Orion Russell cursed inwardly as his legs struggled to move before the monstrosity looming above him, setting a dreadful shadow that consumed his full being. Tears welled up in his eyes as he stared at the 20 meter tall monster before him, the entity that would erase his existence within a few seconds. Yet, it wasn’t fear, or unwillingness he felt at that moment. It was hate. It was unbelief. It was betrayal. His ‘friends’ and lover had thrown him into the Nightmare Canyon, all for what? A treasure that would only be useful in the hands of the true geniuses of humanity. An item that would only be useful to him. That treasure had laid waste to the years of friendship and love he had built since the beginning of the Apocalypse. Years of protecting them and fighting alongside them. All reduced to dust because of one item.Orion’s hate filled eyes stared up at the monster before him and revealed a malicious smile. “I have to thank your appearance. Those bastards should still be in the ra
Ether cycle
_Planets within the Milky Way have now been enveloped within the ever expanding territory of the Ether Cycle. All planets will now become influenced by the phenomenon named Ether and will be forced to undergo the basic evolution. This evolution will also affect most species within the planets. Humans who fail to evolve will mutate into Aberrations.Humans will be given an Ether system that allow them to see their bodily statistics. One can grow stronger by killing an opponent, whether human, beast or Aberration and plundering the Ether within their body, this Ether will be distributed amongst your attributes depending on the Class you will choose. The power system of The Ether Cycle is in the stages of Stratum. From the 1st Stratum up to the 9th, featuring Lower, Middle and Late Stages in between. One’s cumulative Attribute points will determine their level in the Stratum scale. This then leads to the choice of Classes. Your Class determines the powers you shall obtain after your fi
Battle
Orion inhaled as he got into a stance. Because of his new Class, he would have to explore a new approach to his battles. And what better time than during an actual fight. He gritted his teeth as the bullet lodged into his arm was pushed out by his squirming muscles before the hole began to close up on its own at a visible pace. Which was remarkable since his Constitution attribute was definitely not that high yet. Clearly his [Transcendent Regeneration] passive skill was doing its job quite well.Unfortunately his enemies had reached him before the injury was fully healed. Still, at least it wouldn’t affect his performance mid-fight.His eyes focused on the man on the right wielding a knife coated with a purple energy and his [Void Sight] got to work, producing a holographic panel before him._Name: UnknownClass: UnknownEther Scale: Lower Stage, 1st StratumCumulative Attribute: 207Skills:Poison Infusion (Level 1)_Orion’s eyes narrowed as he read through the system prompt, real
A Helping Hand
Orion panted as he slumped onto the floor, his chest heaving as he did so. He glanced at his surrounding more than once before finally sighing and searching the bag on his back, bringing out a bottle of water and some snacks before greedily devouring them.Only after a while did he reveal a satiated expression. A curse then left his lips as he touched his tongue, the taste of the food was off. ‘Those bastards couldn’t have added in expired food, could they?’‘It doesn’t matter anyways. An Evolver barely gets sick. The next line of action would be to increase my strength, but…’ A bit of hesitation appeared on his face as he stared at the crimson colored System panel. He had never used this system before after all. And worse, the being responsible for the changes to the system couldn’t exactly be considered trust-worthy.A lot of things could go wrong should he choose to strengthen himself with the True Ether System. But in the end, Orion steeled his gaze with determination before speak
Mid Stage Advancement
Orion's hands changed into claws as he started to fight and kill the first wave of Aberrants. Evangeline's actions also mirrored Orion's as she also moved towards the left side of the Aberrants and started attacking. The werewolf already knew how draining using the [Dark Manipulation] was so he decided against using it anymore, unless he found himself stuck in a precarious position. He took out the knife he had taken away from the trio he had killed after the Apocalypse began. It wasn’t sharp enough to deal with the tough skin of the stronger Aberrants but he had a way to work around that. His legs morphed tearing away at his pants while his bones shifting multiple times to adopt a digitigrade shape, increasing his height as a by-product. A muffled grunt left his lips though, the feeling of morphing his legs was completely different from his arms which didn’t need any major modification so a burst of pain kept attacking his nerves.Orion merely gritted his teeth. He wasn’t new to the
Exhibition
