayed to God, hoping that he would forgive me for my sins and accept my soul into heaven. I
CHAPTER THIRTY TWO
"You fuckin idiot. This is bad, yeah, this is fucked up. You fucked up kid, big time."Amero was desperately dragging on his fourth cigarette as he paced up and down the Director's office. The Director was seated on his chair. I sat on one of the chairs across from him."Relax Amero, the boy didn't know.""Relax? Are you fuckin kidding me?!""Watch it, Deputy. I understand the gravity of the situation but it would be wise for you to remember who you're talking to."Amero stopped mid-stride. He pinched the space between his eyes and scrunched up his face."I'm sorry sir."The Director looked at me,"Are you okay David?"I nodded."Tell me what happened. What made you go down there and how did you find out about that place?"I told him everything. My meetings with Raven and her request. What she said the Director did to her parents. The dream with the eyes. The Director sighed."Remember
