CHAPTER 41- A Taste of her own Medicine
She was still reeling, trying to understand what she had just witnessed, when suddenly she forced a bright, eager laugh.“Oh my God… I didn’t realize it was really you, Adrian!” Her voice pitched up, sticky-sweet with fake affection. “I should’ve known! I mean—wow, look at you!”She stepped closer with forced ease, smoothing her blazer like they were old friends reuniting after years.“We were classmates, remember? Back in university? You helped me out in Business Strategy class, and we always got lunch together, right?” She laughed again. “Those were good times!” Her voice was filled with sweet affection that irritated Adrian. The guards were taken back by Victoria'd sudden change in tone towards Adrian.Didn't she ask them to break his how few minutes ago?Sylvester, who has no idea what had happened blinked, his eyes darting between the two of them. “Wait… you two were classmates?”Victoria nodded quickly, seizing the opportunity. “Yes! Very close. Adrian and I go way back. He was
CHAPTER 42- Platinum Apology
“Mr. Adrian, this way, please,” Sylvester said softly, gesturing down the hallway that gleamed under the crystal chandeliers. “Our executive showroom is fully equipped. You’ll see everything firsthand.”They entered a private suite at the end of the hall. The glass doors slid open automatically.Inside the room was like royalty, there was a grand velvet red couch.Floating holographic displays of Silver City’s most luxurious estates shimmered above the mahogany table. One by one, 3D models rotated in the air, glowing with detail: gated estates, cliffside mansions, modern fortresses with panoramic glass walls and private helipads.Adrian didn’t sit. He simply stepped forward and observed.“I need a new home, show me something good.,” he said.Sylvester nodded eagerly. “Of course.”It was a privilege for the President to get a home from Elite properties. He had just the perfect home in mind.He adjusted the tablet in his hands, and the next model projected into the air.A sleek, elegant
CHAPTER 43- VIP Access
Julia paused, she understood the sarcasm in his voice, yes he was going to attend but definitely, that was not all. “Should I have the invitation delivered to your current residence?”“No,” Adrian said, sliding the platinum keycard into his coat pocket. “Have it sent to my new home. I'll send it to address.”“Understood.”He ended the call without another word, slipping the phone back into his coat. But he hadn’t taken two steps before the device buzzed again. This time it was a a different number. It was Sophia. He had been expecting her to call.He answered immediately, the voice on the other end sounded urgent.“Adrian… we need to talk. It’s important. And it’s not something I can say over the phone.”FIFITEEN MINUTES LATERAdrian was already in the cáfe where they agreed to meet.Liora cafe was the kind of place where the air itself felt expensive. Adrian sat alone in a corner booth with a single glass of sparkling mineral water satting untouched before him.His eyes drifted acro
CHAPTER 44- A Stubborn Illness
The room beyond was unlike the rest of the café. It felt like a mini palace: velvet armchairs, crystal vases filled with blood-red roses, bookshelves lined with ancient manuscripts and modern medical journals. The air was faintly perfumed with sandalwood, some people believed it repelled bad energy. Seated calmly in the middle of it all was a man. He rose slowly. Tall. Lean. Probably mid-fifties, perhaps, though not a single gray hair could be seen in his slicked-back ash-blonde hair. His suit hugged his frame like it had been stitched onto him, he also had a sliver heirloom around his neck. His expression was neutral, but his eyes… those were something else. Piercing. Icy. As if they had seen too much to be impressed anymore. Sophia stepped forward with her usual grace. Her heels clicked lightly against the polished marble as she gestured between the two men. “Adrian,” she said, her tone shifting into something unusually formal, “meet Dr. Alaric Wexford.” She turned sl
CHAPTER 45- Unseen Toxin
Sophia didn’t stop. “But this young man did. And more than that… he saved my grandfather.” Adrian still hadn’t said a word. He simply stood like a mountain of ice, unshaken. Alaric clicked his tongue, still unconvinced. “You do realize I’m not dealing with a common cold, Miss Sinclair. I’ve had three seizures in the last week alone. Episodes that leave me unable to breathe. Sometimes it feels like I'm dying.” He tapped his chest. “And yet… not a single test shows anything. I’ve seen specialists from all over the continent. No one knows what’s wrong.” Trust me this man standing before you is capable of things you can't imagin, I've seen it with my own eyes,” Sophia said with full confidence in Adrian. Alaric looked from her… to Adrian. And for the first time, uncertainty breached the walls of his pride. What did he have to lose? He then made him give a small nod. “Fine. Let’s see what you’ve got. Examine me.” Adrian didn’t move. Adrian didn’t reach for a stethoscop
CHAPTER 46- Prophet of Doom
Still, Dr. Alaric remained unmoved. “A charlatan,” he muttered. “That’s what you are.” His eyes turned cold again, flicking from Adrian to Sophia with contempt. “I’ve spent decades surrounded by world-class physicians, neuroscientists, bioengineers. Men and women who invented medicine itself. And you expect me to believe some...small boy with a sharp tongue sees what they can’t?” Adrian said nothing. His silence only seemed to enrage Dr. Aldric even more. “You think because you are younger than me, you can fool me?” Alaric hissed. Adrian’s expression was unmoved, almost bored. Sophia stepped forward. “Dr. Wexford,” she said, “I understand your pride. But just because you don't know him doesn't mean he is incompetent. This man saved my grandfather's even when Aldric Sylvester couldn't.” Alaric turned sharply to her, the sneer still sitting proudly on his face. “And you believe that?” “You dont need to believe him, believe me." Sophia replied coldly. “I witnessed it.”