Orion stood up steadily, his action inadvertently grasping the attention of most students, Evangeline and Marcus included. He took in their stares with no unease appearing on his face and walked to the forefront of the lobby - his body imperceptibly shifting with each step as he adjusted to his new strength - before he stood with his back to the reinforced door.By then, everybody's eyes were locked onto him, concern and unease seeping into their expressions. They all seemed to be thinking with worry that he would do something drastic. Evangeline and Marcus even seemed poised to move should he make a move.Orion stared at each worried face and simply raised his index finger, allowing specks of dark energy to flow out of his skin and gather together to form a small orb the size of a tennis ball. "You all should calm down, I'm not going to do anything crazy."You should all have realized how much the world has changed. You all are still alive due to me, Evangeline and Marcus securing us
Danger
Orion, Evangeline, Marcus, Emma, Drake and Alex took measured steps while they carefully observed their surroundings as they moved forward.Orion ears suddenly twitched before growing longer, resembling that of a werewolf. The sight startled his teammates, but remembering the world they lived in now, they quickly calmed themselves down and asked silent questions with their eyes.He glanced at them and pointed at his ear. “I have two skills, I can change bits of my body into that of a werewolf. And, as you’ve noticed, I can also control darkness. Right now, this change is increasing my sense of hearing.”The five glanced at him in surprise as both those skills seemed really powerful. But they didn’t pry and simply accepted his answer.Orion, on the other hand, now finally understood what the ‘minute’ he had seen in his system meant. This was because whenever he chose to use the [Werewolf Transformation], it would either transform that area completely. He was unable to transform just hi
Skilled Aberrant!
Evangeline and the rest froze in shock as their eyes darted towards Orion’s location, unsure of his status due to the cloud of dust that had kicked up after he crashed into the wall.Evangeline was the first to regain her calm – well, as calm as she could possibly get in that situation. Her body screamed danger as she landed her gaze on the monster that had attacked them. Everything in her told her to leave immediately, to run in hopes of surviving such an encounter. Yet she shoved past her fear and tried her best to calm her labored breathing as she analyzed the enemy. The monster seemed to be an Aberrant. But it was different, way too different. It stood at a tall 2 meter tall height, possessing a lean body that contained compact muscles. There were weird markings on its legs. Its eyes, like all the aberrants before it, were the same stone cold white that seemed to peer into one’s very soul. What made it different was its posture. The monster stood silently, positioned in a weird w
Burst type Aberrant
Orion noted the low – and still reducing – 27% his Ether reserves displayed to him through his system panel and clicked his tongue. ‘We have to finish this fast before I and Evangeline empty out our Ether.’He suddenly shifted to the side once more as the aberrant appeared beside him, its familiar blue markings shining brightly on its legs. Still, it seemed he had underestimated the intelligence within the aberrant because it abruptly swung its arms to the side.Orion grunted as he forced his body to bend backwards, barely dodging the sudden and unexpected attack. His body repositioned itself quickly, but he was now sporting a deep injury at the bridge of his nose. He then realized that if he were a second slower, he would have probably lost his eyes in that exchange. He had to clean the blood since it threatened to spill into his eyes and block his sight. The aberrant attempted to push its advantage but was forced to stop its charge when a gunshot rang out in the air. Its neck bent t
Promising New Recruits
Orion motioned to his group, silently telling them to keep quiet while his ears elongated. His hearing was quite good without the Werewolf Transformation, but he’d rather make sure he could properly hear everything that was happening within the cafeteria.Immediately the minute transformation, the muffled voices he heard became much clearer, resounding as though he were right there with them.“… They could be in trouble! We have to open the doors to at least lend some help!” A mature sounding voice rang out the second he could hear properly. It seemed the group within the cafeteria had heard the noise their battle had created. “Lend what?” A younger but deep male voice rang out. It sounded strangely familiar, but Orion couldn’t quite remember whose it belonged to. “We’re all sitting lambs right now and you’re thinking of help? We can’t even help ourselves right now.”Another male voice rang out. “He’s right. Even if it’s safe on the outside have you thought of how long the food store