CHAPTER 47- Heed My Warning
He paused but didn’t turn around. Sophia, trying one last time, stepped forward. “Dr. Wexford… don’t be a fool,” she said, her eyes fixed on him. “Stay in Silver City. Just for a few days. What if Adrian is right?” Alaric didn’t even slow his pace. He paused only to adjust his cuffs, his back still turned to them both. “I’ll take my chances,” he muttered. Adrian’s voice was like cold metal behind him. “We’ll see,” he said softly. Then added, “Just don’t regret it later.” Adrian knew the odds. He only hoped Wexford’s vault held what he needed. But Alaric wasn’t done. He eyes narrowed as he turned to Sophia, his lips curling into a sneer. “And as for you…” Sophia’s expression didn’t flinch. “Why not worry about your own marriage instead of caressing a fraud.” Her brows lifted. “Excuse me?” Alaric’s gaze darkened. “You don't need to pretend, you know what I'm taking The Wade Clan,” he said, voice deliberately loud, “their family isn't one you want to offend.”
CHAPTER 48- Two Destinations
The heavy doors shut with a final thud that echoed through the room. Sophia remained motionless, her arms folded tightly beneath her chest, eyes still fixed on the spot where Dr. Alaric had stood But the fire in her gaze began to fade. She began to trembled slightly as she thought of what Dr. Alaric had just said. Adrian seeing the worry in her face stepped forward. Sophia did not even notice when he came closer. Adrian slowly wrapped his arms around her shoulder sincerely trying to comfort her “If they come for you...” he said, “you won’t have face them alone.” Sophia didn’t respond immediately. She looked at his arms around trailed it all the way to his face. She threw away Adrian's hands, her eyes glaring at him to back off. “You?” Her voice was sharp, laced with sarcasm. “Protect me?” Adrian didn’t blink. “If it comes to that.” She turned to him finally with her eyes narrowed. “From the Wade family?” She did not even let Adrian reply before she rol
CHAPTER 49- Dawn of A New Era
That evening, Adrian arranged for all his properties to be moved to their new house. Within the hour, he arrived at the hotel suite where Clara and her nanny were temporary staying. Evelyn was already at the lobby entrance with Clara in her hands. Clara's eyes lit up the moment she saw him. “Brother!” she squealed, her little hands waving. Adrian came down from the car and carried her in his arms into the car. They were finally heading to their new home. Clara soon fell asleep sleep almost as soon as the car began to move. Soon, the SUV was driving through Silver City’s quiet hills, away from the noise, away from the crowds, climbing into an elite neighborhood. Then, the gates appeared. Black iron with delicate gold tracing, the house was surrounded by walls of stone and trimmed vines. Adrian handed over the platinum key to the house to the driver and he came down and scanned it in the lock but the side and immediately the gates parted with a hiss. Clara began
CHAPTER 50- I'll Be There!
For a moment, he said nothing. Just stared at the name glowing on the screen. Then, without a word, he picked up.He didn’t say anything. The line crackled.“Adrian! Adrian!” Her voice, which was filled with so much amusement echoed through the phone. “You’re alive after all. I was beginning to think you’d died somewhere.”Still, he said nothing.Isabelle clicked her tongue. “I'm sure you're probably dying of hunger that you can't even speak... Well, I called to extend an invitation. Out of... courtesy.”There was a long pause.“To my wedding,” she finished sweetly. “Lucian and I are getting married tomorrow. At Saint Hall. 2 p.m. sharp.”Adrian scoffed quietly. “Why are you then inviting me?”Isabelle let out a very cruel laughter. “Well... why not?”“What makes you think I would want to watch that circus?” he retorted with his voice as cold as ice.Isabelle’s tone sharpened. “Oh Adrian, don’t be so bitter. I know you're miserable without me, but that is not an excuse.”She didn’t ev
